Ride in a small glass bottom boat, and watch the fish swim by. See sea lions jumping for fish treats and pelicans hoping the sea lions miss a fish. The tour guide takes pictures with the rock as background with every phone aboard. Interesting stories told along the way, and not a drop of water made it inside the boat.

We snorkeled here as part of a tour, but I wish that we’d had more time. The water was so blue and clear and the fish beautiful. We went in the morning which was nice since the water was calm. There is a roped off area which is nice so you don’t get out too far.

You can catch a water taxi out here for about $5. Look for one of the glass bottom ones -- there's lots of fish to see! Bring a snorkel mask with you to see the beautiful fish. There's a rock you can climb and jump off, but the climb is scary and kids would need help. My son LOVED it, but my daughter and I skipped it.

You have to get water taxi to take you over there, but you also see the Arch and Lovers Beach. It's only about $20 round trip. The snorkeling was really good as was the visibility. I saw at least a couple of dozen different kinds of fish. Happy I went! 🐟 🐠 🎣 🐡

so if you want to see this in cabo book a sunset cruise. We decided to go with Sea Esta. The food was great and the drinks were even better, we stopped to swim and then got a great surprise when a pod of whales joined us as we headed out to the rock. Worth every penny.

Great place to visit. This entire area is so beautiful to visit - both close up and from a distance. Also good to visit in morning vs sunset as the character changes.
See it also from both the Sea of Cortez and Pacific sides.

While in Cabo, someone told us the snorkeling was good at Pelican Rock, which is located just to the right of Lovers Beach and El Arco/Lands End. It seems like a really small area, with lots of boat traffic but we decided to take a chance. We took a water taxi from the Villa del Palmar. The water was a bit choppy and as we neared the drop off point - a tiny beach between really large rocks I began to worry about getting ourselves and our gear off the boat. But a young man materialized just as we pulled up and was a big help with the bouncing boat and my dubious balance and agility! He led us to a good spot to drop our stuff and promised to keep watch over it for a small tip. The snorkeling was amazing. The water is very deep right off the beach and underwater it looks like a giant round fish-bowl with thousands of fish - some swimming in great schools below us. Dozens of varieties and sizes. There were also sea lions swimming and hunting in the area which was a real thrill. Our taxi came back in a couple of hours - pre arranged when he dropped us off, and our young assistant was there to help me aboard. Overall a fantastic and highly recommended experience! And cheap too!

You won't be disappointed by any of the boat tours or beaches in this area. They do a great job giving the history of the area and pointing out things you would not normally notice … worth it.

We stayed at Villa del Arco, signed out some equipment and headed over to Pelican Rock to snorkel and jump off the rock. It was not for beginners. There is no beach to sit on or rest. There are some rocks, but its got some rough waters and sharp edges. I took my 15 year old and 18 year old. One loved it, one hated it. Two of us climbed the rock to jump off. It was a little scary for me, but a very nice man told me every step to take. Not sure I could have done it on my own. The jump was fun, knocked that off my bucket list. I did lose my "rented" mask, which cost me $60 at the resort, totally sucked. I would say the snorkeling was not for sissies. The fish were pretty, but the waters were rough. It was a fun adventure regardless.

While on a tour, this is a must see view dividing the sea of cortez and the Pacific ocean. Seeing the Arco, sea lions and water crashing against the rocks is like a scene right out of a movie.

Do you know if once we are done snorkeling at Pelican, if we would be able to get a water taxi to Medano Beach. Also, would Pelican Rock be ok for a 9 year old who has never snorkeled, but is a good swimmer. Thank you so much.

I don't snorkel so I can't help you with that....
As for a water taxi, they are plentiful & can be picked up at the beach.

I'm planning to take my 5.5 years old kid. But I'm super scared of water. How deep is the water where you snorkel ?
Written June 11, 2018
The most important point of going into the Ocean 'everywhere/anywhere' FROM A BOAT-
if you are a Non-Swimmer and afraid of the water-
DON'T DO IT!
there are plenty of safe walk-in-the Ocean places and pools if you want the cooling feeling of water, practice with snorkel gear until you become comfortable, because Snorkeling with the fish is a Terrific experience- and it does NOT need deep water-

One more question - water temp???? Is it too cold -too rough to snorkel ?
Written April 17, 2018
Water temp is beautiful - not too rough. Snorkeling here is great- very popular spot BUT ... there were a TON of jellyfish in the area. That was not awesome. May have been seasonal. May have just been that area. We did not encounter jellyfish in other snorkel areas. Chileno Beach was beautiful for snorkeling.

Hi we tried to snorkel chileno yesterday morning. It was too rough . Heard from another couple that they had tried 3x & ran into same problem. Staff told us it will be rough the next few weeks. They were just putting red flag up at 9:00 am " Is pelican rock snorkel-able this time of year . don't want to pay for an excursion & not have a good experience .

If Chilean is rough Pulmo will most certainly be. Call first we didn't and took a 2 hour drive for natta. Try Santa maria beach down the road from Chilean it is in a cove and was great when Chilean was rough. Pelican requires a water taxi. Is ok but busy and taxi will tell you if too rough.

Do any of the water taxis or boats have easy access for a older person? Any umbrellas on the beach?

Yes. There are different type of charters. Although Taxis are shared normally, there are also small pangas that can be rented for a period of time with ease of access. Make sure to choose a good and reputable company. I always go with Sushi time. They are courteous and will accomodate as much as possible to garantee you and your party a good time.

Yes it is. As anywhere, just be careful and try not to go into dark allies, but Cabo is a very safe place.

My husband and I will be staying at the Riu Sante Fe and I was wondering how far this was from Pelican Rock. Are there shuttles or some type of transportation to and from if it is not within walking distance?
Written May 21, 2016
A Tripadvisor member
It's really close, you can get there walking, and then swimming but walking on the sand under the sun it's not that confortable. You have quite a bunch of options:
You can go walking to medano beach (about 15 minutes from Riu on the beach) and there you can take a boat that can take you to pelican rock and go back for you after a couple of hours.
You can also take a bus or a taxi to the Marina of San Lucas and take another boat from the Marina that can take you to pelican rock.

How much does the hotel shuttle charge to be picked up at the airport and brought to the hotel?
Written May 17, 2016
Most hotel shuttles are free. Do not take a taxi anywhere too expensive. Take the private shuttle, you can find many at the exit of the airport. Most are white vans. I always rent a car, a little expensive, but you can go when and where you want. I scuba dive where ever I vacation. usually need to be at the dive shop early. If you are a certified diver, ask the dive shop if they provide transportation to and from your hotel. Many do. Diving in this area is awesome, water temp is great, the weather is awesome, sometimes a little humid. There is so much to do at most resorts. Take in as much as you can while there, you never know when you will return.
