Great market to table cooking class
My sisters and I visited San Miguel and wanted to do a market to table cooking class and booked Kris's class based on the reviews, what a great time! We loved going to the market and learning our way around, we ended up going back a few times during our trip. The actual class was also so interesting and fun, Kris has a deep knowledge of the area, traditions, and foods. What we agreed on was that the recipes we made we would make again, none were too complicated and all were delicious! Not to mention being able to cook and eat in her beautiful kitchen and home. Highly recommend this for all ages.

    Culinary Magic at La Cocina
Kris's cooking classes were an absolute delight! I was lucky enough to attend two sessions, and they were both absolutely fantastic. Kris, the culinary mastermind, effortlessly blends her deep knowledge of Mexican cuisine with a sprinkle of scientific insight. I was floored by her explanations of techniques like baking—she could turn anyone into a kitchen scientist! And the food was absolutely delicious. But the excitement didn't end in the kitchen. After all the chopping, sizzling, and blending, we gathered for a heartwarming family-style dinner of our culinary triumphs. And you know what's the icing on the cake? Kris's warm and inviting nature. As a solo traveler, I was embraced by the group as if we were old friends. If you're hungry for not just delectable flavors but also a genuinely delightful experience, Kris's cooking school is an absolute must-visit while in San Miguel.

What a lovely day cooking with Kris!
We had a wonderful day with Kris in her kitchen (and garden). One thing I didn't expect was her knowledge and history of food and its origins, which added so much to the experience. The drinks were simple and delicious and the healthy Mexican choice a refreshing option. The setting was lovely and Kris was an engaging teacher and host. I would have NO hesitation recommending her school - you will not be disappointed!

Fun day of learning about the cooking of the San Miguel region.
This was such fun. Starting at the market is a wonderful way to get into the culture of the city, & Kris has an incredible knowledge of the city and the history. After the market we went to her cooking school for several hours of good company, good food & leaning about & practicing the local cuisine. This is well worth the time & investment. I strongly urge anyone who’s interested in learning about San Miguel & Mexico to take advantage of this opportunity. Food connects us all to one another & the world.

    More Than You Anticipate
My husband and I didn’t know what to expect because sometimes when you book things online it’s a crapshoot. But believe me, this experience exceeded whatever we anticipated. Kris is a knowledgeable historian, a great cook, and a wonderful conversationalist. We learned so much about Mexico, San Miguel and…what foods to buy at the market. Her house is authentic and beautiful, as is her food. Plus, our time together was just fun! Worth every penny.

    Cooking with Kris in SMDA
What a delightful experience. Kris was so knowledgeable about San Miguel and it's history. We learned so much about the food, the culture and the area of San Miguel. Kris allowed us all to be very hands-on in all the preparations. We actually learned to cook rather than just following a recipe. I would highly recommend one of Kris's classes if you have the pleasure of being in SMDA.

    Wonderful experience.
I took two classes while visiting and both were wonderful. You not only learn how to make the meals but also get the history of the food which puts everything in context. It’s a fun, informal, comfortable setting and I highly recommend it.

I was SO excited to take a Molé class, but what I wasn’t expecting was the exceptional quality of the entire experience and the food, it was truly the Molé of my dreams - the most delicious, most satisfying I have literally ever had.

Beyond the cooking what was especially captivating was the fount of knowledge that is Kris Rudolph. She was so welcoming and possessing the most positive energy and charm from the moment we walked through the door. The class was very hands on and nonstop historic information that inspired all of the dishes that we prepared, and although the Tres leches cake is not indigenous, it was also the best I’ve ever had. The cake topped off a wonderful meal that we enjoyed in the dining room while being delighted by Kris’s stories from her over 30 years of San Miguel adventures.

I can’t more highly recommend La Cocina Cooking School and look forward to keeping in touch and joining her again whenever possible. Be prepared to leave inspired and with a new set of skills you’ll be eager to put to practice when you return home. Spend time perusing all the courses, classes and tours - she has so much to offer! And don’t hesitate to book!

Chris and her team did an incredible job. At first I thought 4 hours was going to be a long time, but then I wished we could have had more time. Chris was very knowledgeable about the foods, the country, the culture, and at the same time kept us all cooking and laughing. She kept things moving along but never felt rushed. A delightful afternoon for all of us.

We had a great experience with Kris. We took the Intensive Class for 6 house. Kris took us through the market in Centro, introduced us to different sellers (particularly good for my brother-in-law who moved here), and then took us back to he school for the class. Food was delicious and though all of us were experienced cooks, we each learned new techniques relating to Mexican cuisine. Overall, it was a highlight of our week in San Miguel.

Four of us signed up for the Market Tour & Indigenous Cooking class with Kris prior to arriving in SMA. Kris was kind enough to move our class when one of our party couldn't make it on the scheduled day. The class was great. We met Kris in the square near the market. Kris gave us the history of the area and the market, which was fascinating. We then moved into the market where Kris took us though a number of the stalls and products as we purchased items for the meal we would be cooking. Back at her house, as expected, her kitchen was large with working space for all of us to learn and help with the preparation. She took us through the meal we would be making and the preparation for each of the ingredients. None of it was difficult and really represented the techniques used everyday. In the end, we all sat down and had a lovely lunch and conversation. Kris' thirty years in SMA and cooking professionally made the day informative, tasty and fun. And, of course, we have the recipes to bring back home to help remember our day with Kris.

It was a marvelous day with Kris Rudolph at her La Cocina Cooking School. We gathered at the Civic Plaza, site of the former market where Kris gave us a very interesting and motivating talk on the history of San Miguel and the Market.
Once connected with the place in this way we walked on over to the present, bustling Market, following Kris through her preferred stalls as she explained different things, including the amazing varieties of chiles. We used chile pasilla for the delicious salsa we made later in the La Cocina kitchen. Such a marvelous texture! Cactus salad was also on the menu, to die for! I won't give it all away now! Do sign up and enjoy a culinary experience with Kris yourself!

Excellent food. Warm and educational host. Feels like you are coming into someone's home to learn from them - which you are! In a charming area of town with many buildings covered in murals. Ask for a tour of her private garden and take a look at the salvaged door which leads to it!

Kris did such a wonderful job on our all day intensive that we went back for the 4 hour Mexican fusion workshop. A great teacher with knowledge of food chemistry, food culture, social and cultural context of cuisine. Well prepared and well explained with infinite patience and terrific menus.

Our family of 4 - parents a two adult children - really enjoyed our immersive Mexican cooking experience. We not only learned new recipes, and great preparation tips to some delicious dishes but also learned the history of some indigenous ingredients and tools. Kris was able to accommodate our needs for a private session too. Our self prepared dinner started with delicious guacamole, then cheese stuffed poblano chiles, roasted cactus salad, mole poblano with chicken and ended with a tres leches cake. The class really helped us overcome our fear of using previously unfamiliar chili peppers and mexican food items such as cactus.
