- Rachel D2 contributionsDon’t give money. Beautiful view.Guide is a wacko. You are a captive audience for his spiritual ramblings and they are not sweet he yells at you to “wake up”. However the view is worth it. I would do it agin but I would not make a donation. Not sure if it’s public or private land. I was told it’s a dog rescue but I’m not sure about that either. I think the guide is making money boarding dogs and he is keeping people off the property that are not part of his group by having the dogs go after anyone not in the group.Visited December 2022Traveled with familyWritten December 12, 2022
- CaliTraveler23Kingston, Massachusetts443 contributionsWalk with DogsThis is about a 1/2 mile steep walk with some scaling of rocks. There were quite a few people on the day we went, between 50-75. We got a quick talk about the history and then started our hike. It was a single file line and the group stayed together the whole time. During the short hike, the guide gave information about the area as well as shared his thoughts on spirituality and living in the moment. When we reached the top we had time to explore and take pictures before walking down as a group. There are dogs off-leash on this walk that are integrating with the hikers. There is no fee but tips are encouraged. We enjoyed this experience and would recommend.Visited December 2022Traveled as a coupleWritten January 2, 2023
- sayzay7 contributionsA lovely hikeThis was so fun! We had about 70 people on our group. The guide only goes up once per day (8am right now) but that means you hike in the shade and the snakes aren't coming out onto the trail yet. The part I didn't know beforehand is that the guide lets the shelter dogs out to run and hike with you. Definitely a dream come true. A beautiful hike with pups :) As for the hike itself, it's short but a little steep so take it slow. There is no rush. The views are spectacular.Visited January 2023Traveled with friendsWritten January 6, 2023
- MelJoSkiSpring Lake, Michigan33 contributionsGreat morning hikeDefinitely do this hike if you are in good shape, not hungover and aren’t afraid of heights. We took an Uber from the RIU. It was about a 10 minute ride for about $4 USD. Get dropped off at the Navel Base and the entrance is right across the street. The guide opens the gate at 8am, gives a history talk, lets the dogs out and heads up the mountain at about 8:15. We finished in 2 hours, 15 minutes. Like the other reviews have stated, you’ll be using your hands and feet for this hike. You’ll want to bring water, camera, backpack, money to tip/donate and wear closed toe shoes. This was an absolute high point in our vacation.Visited January 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten January 9, 2023
- alpO5598AECampbell, California10 contributionsMost amazing views in all of Cabo for the adventurousGreat hike, but it has become so popular that you find yourself tripping over all the people at the top. We took the hike a year earlier and our group was about 20. This year it swelled to close to 80 people. There needs to be a way to manage the crowds or it will get out of control soon.Visited January 2023Written January 20, 2023
- John RRothschild, Wisconsin40 contributionsDog sanctuary with attitudeThis is a great hike. You can only go when the gate is open. The gate opens at approximately 8:15 am. Get there by 7:55 am. It is not open on Saturday. It doesn’t cost anything but tips are encouraged for operation of the dog sanctuary, The initial hike is on a hard packed trail. It then narrows quickly to single file walking with numerous switchbacks. You will then start to incline relatively steep rocky crevasses. It takes about a half hour from the entry gate to the top walking with numerous other hikers, some of who like to stop ahead and take photos. This provides a good opportunity for a rest and a drink of water. Once at the top, you have a view to the expansive Pacific side, as well as capes. When you’re ready to leave, you can go down the lawn or the “guide” will go first. It’s well worth doing as long as you are in shape and have good walking shoes and at least 16 ounces of water.Visited February 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten February 9, 2023
- john s1 contributionCesar Millan of Cabo!Awesome hike with a bunch of pups and a great guide. It was more extreme than I thought and a few people were freaking out a little at the top but our guide got them through it. If you aren't in pretty good shape and are afraid of heights stay at the pool.Visited February 2023Traveled soloWritten February 14, 2023
- Liz L34 contributionsIncredible views of Cabos San LucasDon’t miss this hike when visiting Los Cabos! The last part of it you’re climbing rock and coming down was tricky but manageable if you’re used to hiking. It’s closed to the public, so you need to go up as a group with Enrique. He’s a dog trainer who leads this hike 6 days a week (everyday except Saturday). As of Feb 2023 the hike starts at 8:15 AM. We got there at 7:55 and joined the line by the fence. He starts the hike with a little history then we hike up to a hill where he goes on a rant about energies of the earth and breathing. If you can sit through his propaganda, the views at the top of Mt. Solmar are incredible! Heads up, about 10 dogs hiked with our group as well. The hike is free, but we gave a tip at the end.Visited February 2023Traveled with friendsWritten February 18, 2023
- Erin RIndiana18 contributionsClimbing with Enrique and the dogsWe climbed Mt Solmar with Enrique and his dogs! It was absolutely amazing. We had no idea what we were getting ourselves into, but we were so glad we did this climb! The most amazing views from the top. Enrique is a man that runs a dog kennel right near the Hotel Solmar. He takes the public and his dogs up the mountain daily (except Saturday) at 8am. This is something difficult to describe except to say you truly follow a pack of dogs and this man up a trail (not for the faint at heart) until you reach the top! We stayed at the top for about 20-30 minutes taking in the view and then followed the dogs and Enrique back down again! It was magical! So happy we did this…Enrique was kind and interesting! He cared so much about the animals and nature! We were up and back down in about 2 hours—wear your athletic shoes! Most people tipped Enrique at the end too! Worth every penny!Visited March 2023Traveled with familyWritten March 19, 2023
- Jessica RKeller, Texas6 contributionsBeautiful view, must do!This hike was amazing! The views are incredible. We had a group of about 60 people, so the line was long, if you were towards the back, you missed most of the explanation, but close to the front was great! We went slow enough for everyone to keep up. I'm afraid of heights and there were some spots I was pretty nervous but overall it was fantastic! Also, we come down a different way than you go up, so that way is much easier to come down!Visited March 2023Traveled soloWritten March 27, 2023

