Fabulous Ban Gioc Falls,
Jul 2020
There is only one word for Ban Gioc. It is fabulous, and accommodation in nearby Cao Bang is both excellent and affordable. I went there with Vietnamese friends in the month of July, and hope to go again.

Go now before the tourists return if you want people free photographs. Lunchtime is best when everyone is busy eating

Absolutely Spectacular Scenery

Located literally on the border with China, Ban Gioc falls is one of Vietnam's highlight attractions. Even one of the Vietnamese border guards joked with us that the Chinese side always has far more tourists than does the Vietnamese. The Vietnamese side is not all that well-developed but does have a lot of souvenir shops. This makes a lot of sense considering the fact that most tourist at least on the Vietnamese side come in tour groups in buses and do not have to rely on local knowledge or services. But, it's very inexpensive to get in. We did not do the little boat ride which is reminiscent of a spray-less "Maid of the Mist" for anyone who has been to Niagara Falls. The boats are small pontoon boats but the people are thrilled to get their pictures up close to the falls. I just took my pictures from the beach and was quite happy. There is no swimming allowed in case anyone had thought about doing that!

We came here during the summer and it was not so crowded. The falls were amazing. From Vietnam side we could have a great view

Lovely Community

Our time at the falls was fun and relaxing. There were only two other foreigner tourists and a few Vietnamese families. One of the families was very excited to see us and took a million pictures with us by the left side of the falls. A younger man in the family was an English teacher, so he translated what everyone was saying.

Ban Gioc Waterfalls
Jan 2020
The waterfall is indeed a beautiful sight to see and its the 4th largest waterfall between 2 borders. A good time to visit the waterfalls at its full glory would be in the morning at around 10am to noon as the gates of the dam open in the morning and closes after midday according to my guide..
There is a water raft service that brings you up close to the waterfalls and they charge VND25k per pax or VND200k if less than 4 pax
A small stream separates Vietnam and China with both side sharing 1/2 the waterfalls each.

The 2-3 hour ride up and back from Cao Bang was lovely with great scenery. The falls themselves though aren’t anything special, and you aren’t allowed to go swimming. Not that you would want to with literally thousands of gawping Chinese touristy relentlessly being towed back and for up the river taking selfies and making noise. Not peaceful at all. Go for the ride but you probably won’t want to stay long there.

Beautiful waterfalls on the border with China

We were lucky to go here as part of a small organised tour and did not encounter too many other tourists. We took a boat up to the falls and close to the border, but that isn't really necessary. A lovely location and worth the long journey.

One of the most beautiful waterfalls in Vietnam. This is a must do and great for the entire family. One river spreading itself over a wide and terraced grouping of rock and limestone. Absolutely amazing and a must see and experience. The best picture opportunities of a life time.

It is beautiful... no doubt, just too many tourist busses. We bicycled up from Cao Bang and the ride up was AWESOME... so definately go but just know what to expect.
