You have to make some efforts to enter the temple (climb 110+ steps, then squeeze your body into the narrow hole, and scroll a few meters deeper into the cave). And spend some money - rent a sarong and pay the entrance fee.
The entrance area is commercialized and very little spiritual is there. The temple people are smoking, watching videos on their phones...
The atmosphere inside is better. But when you reach the end of the cave, where the Buddhist temple (altar) is located, the things are changed. The priest is attending the needs of devotees, the energy is peaceful, healing, and loving.
I am glad that we visited the Pura Goa Giri Putri temple.

Ive done too many temples in my travels and when we arrived here I looked at the steps and procrastinated as to whether go up or not.We did and then had a 30 min wait to enter the top temple.I was ready to go down when a local told us how great the temple was and that we must see it.(guilted us into waiting)There were ceremonies going on and we finally enetered to a really quite boring temple area and then told to go down this hole in the floor???????Oh my goodness.Sliding down on my bottom to get in and under the rock roof to come out into the most amazing temple cave I have ever seen.We were in awe.It made it even more spectacular because there were hundreds of people in there for the ceremony and the priest singing and doing what they do.Torches lighting the edges and this is a HUGE cave which then leads to another huge cave.I wish I had spent more time there and involved myself with the locals for their prayer but didnt want to intrude. This is a must do experience in Penida and getting out at the other end was an easy walk back to the car park.I loved it.Magical

Not this one. It is one of the many tourist temples (thankfully), but it is just a location for the faithful.
When we arrived there was a celebration going on, so we thought we would wait for the conclusion before entering, instead they were very welcoming and invited us to enter immediately, involving us in their purifications.
The peculiarity is undoubtedly the entrance to the temple, because it is a fissure dug into the mountain where you slip inside, through a passage that for a length of 3/4 meters is really small and low, but then a very large cave opens.
Inside it is quite damp and there are no big interesting statues to see, but it is undoubtedly a unique temple.

Unusual temple on east coast of Nusa Penida. Small charge to park, hire sarongs and enter temple. Guide takes you through narrow entry point into the large spacious cave system where they have various temples. Some bats flying about. You walk through the temples and exit on the opposite side of the mountain and walk back round a path to the carpark.
Takes about half an hour.

We went with a tour guide. We have to hire and dressed in sarong with a sash. Climb some steps to the entrance and paid a fee. Entered into a small opening, crawl for a few metres, (crash helmet optional…joking) then suddenly, the cave opened up, an amazing interesting place. At the time we’re there, there was a group of locals giving offerings to their Gods. All dressed in beautiful traditional clothes. You carry on walking to the end of the cave, no need to turn back, the other end is a big entrance/exit to the outside. From there you walk down some steps there are toilet available to use.
Not many tourist about as not many tourists know about place.
I think they only do ceremonies, festivals and offering to gods in this cave temple, nothing else.
You can stay as long as you want. Take about 10 minutes walk from entrance to exit/back. Obviously, you can turn back to exit from the front, going through the little opening.
An interesting place to visit and to see. I am glad that I’ve been and experienced it.

Visited this unique temple many years ago.last year i visited nusa penida in June,i had a one-day tour,my driver asked if i want to visit this temple, cuz it is my last stop, and it is on the way back to my hotel,i agreed.once i paid the donation,i blessed by the priest with holy water, then i crawled into the entrance,it is very narrow,so be careful.when i was inside the cave’s walkway,i can see some altars along the way. at the end of the walkway, there is a temple.but it was very late,so no one there.last time i can go out without back to the narrow entrance again, cuz there is another exit after the temple, but that time it was closed,so i have to go back, again, crawled out of the entrance.a nice experience.this temple is very important one in Nusa Penida. devotees from Bali or Penida will come here to have ceremony, and they will sit inside the cave, listen to the teaching by the priest,so inside the cave, there are fans and lamps.the entrance is narrow,so may not suitable for overweight person.

Not very hard to find, but is not hard to drive past the sign and miss the parking lot with the warung across the street, you'll know you passed it and need to turn around. The climb up to the entrance is pretty as you can turn and see the beach, but the hike is steep. At the top you'll be greeted by local people asking for donation (common at other temples in Bali as well) and providing water/pictures. The opening is very tight, so make sure you're okay with about a 3 foot by 2 foot opening and it stays that tight for about 20 yards into the cave. It does open up A LOT after that so brave the claustrophobia for a bit and you'll be astounded at the view once inside. Only locals are allowed at the actual temple, however you can walk around and off the walkway to see some of the cave (we thought it was respectful, however to stay on the walkway), because once you get to the main portion (where the locals climb up to pray and give offering) the walkway ends, and you leave the walkway and leave a different way you came in. You don't have to climb back out the tiny opening, you'll end up walking out a gated area, and prepare for about 20 minutes walk around the mountain and through the community back to the parking lot. Amazing experience!

We visited this on a day when we didn't have much to do as it was barely 3-4 kms away from our stay towards the eastern side. One needs to rent a sarong from the shop opposite to the entrance if not already with you. There's a fair few steps while going up as well. There's also a really narrow entrance for the first few meters but its pretty huge after that. A nice experience overall!

Such a unique place. A temple in a cave. You have to rent a sarong, cross the street, and walk up a set of stairs. There, you pay admission to enter the cave and get a cup of water.
Down into the cave entrance you go. It is a bit of a small entrance but I managed ok even with a small backpack on. Only the first section requires passing through a more narrow opening, takes only a few minutes, and then the ceiling opens up. Inside, there is some lighting so you can walk through.
You exit outside and walk the main pathway for a bit, and once you hit the road turn right and the parking entrance is on your left.

This is a beautiful temple with a massive cave that’s absolutely worth visiting but please be respectful if you do go to visit. You must wear proper Balinese temple attire to enter and you can borrow some clothes across the street if you do not have any. You have to go up a flight of steps and there is a temple where you should wait for instructions to enter the main temple. You’ll be asked for a donation, give what you want and then go through a very small opening into the main temple. Once inside you’re free to explore but be mindful people are praying.