Hiked Mt Solmar on July 7th with my family. As others have written just show up at the Dog Rescue at 8am for an 8:15am start. Parking isn’t close so take an Uber so you can just be dropped off. No reservations needed. No cost. We tipped $20 at the end. Enrique and his dogs guide you up Mt. Solmar. He stops twice for a rest break and getting to the top took 35 min. We were back down by 10:30 so we spent about an hour up top. He let me fly my DJI Mavic drone as well. We all loved it!!

My wife and I hiked up Mt. Solmar with Enrique's tour and had a great time! Enrique offers the guided hike free of charge at 8:30AM and 4:30PM, and we went at 4:30PM. Towards the top there are some mildly steep scrambling spots but nothing that challenging. The views up top are fantastic, and if you go at 4:30PM you can watch the sunset from the top. Just be careful with your footing and where you climb for that perfect camera shot as some spots are basically on a cliff face. We felt that Enrique was a very accomodating guide and a tip was absolutely warranted! We enjoyed it so much that we might go again for a morning hike.

My husband happened upon a sign at Enriques place that said he'd be leading a full moon sunset hike, so we went. We're in our 50s, daughters in their 20s. I am not the most physically fit person, but managed to get to the top. The views were breathtaking, and Enrique's commentary enlightening. Now, I had it in my head that since it was a sunset hike, we'd scramble up the mountain and back down before dark. Not so. Enrique had us linger until full dark and the moon was fully up and it started to feel like a hostage situation before we hiked down in the dark. I was terrified and lost my balance a lot due to the darkness. I only blame myself for doing this in the first place, yet, I'm glad I did it. If I were to do it again, I'd bring a headlamp and advise all who want to do it to do the same. At the minimum, good tennis shoes should also be worn. They saved my life! I'm glad I did it, and Enrique is very kind to offer this service. Tip him!

