Very interesting ruins. It is possible to get very up close view. The museum has good signage in English as well as in Arabic and French. The views looking out to the Mediterranean sea are gorgeous. It is about an hours ride out of Algiers and well worth it.

On the way back from the Roman ruins at Tipasa, our guides (Rob and Hassan of Expert Algeria) suggested a stop here. It's a quite large round pyramid dating from the Phoenician royal family just before Rome colonized the area. We've seen lots of Roman ruins but never anything like this. (There are said to be a few others in Algeria.) Make sure and have a guide who can tell you what they know about this archaeological wonder including why it's wrongly called the "Christian Lady". You cannot enter the tomb but you can enjoy a view of the adjacent large fertile valley.

After visiting the Roman ruins at Tipasa, you will drive past this impressive mausoleum. It really deserves a quick stop and walk around. It dates back to the 3rd century BC when it was build to house the remains of Numidian Berber King Juba II and his wife Cleopatra Selene. We had visited a very similar one near Timgad, the Imedghassen or Medracen.
The structure is seriously bruised and battered : several Ottoman Pashas tried to have it destroyed and the French Navy used it for target practice. Today it is under threat from lack of maintenance and vandalism, risking its UNESCO protective status . . .

The Mausoleum of Mauretania is an impressive circular building that was built on a very high valley, this building give us an overview of the local amazigh (berber) civilisation and how they were building in a unique way that you can't find somwhere else in the mediterranean sea. very impressive and I highly recommand it.

This mausoleum is an amazing construction from ancient times and not only offers a very well preserved stone pyramid but also a breathtaking view into the surrounding valley and to the coast.
