Terrific cooking class
Jul 2021
We had a great experience with Kris. We took the Intensive Class for 6 house. Kris took us through the market in Centro, introduced us to different sellers (particularly good for my brother-in-law who moved here), and then took us back to he school for the class. Food was delicious and though all of us were experienced cooks, we each learned new techniques relating to Mexican cuisine. Overall, it was a highlight of our week in San Miguel.

Do yourself a favor, and don’t miss out - cook and learn with Kris!!

Kris and her La Cocina cooking class were wonderful. She was full of knowledge about San Miguel’s history, about Mexico in general, the history of it’s peoples, and the history of it’s cuisine. Her connections with local vendors meant that we saw the best of what the market had to offer. And when we went to her beautiful house to begin cooking, the experience was just as good. The class was paced so that we turned out dishes progressively through the day, so we always had something to nosh on. And when the main meal was ready, we realized we had prepared a huge feast that stuffed us all, without even registering that we were working that hard! Rather it seemed that we were just hanging out in a friend’s kitchen, chatting away, and lo and behold, the feast appeared! The conversation was fun and flowed easily, whether we were talking technical food questions, discussing what it was like to run her many restaurants and businesses, or just chatting in general about life - there was no lag or down time. She kept us fully engaged throughout the day, letting us do as much or as little work as each participant wanted. And the foods we prepared were wonderful. Even when we had a dish not work out quite as we wanted, we had fun running a postmortem on it to discover where we may have gone wrong, and what we could do differently next time to achieve the results we wanted. If you are interested in Mexican cuisine, history, art, and culture, I can’t recommend Kris’ classes enough. Do yourself a favor and sign up soon! You’ll be so happy you did!

Can't wait to take another class!
Jul 2021
A fabulous day....from the history of the marketplace to showing us where to buy the best produce....I just had a wonderful time. Back at Kris's home we tried our hand at her recipes with our market purchases....terrific meal and recipes that I will really use at home. Thank you Kris for being a great teacher and a new friend.

Our FAVORITE cooking class
May 2021
We had so much fun and learned so much in this cooking class. We were hands on the entire class and loved the education that went with the individual ingredients and recipes. We will do a class with Kris each visit to SMA.

Best Cooking Class Ever!!
Feb 2020
Our cooking class started with a history lesson in one of San Miguel’s oldest squares that was once a market area. We then went to Kris’ home where we were greeted with guava water. We made two different salsas, white beans, a fabulous marinated beef dish (flank steak) and a cactus salad that went perfectly with the beef. Dessert was finished off with coconut ice cream topped with mango & pineapple. The teaching was very informative & fun; the finished meal outstanding & unforgettable and my favorite cooking class that I’ve ever taken.

Best idea for SAN Miguel!
Feb 2020
Kris did such a wonderful job on our all day intensive that we went back for the 4 hour Mexican fusion workshop. A great teacher with knowledge of food chemistry, food culture, social and cultural context of cuisine. Well prepared and well explained with infinite patience and terrific menus.

**SMA MUST DO!*** Fun, informative, and delicious!
Feb 2020
My mom and I so enjoyed Kris's Indigenous Mexican cooking class and market tour!
Kris is so knowledgable -- the tour included a lot of SMA history as well as yummy samples from the market!
After our market tour, we headed back to the stunning cooking school (also a B&B!) and made a variety of delicious dishes for lunch.
We had a great time cooking with our group -- a fun mix of new pals ranging from a young couple from Brooklyn to retirees from Chicago.
Thank you Kris for a special day, a memory my mom and I won't ever forget!

Terrific, Multifaceted Class
Feb 2020
From start to finish the three couples who went to the 'school' had a splendid time. It was obvious Kris has put a lot of thought into the whole shopping/cooking process and sincerely wants the participants to appreciate both the Mexican/indigenous foods and culture . From the market experience (vendor samples!), the native cookware, menus and the food preparation process it was well organized, very educational and very delicious!
