I was undeniably drawn to the tour at Via Organica ranch because I wanted to learn about regenerative agriculture in a place that was putting these skills into action. The setting is gorgeous, expansive and lush, 6300ft up. I not only learned about farming in a way that meets our global challenges, but I was introduced to the most amazing people who are involved with the ranch and restaurant. I cannot say enough about the quality of life that is happening there.
I was able to experience life in central Mexico from a variety of perspectives, as we traveled to surrounding areas and learned from people and place. I came away with more excitement for life, more practical skills for living my values, a wider sense of possibility and brand new group of friends. What better vacation?

Hello. I had a great time at the Via Organica horseback riding tour. It was an adventure that transported me to a different time and space. The romanticism of old country side, desert flowers, cowboys and local food full of flavor and aromas…I still have the vivid picture of pink and red sky as the sun rested behind the naked mountains of Jalpa. This is an adventure worth experiencing if you are visiting San Miguel, the country side is just beautiful!!

This review is for our visit to the Via Organica farm and the wonderful brunch we had there on October 12, 2019. They provided transportation from SMA to the farm (about 20 minutes away). Started with a 6K bike ride around the farm with a stops along the way to enjoy the views and animals (sheep, goats, chickens, turkeys, rabbits). Got a tour of the production areas then a delicious meal all from their farm or other local sources.

With the help of Humberto, we booked a trail ride. We rode the horses for an hour and a half into the countryside. Midway, we stopped to be served a delicious traditional Mexican village lunch. Got to try agua miel and pulque along with limonada as a choice. I was very happy that the horses were not typical of rented horses--the ones that don't notice cues and constantly want to go home. These were both responsive and steady and great for my husband who almost has never been on a horse in his life!
I have to admit I was disappointed we did not get a tour of the Organic Farm, Via Organica. When my sister went, there was a docent who explained the activities of the Farm as well as going on the horse ride. So if you want to do both, you'd better ask up front.

A group of 6 of us from all over the US met in SMA for my 40th birthday. I knew I wanted to do a group horse riding trip and there was more than one choice and I'm so glad I went with Via Organica. We had a fantastic time--Humberto was hilarious, the trip was mellow enough for non-experienced riders (we had 3 people) and the meal stop along the tour was DELICIOUS! Home run! This is your horseback riding experience in SMA.
Also, if you're hippie dippy with an interest in sustainable ag (three of us in the group met at a hardcore social justice/environmental college in AZ) Humberto's farm will be your JAM! Amazing to see the operation he's grown over four years.
We ate breakfast at the restaurant our last morning in SMA. The food was fresh and wonderful--our only critique: more seasoning. In terms of another reviewer's criticism of price--it's definitely more expensive here as almost all of the food in the restaurant is coming from the farm and organic/sustainable costs more to produce. Humberto gives a farm tour before the ride and told us the eggs make almost no profit due to high cost of feed. But we were an experienced group of consumers. I worked on an organic farm and have a personal passion for local/sustainable food practices. So go in knowing you are paying more than anywhere else in the city.
We all agreed this was our favorite event during our 6 days in SMA!

Dear Shannon,
Thank you so much for your kind words! We are so glad you enjoyed the horseback ride with Humberto and that you liked our production gardens. We work hard to make healthy food available for everyone, but it's hard to match the prices of big companies that use chemicals and cheap processes and pay their workers unfairly in order to lower their selling prices. It's all about educating the consumer and creating awareness to make better choices, that's what we are trying to do both in our store -restaurant and at the ranch.
We hope to see you soon!

Very regenerative week learning about the Heart of Mexico in San Miguel. From great accommodation to wonderful organic meals prepared by Maria and the Via Organica restaurant. The setting is peaceful with plenty of space to roll out your yoga mat. The tours to Canada de la Virgen, the tasting at the organic winery, the fun horse tour to Jalpa, several trips to San Miguel, the Lavender Project and the Via Organica ranch were beyond my expectations. I loved Merixell as our guide, everything was well organized before during and upon departure. The history and charm of this tour will be with you forever. Thank you Rose, Ronnie, Rosanna, Roger and all the OCA staff.

It was a wonderful experience. I am always looking for new adventures and this one really filled the bill. Our group was 16 people . Ages from 26 to 80 year. I would do it again in a minute and would say---go for it.
The food was great. The activities were fun, some educational and some physical.
Check out the website--You will be glad you did.

Amazing--days packed with interesting activities on the ranch and surrounding areas, gardens, markets, archeological sites, historical buildings, delicious food, people watching in the square. Challenging--discussions with other tour members and with speakers re the need for regeneration of our earth and the work being done to raise awareness and urgency, creating new thoughts about my part in all this. All in all, one of the best "vacations" I have ever taken. I would recommend this tour to anyone who is looking for interesting travel with big side-helping of consciousness-raising about what we are doing to the earth and how we can help stop the hurt and regenerate healthy systems.
