Small market - not touristy at all. Not much here though unless you're cooking. Had lunch at the adjacent lunch counters along with locals. Best Chile Rellenos I've had in a long time. The pozole was good but the chicken soup was amazing (had 1/2 a chicken in it). Prices were very reasonable.

We were looking for a seafood market. My wife saw Mercado Municipal discussed on a (sailboat) cruiser's blog. When we found it (lots of one-way streets), we found inside the building a collection of seafood and meat markets, vegetable and fruit markets, dry and canned food and other grocery items, souvenir shops, clothes, and some friendly senors and senoras ready to serve you some tasty cooked items. Like us, you'll likely find all you'd need for your dinner preparation at very reasonable prices helping to support the locals and avoiding the supermercados crowds.

The easiest way to get to the mercado is to turn right off northbound Hwy 1 onto eastbound Coronado (you can get a good look in Google Maps-Earth). It's the big red building on your left in the third block just after V. Ibarra. There's parking on the south, east and north sides of the building. Enjoy!

We went to kill some time and we weren't disappointed. Nice shops and super friendly people. We ate at the luncheria and it was delicious. Go there if you have the time..

Great food. Fun atmosphere. Authentic.

I like to check out local markets to see the authentic version of area foods. This place did not disappoint. Lot's oa small restaurants selling similar foods which were as authentic as authentic can be.

If your not local or have been here before, it is worth the time to search it out. You can get knick knacks and souvenirs for way cheaper than any pace along hotel row or centro. Also the shopping for produce, meats and seafood is great. Help support the community by buying local than at the big commercial stores.

We stopped by this Mercado in search for lunch and found this little gem, they not only have a Mercado with a variety of meat markets and shops, they also have a number of different kitchens that serve food, which we ate at, we also bought some groceries at one of the shops, loved this quaint little area, so much to see

If you take the trouble to find this place you will be rewarded by authentic cuisine and souvenirs exactly like those on the boulevard for 1/4 to 1/3 the cost.

I will admit if the food section was not closed for renovation it may have been better.
The market is dark and smelly, and yes we have been to many municipal markets in Mexico. There was the meat and fish stalls and vegatables but the smell paticularly near the fish would scare me off buying here.
The usual array of cheap souvenirs was displayed although not too appealing in appearance.
In general the market was small with no appeal.

Everything is fresh and cheap. Mercado is small, but worth the trouble finding. There is also a cafeteria or "lonchera" next door that serves very cheap ( and yummy) mexican food. Parking can be a hassle, so it might be better to walk from centro historico.

More of an old school market with fresh fish, vegetables and tortilla made fresh as you watched and waited. Very friendly and good prices.
