Insightful, Thoughtful and unbelievably wondrous. Albert Coffee brings this place to life, bringing together his knowledge as an archaeologist & someone who has lived &breathed this project. Not to be missed and I am sure I would go back again & revisit this excursion!

Albert is very personable and sooooo knowledgeable about the site, the history and culture in general. It is definitely worth taking this tour - you get an insight you wouldn’t be able to get by yourself or from any other guide.

We also had the pre-Hispanic lunch option afterwards that was delicious and learnt a lot about the astronomy as well from Rosanna.

A must do in San Miguel de Allende

Mr. Coffee is an outstanding guide with firsthand knowledge of the excavation of this site and this tour was one of the best archeological tours I’ve taken. He crams in a lot of information on this tour and his talks are riveting. He has an exceptional command of the history and archeology of the area. Really whet my appetite to read more about the history and archeology of meso-America, and he graciously provided a reading list by email after the tour.

Albert Coffee Archaeotours is definitely the way to go. We gained and learned so much knowledge we otherwise wouldn’t have known if we just went ourselves. Who better to give a tour than someone who was actually a part of the excavation back in 2004 and is an archeologist. Albert is very friendly, knowledgeable and detailed when it comes to giving the tour. We very much enjoyed his tour and 100% recommend it to anyone and everyone! Thank you so much Al!

Archaeologist Albert Coffee is passionate, articulate & clearly an expert on this site. He explained how historians thought “mezo-American” pyramids only existed further south in Mexico & Central America until this great pyramid (& now others) was found on private land in 1995. Private tours have been allowed since 2011.
Be prepared for lots of walking up & down hill in this lovely (usually arid) natural canyon area. Definitely enjoyed the experience& worthwhile, educational tour!

Albert had completed his graduate studies in anthropology when he first came to San Miguel de Allende in 2004 and has lived here ever since. He volunteered with the Mexican government's archeologists during the excavation. He keeps up with the latest theories and science about the original inhabitants of this fascinating area. His presentation is funny and knowledgeable. A must-see in San Miguel if you have any interest in who lived here in the centuries before the Conquest.

Albert gave us a great tour. It was more complete than anything I expected. With him being one of the original excavators, he gave us priceless insight. I highly recommend

If you have not been to any of the other excavations of the indigenous peoples near Mexico City or in the Yucatán, this is worth doing. If you have visited other sites you will be disappointed.
Albert Coffe, the archeologist/guide is very knowledgeable, but not that engaging.
Definitely do not sign up for the post trip lunch. Just not very good or worth it.

We’re glad you enjoyed the archaeological site. We apologize you did not have an excellent experience on our tour, however. We have taken your suggestion into consideration and have made both the tour and the optional activity afterwards more engaging. While there are many archaeological sites around Mexico which are much larger, we feel that the history of Cañada de la Virgen deserves to be told. We do our best to make the history come alive for our guests - it’s constantly updated with new information. We invite you to come out again with us, at no charge, to see the difference. -Albert Coffee Tours

We were picked up on time in a comfortable 10 passenger van

at the designated spot in SMdA. Albert immediately introduced himself and from then on a morning of history, incredible archiological site and visit amongst other knowledgeable passengers. Albert is a Mexican resident but from US. His passion and college education in mesoamerica is impressive. If you tend to get hungry, bring a snack for the ride which is no more than 40 minutes. Bring sun screen and comfortable walking shoes. Easy trail walking, occasionally on a semi paved road. I would rate it easy hike. It probably can get hot in the summer and cold Jan, Feb etc. I suppose to be prepared for rain but it was simply gorgeous.