A challenging yet memorable hike to the top of Mt Solmar. This is a guided hike up to the top. Wear good hiking shoes, No sandels as this requires hiking up rocks all the day to the top. You come down a different trail, though it is still very rocky. The hike starts precisely at 8:30 am with Enrique as your guide entry fee is free, but please leave a tip for your guide. this is not an easy trail, make sure your thighs and calfs are in good shape. spectacular views!

This is the most spectacular ocean sunset hike in Cabo! In my YouTube video, I show just how breathtaking the views at the top are!
Enrique is the owner of the property and personally guides 2 tours a day. The meeting location is only a 10 minute drive outside of downtown Cabo San Lucas.
Meeting Times: 8:15am and 4:15pm (arrive 10 - 15 minutes early)
Duration: 2 hours
Difficulty: moderately difficult
Bring: sneakers, water, sunscreen, and your best cameras
This is a free hike. I'd highly recommend tipping Enrique $10 to $20 if you enjoyed the experience.

As of September 4, 2021, The schedule for the Mt Solmar hikes with Enrique are Sunday thru Friday only, and none on Saturdays.
Bummer as myself and several others showed for the hike this morning and saw the schedule for Sunday thru Friday only. We were so excited for the hike as we had heard it was a great hike.
Highly recommend going to the gate in advance of your planned hiking day to verify the current hiking schedule for that time of year. (September is low season)

A great hike to start your morning! Need to arrive at the dog shelter about 10 mins prior to 8:15am start.
If you’re driving...there’s a paid parking about 5 mins walking distance away.
Overall you should budget about 1-1.5 hrs for the hike up and down. Enrique will stop to catch your breath and talk about the landscape.
There’s a tip jar if you want to contribute!

Beautiful views.
Get dropped off at the dog rescue (recate de perros) at around 8 am. By 8:15ish you and 20-30 other people will be let onto the property by Enrique. You all and a dozen dogs do the hike, it's not necessarily difficult but bring close-toed shoes and some water. View is well worth it, stunning photos, probably not for those who hate heights however. We were back to the dog rescue by 10 am.

Based on previous posts we thought the start time was 0830. I dropped off my friend at 0825 and drove back to park the car. Apparently the new start time is 0825 according to the current gate sign on September 22 2020. We were going to call Enrique but in the rush I left my phone in the car, ran back to get it, returned and called. Enrique answered and was already on the hike and couldn't return to add us. He did ask if we could come back at 1815 for an evening hike (sunset was at 1915) but we had dinner reservations for 1815 and this was our last day in Cabo so we politely declined. He did recommend showing up at 0815 for the morning hike.
Rule #1. Call Enrique to reconfirm the start time and when to arrive. See his phone number on the attached photo.
Rule #2. Enrique leaves ON TIME.
Five stars to Enrique for taking our call and offering a special evening hike.
On our next trip to Cabo this hike is going to happen.

We did the 8:30 AM hike with Enrique, about 6 dogs and 25 people of varying ages and abilities. Although it's really not difficult if you have no issues, I have a bad knee and was as bit slower than the rest but I made it okay. There was an older gent who had 2 knees and at least 1 shoulder replaced and he struggled. My husband stayed with him to help when needed.
Make sure you have good shoes, water and maybe a hat. The views are amazing and Enrique is very knowledgeable on the area's history. Highly recommend. Don't forget to tip on the way out!

Thank you!

As a 78 year old male, I’m unable to put myself in your shoes!😀
However, if you are fit and healthy, you should be fine - it’s usually single file and people often stop to take a breather! Take lots of water…… the views from the top are spectacular!
Good luck!

We hiked with Enrique, and his pack, yesterday. It was awesome. He starts at 8:15 each morning (per note on gate, reach him 624.122.1316). The map in AllTrails app is accurate. Meet across from Naval Station. We parked about a block away for 40 pesos every 2 hours. Message him via FB Ascenso al Cerro del Vigia.
Enjoy! 🥾
