Last week I traveled via Baja Discovery with a group from the Natural Resources Defense Council to Laguna San Ignacio to witness the grey whale migration. All things considered, I would say that this was the best group trip experience ever. Angie Mulder, owner, and her excellent staff took care of EVERY detail. From the moment we were picked up from our San Diego hotel, we were well-taken care of. Her staff met us at the CBX terminal/Tijuana airport and accompanied us on the commercial fight to Loreto and the charter flight to the area, making sure we arrived safely via boat at whale camp. The setting is spectacular and pristine. Facilities are simple, clean, and comfortable. From knowledgeable guides to boat drivers, cooks to other support staff, everyone was friendly, kind, fun and clearly wanted us to have the best possible experience. Being so close to these magnificent creatures was incredible, and hearing them breathing in the night unforgettable. In addition to twice-daily whale watching excursions, we went kayaking, explored the nearby mangroves, and took beach walks. There was also enough free time to kick back in a camp chair on the shore to watch the whales, dolphins and seabirds living their lives. Food was very good - and they easily accommodated a vegetarian diet. Snacks, beer, wine and sort drinks were plentiful and unlimited. Tents (with cots and freshly laundered sleeping sheets) were comfortable and clean. Marine toilets and solar showers were great - clean and efficient. Baja Discovery exceeded all expectations and I highly recommend them to anyone who wants this special experience!

Lisa - wow! Thanks so much for your wonderful trip review! We certainly do strive to provide the best possible experience, and I'm so happy you had such a fantastic time with NRDC! I was sorry I didn't get the opportunity to see you all again at the end of your trip. I went to camp with the next group, and we also had a couple of calm nights and could hear the whales breathing...that's my favorite sound! All the best! Angie

This was the greatest trip!!! Well run with super fun staff. The whales had so much personality and to look them in the eye was very heart warming. Looking at their war torn bodies with barnacles and scratches reflected the thousands of miles they travel on their amazing journey. Truly a life enriching experience. Thank you Angie for a wonderful time! Steve and Barbara La Jolla

Our group included 21 US and 3 English travelers on this magnificent journey. Repeat customers were the norm, with a group of 5 or 6 making their repeat trip. One person was on her 22nd trip with Baja Discovery. Angie and her crew made the trip to and from the lagoon as easy as possible, especially the commercial leg from Tijuana to and from Loretto. This new arrangement has shortened the small plane leg by some 1-1.5 hours each way. The camp is located in an ideal setting, on an island right in the lagoon. Staff members, both in the camp and on the boats were friendly, courteous, and always ready to make us feel welcome and safe. The food was exceptional, considering all supplies had to be brought in by boat. Snacks and drinks were available at all times. The whales cooperated by showing off their dexterity in the water (spy hopping, breaching and log rolling, etc); and, many came to the boats to be "petted". Mothers and babies were especially friendly. All 24 of us got to pet a whale at least one time, and many had several opportunities to do so. Camp activities, besides whale watching, included kayaking and a boat ride around the mangroves where lots of birds were spotted. Other activities are available (check out the website), A well stocked library on the ecosystem was available in the "dining tent". Researchers and staff presented information on the current status of the gray whales and their amazing journey throughout history. Baja Discovery is a class operation that will not disappoint.

I was so fortunate to connect with Baja Discovery . This is an amazing location and exhilarating experience. All hard to find the words to describe but if you want to live with nature and listen to whales and sea lions and see dolphins and other great sea life and be in a completely natural environment, this is THE PLACE. Remote, pristine, a place where nature reigns. Night stars are stunning. We saw a Moon Dog one night. The team at Baja made it possible for us humans to fit in -- great tents, excellent food, endless support for each of us, fun, organized, activities based on personal choices (I loved the kayaking trip and the trip to an untouched beach). Facilities were very clean. Three flush toilets. Solar showers. Follow the list given regarding what to bring. Prepare, as they tell you, to be cold. This is not glam ping but it is a lifetime memory to be savored every day. Whale boat rides were organized and we were given enough space. Having a grey whale come to the boat with her baby was overwhelming for all of us....how can this magic happen? Cheers to all the team involved. So kind and helpful and each one worked so hard. Thanks for sharing this place on earth with me.

Going to San Ignacio Lagoon to touch or kiss a gray whale is the experience of a lifetime. Angie (owner) and her staff go above and beyond to help ensure that things run smoothly throughout the trip. There are so many glitches that can occur with cross-border travel, but Angie does her best to cover all of the bases. She is very organized and hands-on (in a good way). The Baja Discovery camp has the best location in the lagoon in my opinion. You can watch whales blowing and breaching from your camp chair and see the Milky Way at night. I highly recommend Baja Discovery.
