We really enjoyed ourselves looking through the art at the Cristi Fer Art Gallery We met artist Cristiana Marinescu while at the gallery and enjoyed the conversation with her. We don't speak Spanish, so Cristiana's English was greatly appreciated. What a joy to discuss with the artist her thoughts and inspirations into the pieces we viewed. We bought a very reasonably priced unframed original painting that Cristiana carefully packaged and sent directly to home. It looks beautiful in our home and reminds us of the moonlight views in San Miguel. I highly recommend this gallery. When we return to San Miguel, we plan to take one of Cristiana's one day workshops.

I had been researching San Miguel de Allende on the internet for several years and I was finally able to go for a week. I love art and I was traveling alone, so I thought it would be fun to take a class while I was there. It turned out to be the perfect activity for a lady traveling alone. I really enjoyed Cristi's teaching and her studio is very beautiful and inspiring. Because of her instruction about composition, I was very pleased with the paintings I made under her guidance and even the photos I took turned out really well. Cristi was a pleasure to talk to, and was helpful to answer my questions about visiting and living in SMA. I am hoping to go back soon and spend more time there. When I do, I plan to take another class at the Cristi Fer art studio.

What a pleasant surprise that they could accomadate such a variety in our interests and ability. I am persuing my MFA with a minor in printmaking so this was a varation of technique. My daughter is an art major at our university and my mom took an adult ed painting class 2 years ago. In addition to being warm and accomadating people, they are professional artists and excellent teachers. Working in their studio was a treat. We arrived and everything was laid out for us to begin, down to bottled water to drink.
Coming from the land of AC Moore, Utrech , and our local art supply stores there was a bit culture shock to to understand the difficulties in having access to the everyday supplies we take for granted. Their experiences added to our experience. Our extended family who did not join us said they would this next trip.

San Miguel is a wonderful place: landscape, architecture, crafts museums, folk art galleries, parks, rolling hills - yet the two instructors use their laptop (and not a good one) to teach from, and continuously refer to as their point-of-reference. If you ask to do something different, they become highly OFFENDED, and scold you for it. The class was 450 dollars from 9-1 and is way too expensive for what I came out of it with. I came away with maybe 3-4 drawings and 1 painting where if I took a wrksp in NYC I would have 10 drawings a day. One reason being the instructor particularly Crystina talks too much and is way too into over intellectualizing ever mark you put on a paper. She's also very passive agressive and teaches from her feelings, not her common sense. They stand on top of you the whole time, making me feel very uncomfortable. I don't think instructors in the MFA program at SVA or FIT would even do that. They both could use some lessons in teaching, people skills in terms of teaching, and how to not be so dogmatic in their approach. They also use ridiculously cheap supplies and then yell at you for taking too much. Look into a school in San Miguel , OR just go walk around, paint on your own. Visit Juarez Park in the afternoons. You'll meet local artists and ask them. They also made a point on the last day of telling me how much they DID for me during the week. HELLO I paid for this course... they really have no business talking to paying customers like that.

I have been taking the art classes at Cristi Fer Art Studio in Playa for 2 month and it was an unforgettable painting experience.
Cristiana and Fernando are wonderful teachers who helped me to to learn various painting techniques, how to explore myself and feel confident about my work. I had a lot of fun at the classes. Cristi and Fernando are great to work with and have a passion for their art, which is very unique.
They are the sweetest human beings and I highly recommend visiting their studio to anyone who has an appreciation for fine art.

I'm a beginning artist with limited experience. Fernando, a highly experienced artist and teacher, worked with me at my level, teaching and explaining while pushing me to experiment and grow. I learned a ton and came home with 9 paintings from my 7 mornings with him. Great souvenirs from our stay in San Miguel and great tools for learning. I can see the improvement from day 1 to day 7! We covered composition, shapes, value, color, mixing, brush strokes, palette knife and more all while painting. I took the Doors of San Miguel, a private lesson (both in studio) and the 5 day plein air class. Fernando is a good guy and fun to get to know. His English is great which was a must for this non-Spanish speaker. I recommend Christi Fer to anyone who wants to learn about painting and see San Miguel in a different way. I had a great experience that I will remember every time I look at a painting or pick up a brush!

I had a delightful time learning many techniques and practicing them in sketching and painting. Cristiana and Fernando are fantastic teachers and provide all supplies and rides. I felt like the classes were planned and carried out with careful attention to my level and artistic needs. I will return home with renewed passion and skills to paint!

My daughter and I had a nice experience going to paint one afternoon in San Miguel de Allende with Cristi. The studio was lovely and she provided all the materials and instruction. The paintings are definitely our favorite souvenirs that we brought home!

I had a great experience at Cristi Fer Studios. Both Cristi and Fernando were very welcoming & excellent teachers. They were very encouraging & patient teachers, sharing their passion for their art and experiences. I learn great techniques to use as beginning artist & am a little more comfortable getting out there to practice sketching as I develop my skills. It was great week, can’t wait to return! What a great way to experience a new city.
