We went to Cabo over the X-mas holidays and booked two full days, the pelagic (with snorkeling - this latter was not my choice but the only way I would get the pelagic) and the Sierra la Laguna trip. Both times Maria Elena was our guide. On the way to the pelagic trip she was talking about the species we have a chance to see such as Craveri's Murrelet. I was getting quite excited! However, we didn't see one (1!) pelagic bird. After I came back and did some research of the area where we went there were no sightings of pelagic birds ever in December. Maria Elena should have known this and told me that this expensive trip (the most expensive guided day trip of anywhere I have birded) was going to be a waste of time. The lunch however was very nice. On the way back she then stopped at a place where we could see the endemic hummer and thrasher, kind of as a booby prize. The Sierra trip was somewhat better: we did see the Baird's Junco and the San Lucas Thrush. But I was paired with a guide who didn't speak English and who constantly asked for a tip, Maria Elena also asked me if I could call in the Pygmy-Owl after she expressly forbid me to bring my iPhone on which I had the calls. On the way down the hill she walked with the other guide 1/2 mile in front of my wife and I. Bird guiding was apparently only on the way up the hill ... Since Maria Elena never does eBird you cannot see the success rate of her outings. I spent several days birding the estuary in San Jose del Cabo. This can easily done on one's own, if one is somewhat experienced. Overall I believe the Birding los Cabos outfit is fine for beginning birders and for people who want to get a feel for the culture of the area. It is however very expensive.

Who knew there was such great birding in Los Cabos? Maria Elena personally picked us up and took us on an amazing birding tour of the estuary and the bay of Cabo. We easily saw 45 species in 4 hours. She is so knowledgeable about the area and history, not just the birds. We waited a little too long to book, so we were limited in our choices of birding tour, but when we go back next year, we'll definitely be booking more!!!

Excellent experience with Joanne. We did birding at estuary and desert. Saw xunthus hummingbird, cactus wren, crested Caracara, yellow throat, kingfisher and so on. She is very knowledgeable about local birds and where to spot them. Many lifers for us. Highly recommended! Thanks, Joanne!

We did both the Estuary/mini-pelagic and the Birding Desert Specialties trips, and has a great (and successful for endemics) experience with our guide, Maria Elena. She is very knowledgeable about the birds, but also shared her wealth of the culture and history of the region with us, which greatly enhanced our experience. I'd submitted a list of species we were interested in seeing and they gave us prompt, detailed information on what trips we could take to see them.

Maria Elena was a terrific guide for this four-hour tour. We spent the early morning in the San Jose Estuary with the endemic birds. Then, the tour proceeded to the marina in Cabo San Lucas for a boat trip out to the Arch to look for water birds. We are not birders, but really enjoyed the bird spotting and explanations of their habitat. The boat trip was a terrific added bonus. Maria Elena has a very powerful scope so you can see the birds that are not as clear to the naked eye. One note - Maria Elena was right on time to pick us up at the resort, even though we did not get an email or text confirmation or reminder.
