Alright, you are in Cabo. What do you do? Most travellers either go to Medano beach (where all the hotels are), take a water taxi to Lovers Beach (next to the famous arch) or take a tour to Chileno Bay (for good snorkling). But I suggest, why not go to Cannery Beach or Balcony Beach and suck up a bit of mexican lifestyle. The beach is mostly used by mexican families with children and therefore completely different. No vendors trying to sell you fake jewels or woven stuff, cheap mexican food nearby and just 3min away from the Marina. And the best thing, if you don't stay in one of the resorts with its own sunshades, this beach offeres free "Palapas" and if you come before 11am, you can be sure to have one for you. If not, check the "rescue tower". The water at the beach is mostly calm (that's why all the children are here) and clear. Some spots in the water are covered by rocks which on the other hand attract fish. If you go to the end of the beach and swim about 30min into the bay, there is a perfect spot for snorkling. Not sure where to go? Just check where the locals do it. For me this beach is the best tip for non tourist tourism :D if you know what I mean...

You hear Cabo and you think "Spring Break, 1998...ouch." Well, take a different approach. Try getting away from the spring breakers and find something local. Playa Publico is the best spot.

This is the beach that the locals go to. Please visit, but visit with care and in small groups. I love this beach because we can go, sit under a palapa (already built) and enjoy some great swimming and amazing snorkeling. There is a sunken ship in this little cove that tends to attract some amazing parrot fish and puffers. I have also seen a moray here.

The beach is a task to get to even though you can see it from anywhere. There is a long road to walk down and a navy base that looks intimidating, but once you're past that, the snack stands and fresh empanadas make it all worth while.

The Cannery beaches are a series of coves - rocky and surf-washed, filled with locals and families. Great for beach walking at low tide. Check the web for tide charts and plan your hike - it's amazing that you can walk from the Naval station by Gali plaza (Solmar end of marina) all the way to Lover's Beach. now the decsion - to turn around and walk back - sometimes over rock outcrops, sometimes inwater, always aware of the beauty and the boats - or to continue around to the Pacific side? Walk through Lover's beach onto the long stretch of Divorce beach (maybe get a beer or a water from the cooler guy) toward the rocks. Now - to get over. a boulder scramble is advised over runnign around the rocks during waves.. into the pirate cove and up the rock hill, go left over more boulders - laugh at how impossible it looks and voila, you've just dropped onto Solmar beach! Quite a hike, that you'll never forget and always love... you just walked around Land's end and behind the arch. Grab a golf cart ride from the hotel lobby and go back down to the marina by walking the road/driveway. or call it a day at Lover's beach by negotiating a water taxi ride one way back to the marina... Have fun anyway you do it. its beautiful

This is a tranquil location near the marina entrance. Follow Boulevard Marina past Sandos Finisterra and park in one of the parking areas before you get to the Naval Base. At low tide it is possible to walk around some of the rock formations to more secluded areas of the beach. At high tide you can follow paths and climb over the rock. Use extreme caution. A good spot for children, swimming and relaxing. There are palapas on the first section of this beach (Playa Coral Negro) and wheelchair access at the turnaround near the marina entrance.

I have been coming to Cabo for 17 years and had no clue this place was here.

I was on a morning walk one day and walked past the navy station just to see what was down that road.

Well, I found this lovely stretch of beach.

It was crowded so obviously many knew it was here.

I found the beach quality better than Medano.

If you want to watch a wonderful sunrise this is a great stop to visit.

Very quiet - just a few locals here enjoying the afternoon. It's a great spot, but was completely shaded by about 4 pm, so if you're planning to go, try to get there earlier in the day so you have time to enjoy it. We got there late afternoon and it got chilly once the sun was gone!

We have been coming to Cabo for over 15 years on land based vacations but never knew about this great little beach area. Last fall we stopped in Cabo during our cruise and I could see this beach from our ship so my husband and I decided to take a walk and try to find it.
It is a short walk (about 5-10 min) from the tender drop off at the marina - Like other's have said, you walk past the navy base and continue down the road until you see the old cannery.
There were only a few local families enjoying the fishing and beach - the water was calm and crystal clear and would be a great spot for snorkeling. There is no shade or services or food or drinks available so plan accordingly.
If you are laid back and prefer low key during your cruise stop or even land based vacation, don't pay for over priced tours through the cruise ship, just grab your towel, sunscreen, pick up some snacks and water and the marina and head over to this amazing little piece of paradise.

Its really called Playa Empacadora. Its a nice chill beach , water is calm great for swimming and snorkeling and its a free public beach. You can rent an umbrella for $5 and just relax on the beach, its a lot less crowded than the other beaches. Just have to walk to it from the port, but not a big deal. It was Great.

On the local maps this beach is called “Playa Coral Negro”. There are no restrooms or shops, but the water is calm and clear. Go over by the rocks and there is good snorkeling. We then took a local bus (12.5 pesos per person if you have pesos or $1 USD if you don’t) to the Gigling Marlin for some table made salsa and food from a nice Mexican menu. This made for a good day in Cabo.

if you are annoyed by the people trying to sell you everything in Medano beach and is in a hotel close to the marina, where you can't swim in the ocean, this is the place to go.
water is clear, there are a few shades close to the rocks and no sellers!
most of the beachgoers are from Cabo, so depending on the day, you'll be experiencing a different type of crowd. Most families and groups of people, all friendly and enjoying their own time.
