My family recently fished with Redrum Charters based in Cabo San Lucas and stayed in one of their villas in Pedregal Portofino. The pools, landscaping, security guard and beautiful villa was spectacular as was the sunrise over the town below. I highly recommend staying in this very secure and peaceful community.

Pedregal is the upscale area where many stars have homes. Sylvester Stallone, Sharon Stone, just to name a couple.

I love hiking, and now (November) through late May the weather is perfect for hiking though the Pedregal. I like to start in Downtown Cabo, hike up and back down the Pedregal to the Pacific side and walk a little on the beautiful beach. There is even a little bit of lite rock climbing/bouldering you can do, then I hike up and back down to the Marina in Downtown Cabo where I get dinner. I think anyone who likes a good hike will enjoy the Pedregal;-)

Family stay, 8 people. Nice, touristy kind of place, clean. Almost no hot water for showers. Entire group suffered from insect bites from day 1, definitely from the property. Not first class, but definitely 3+ stars. Broken furniture around the pool, grill with no charcoal. Satisfactory.

Don´t get me wrong. If you rent, or have a house here; I’m sure you enjoy and love it. But if you are a tourist searching fun or interesting day options ; my advice is not to spend time sightseeing here, as it is not really attractive to just drive around steep streets (with a view) and be asked to leave by security guards. Believe me; Cabo has much more to offer than visiting a neighborhood.

I recently visited Pedregal and rented both Casa W and Casa Theodore through CaribbeanWay. While the houses were beautiful, the service was atrocious, even a bit frightening. During our trip, we were never able to get any service from the "on-site" concierge; we were told to simply find any worker and tip him to go get us groceries. At the end of our trip we were told we had noise violations totalling $1,000 in fines, but that we could "negotiate" (i.e. bribe) if we went to the Security office (not willing to risk any trouble in Mexico, we declined). When we returned home we were told that we were also responsible for $600+ in late check out fees...we were not in anyone's way and we were never given any warning that this was the case, or we clearly would have sat on the curb waiting for our cab rather than on the couch inside. When I questioned CaribbeanWay about the $1,600 in additional fees we had received upon returning home, I was told that we needed to pay, and that the owners of the houses were holding some personal items that we had left at the house ransom until we paid. It was unfortunate given how nice the houses are, but the service was an absolute disgrace.

We rented Villa Didier for a week last July. The first few days were great. As a group of 6 30 somethings, we thought the location was perfect. We were able to walk downtown if drinking. On about the 4th night of our stay, we left for dinner and returned to find our house had been broken into. They stole 3 computers, 3 IPods, 4 cell phones and various pieces mens' clothing and shoes. To top it all off, they even stole our rental car! We contacted the police and local Pedregal security. Language was an issue, and we spent the rest of our vacation at the police station and car rental office filling out paper work. None of our personal belongings were recovered, but luckily the car was found about a week later. In the end, we incurred thousands of dollars in losses.
Don't stay in Pedregal! Every local we talked to about the situation agreed that it was probably an inside job of Pedregal staff / security. Hotels are safer!

Submitted a request through American Airlines that partnered with Booking. Com and Trip Advisor. The owner debited ( stole) my payment weeks before my stay.... then claimed that he ‘furnished’ a document that said he could...only AFTER I questioned his ignorance of stated procedure by both Booking.com and Trip Advisor.....
Then this insurance salesman threatened he’d “bar me from entering Mexico..
A laughable Threat, as I have arrived in Mexico
And will, again demand my money back...
I also cancelled my stay..... never again !!!

looking to burn off all those calories from chips and salsa and pina coladas, get up early in the morning and follow the street signs in downtown to pedregal.
the hike is an adventure itself as you are no longer in the tourist areas.
once you get to the gates of pedregal just walk on through like you own the place. There is security but if you are on foot and look presentable they wont bother you.
Once inside just pick a street and start walking up, and up and up. once you are at the top the views are breathtaking. you can see the beaches, the ocean and all of downtown cabo from up there.
the houses are nice to look at as well.
on Saturdays they have a farmers market at the entrance to to pedregal all locals and great produce and homemade treats.

Very nice, secured area with beautiful homes. Can be a bit dangerous to drive around though. The roads are very curvy and steep. My parents came to an unmarked dead end and drove right off of a drop-off. Their car was left hanging with front wheels hanging over 100 ft drop.

Did anyone else get upcharged for the oil they used in the spa? It was not made clear at ALL that when you choose the oil, it was $100.!!! They took it off the bill, but only after I by chance, checked it. Please be more upfront about that. Just give me the cheap oil please!!

That’s incredibly ridiculous! Hotels need to stop overcharging for the small things, considering I’m sure you will spend far more while at the resort when you are not being nickle and dimed.

Hi,
Heading to Cabo this weekend, I saw your review of Pedregal. We would be interested in dining there to celebrate my 50! How would you suggest going about making reservations? You mentioned the high security, so I'm sure we can't just drive there and expect to be allowed in.
Thanks.

Hi,
Have fun. Stop at the gate and the security guard will contact who you want to9 reach. They are polite but firm. Don't be alarmed. They are there to protect the residents.

Congrats! Call the restaurant and make a reservation. Let them know you are celebrating a special occasion and wish for a special placement. They may take your credit card info but you should be treated quite well - it's. celebratory type of place.
When you arrive at the security gate, you can inform them that you have reservations.

I am not too familiar with Pedregal but have read that it is where all the swanky hotels and rentals are. I've seen some amazing photos of the views and was hoping to take some myself. Is there a lookout? And can you easily access this area or do you need to be staying there?
We will be in Cabo for half the day during our cruise so just wanted to know our options.
Thanks :)

There is no look-outs per-say but there are vantage points along it's winding mountainous roads that offer great pictures of the port and ocean. Here is the issue, Pedegral is a gated community, access into the complex requires a pass showing you are authorized to be there. You would need a car to get to any view-points along the road. Walking is not an option. My guess is you could try to ask to be let in because you are interested in potentially renting a property, but as someone who has rented there a couple of times already, my selfish hope is that you would be denied (no offense), since the gated community aspect is a nice feature, abd if they do my wife's sense of security become suspect. Good Luck.
