This was one of the best things I did while traveling throughout Mexico for 2 months. I chose Leisurely Country Horseback Riding for many reasons: The owner/operator, Beth, runs a safe and fun trail riding business and she’s an expat American. The ride was informative and worth every peso. Her cowboys that ride with you are helpful and kind and the freshly prepared Mexican lunch at the end of the ride was delicious. I enjoyed every minute of the 1/2 day riding through the Ejido de Boca de la Canada and doing this on my birthday made it even more special. To sum it up, it was Beth’s attention to detail and her real enthusiasm for trail riding that really made this a memory I will cherish for a long time. Don’t waste your time looking at any other trail riding companies in the San Miguel de Allende area. This is the one.

Beth and the cowboys gave us a wonderful day riding up a canyon, through the stream, and then up to a spot where we had a lovely view from the distance of San Miguel. From the beginning when they helped us up on our horses to the last moment when we got off, I felt like the crew was watching us and making sure we were safe and comfortable with any situation that arose. The horses were great, sure footed and responsive. If the ride wasn’t enough, lunch was prepared when we got back, and that was a delicious ending to our experience. Beth picked us up at our B and B, and dropped us back off.....no worries on our part about anything!

Beth provides an excellent day of fun and adventure on horseback. Form the minute she picks you up at your hotel/Airbnb , your day is filled with great site-seeing and learning about the beautiful area just outside San Miguel de Allende. She and the Cowboys ensure that every rider has a great time, no matter their level of experience riding horses. Oh, and the lunch!! it's provided by the local women in the community she has partnered with and it was delicious! I love that she is a female owned business that is connected with the community she's called home for 13 years. Highly recommend for any and all ages while in San Miguel!

This was a great activity to do while in San Miguel de Allende. We had the perfect day for it also. The horses were nice and very responsive. Beth is great ! She communicated well and even moved my day a couple times due to the weather. It is a leisurely ride up the mountain complete with a few chances to trot or gallop. The cowboys are wonderful and take good care of everyone. You can go at your own pace. And then - the LUNCH - fantastic! If you are even debating a little - take this ride.

Beth was such a wonderful hostess; the day was perfect! So much fun to be out in nature with the horses. Great combination of chill and adventure. And the lunch provided afterwards was awesome and so nourishing. (I had some dietary requirements that I did not anticipate they would accommodate and they did happily; it made me feel so welcome!). Can’t wait to go back and do it again!

My brother was visiting San Miguel de Allende, where I live, with his 20 year old son. Beth encouraged us to canter on a cobblestoned area where NO-ONE should ever canter. It was very unsafe and dangerous. Fortunately, nothing happened to my brother although he is 70 and has never cantered before in his life (which she didn't even bother to find out). My nephew, however, fell on his face and needed stitches. Afterwards, in addition to the $30 per hour per person that was charged, Beth wanted us to also pay tips to each of her riding assistants which would have amounted to another $25. I refused and thought she should pay them out of the money she charged us. I used to be a professional horse woman years ago - and can tell you that this woman knows almost nothing about horses or professional safety. She only began riding when she came to San Miguel five years ago and is a rank amateur. In addition, the majority of the time you ride with her, you will be riding on rocks, not real country roads. Very discouraging.

As the owner, I take every precaution to ensure all our clients are “safe” since safety is our #1 priority as you can see in the 169 reviews since 2011. I have taken over 3,500 clients of all experience levels trail riding which is my expertise and use plenty of professional cowboys who are very attentive. I provide a detailed western lesson each time and ask everyone’s level of riding experience. I rely on the individual’s responses and say it’s all about “communication”. You and your husband responded that you enjoy cantering since you owned horses years ago. Your nephew responded he has galloped before twice and your brother didn’t respond. I say you can walk, trot or canter based on your comfort level while we wait for the others on the trails. I do not encourage any client to go beyond their comfort level…… I asked each if you wanted to canter and each responded “yes”. Since he had ridden before he told us he knew what he did wrong by stopping his horse abruptly from a canter and fell. Again, I am very sorry he fell and we were glad that he was okay. I take full responsibility and took him to the emergency room to get checked for stitches while the rest of you decided to continue riding with the cowboys since he was okay. Your brother told me that he enjoyed his horse and cantering after the three of you completed the trail ride. Our ranch horses are sure footed and know the trails where we ride through the river and up alongside the canyon on a basic/easy trail to enjoy the views of the Canada de Virgen. We return back down through the beautiful countryside on the various trails depending on the age and experience levels!

This was a terrific day....!!!
Beth personally picked us up and took us out to the ranch. Here were beautiful, well-cared for horses at a sustainable family-run community. The tours contribute to their ranch and they provide a delicious, antithetic Mexican lunch.
The 2 1/2 hour trail ride took us to the high dessert where we walked, trotted and cantered. We stopped for pictures at the stunning cliff-side ravine. The ride was fun and enjoyable.
Next Beth took us to La Gruta spa where we bathed in the natural, very hot springs in the grotto and pools. A very special place

We loved out time in SMA but this tour was the highlight of our trip...!
Beth was terrific, professional and fun to spend the day with....Thank you so much*

My friend and I were not sure which riding tour to choose. We looked at several and decided on this tour because of the hot springs. We were so happy to have chosen Beth's company! Wow, a tremendously fantastic day! We were picked up in San Miguel, escorted to the ranch in a lovely community in the hills. Beth talked about the community and how her company works with them to help create a sustainable service offering horseback rides in the countryside.

The horses are beautiful, well-kept and very easy to ride, especially where I'm a beginner. Beth described the history of the places we rode and stopped at all the right places for photos. We were accompanied the local cowboy Reyes, who expertly helped us on and off the horses and guided us throughout the tour.

The ride finished with a fresh lunch and a trip to the beautiful hot springs for a relaxing afternoon in beautiful surroundings. Thank you so much!

Yesterday was amazing. We had the BEST ride celebrating the Cabalgata de Cristo Rey (blessing of the horses) from the moment we arrived at Catalino's rancho in Boca de la Cañada departing for our 6 hour ride in the dark at 6:30 a.m Loved riding Sucio. He's a strong little guy and very responsive. We rode with Catalino, Reyes, Manuel, and David. They were great fun, telling stories and laughing all the way, and were also extremely considerate and thoughtful throughout the ride. The scenery was breathtaking. As dawn broke, the grand vistas from the mountain top, with San Miguel far in the distance still twinkling in its night lights - awe inspiring. Swaths of magenta cosmos and yellow sunflowers colored the landscape everywhere. 6 hours after departing, we joined 200 riders, and in a beautiful long procession, rode into Dos Arroyos for the blessing of the horses - Cabalgate de Cristo Rey. The day truly rivaled rides I've done in the Rockies, Peru and Chile Patagonia. Top notch in every way. This is one of the finest ways to see true Mexico, experience the ranchero lifestyle, and appreciate the warm graciousness of Mexican people.

I did a 1/2 day sunset ride, which was fantastic. The views, scenery and sunset were beautiful. It was both a fun and relaxing experience. My horse was very well-behaved and responsive. My guides were friendly and attentive. Overall, it was just a fabulous way to spend an afternoon in the outdoors. I'll definitely be returning soon!
