The San Miguel art market is a short 2alk from the main plaza and is well worth a stop for well priced souvenirs and handicrafts.

Mercado de artesanias lucas Balderas is another place you must visit. Get a sense of what prices are around the city before you make purchases (anywhere). Very colorful and lots of fun.

Markets in any town provide you with another point of view and this one is no exception, from the fresh fruit and veg at one end right down to the silver wares, fabric and jewellery

For visitors to San Miguel, this mercado provides the ambience of a more traditional tianguis, as a change from the many chic and over-priced stores in town, or even other neighborhood tienditas selling similar articles. Other reviewers have stated warnings about pricing. For visitors using US dollars, the current rate of exchange in their favor should make anything purchased here at any price a bargain. Locals know which vendors to go to for specific items such as Oaxacan rugs (the owner of one shop phones her husband in Oaxaca to confirm the delivery date of the custom-sized rug I want to order) and the Mexican pewter vendors all have similar prices and always offer the same discount to shoppers. At the end of the market, which runs all the way from the west from Calle Hernandez Macias, is the main city market. The artisan market crosses two streets before ending at the main market which has food and flowers. What a visitor might see here that won't be available elsewhere are actual artisans working on their products. …

If prices are posted, shopping can be ok. Many shops DO NOT post prices and foreigners are going to pay far too much. Local shops only steps away from the Mercado have embroidered dresses for 1/3 of the price. Warning: DO NOT BUY embroidered dresses at this mercado!
