The Biblioteca is the lifeblood of both the Spanish and English-speaking community in San Miguel. Aside from the obvious - book collections in both languages that are very impressive - most of the cultural activities expats and tourists take part in are centered here. The building itself is impressive as well and there's a mural that is outstanding. Not to... More

It seems that most expat communities in Mexico have a central gathering place for information and connections. In Ajijic,it's the Lake Chapala Society. In SMA, it's the Biblioteca. Besides having a large selection of both English and Spanish language books, the Biblioteca has a café and multiple venues for lectures, movies, plays and music. There are multiple events going on... It was our first time in San Miguel and the public library came highly recommended for local tips and resources. Everyone was friendly and helpful, the cafe was lovely and the bookstore has great maps and a local newspaper filled with events for the week. If you need a new book in English while in San Miguel, this is the... More

We stayed around the corner from the biblioteca for our three week stay. We took Spanish lessons there, joined the informal Spanish conversation group twice a week, went to a concert, took the history tour, the home and garden tour and more.

Be sure to pop in to the Biblioteca. Check out the murals - awesome! Pick up a used book in English or a craft item. have lunch in the atrium - cheap, filling, good tasting! There was live music the day we were there.

We went here for our first breakfast. The settling is lovely and comfortable. The servers took great care of us. There were many choices that our teens enjoyed. Plus we were able to support the local library.

My favorite thing about our library is how it connects this community. If you want to know about all of the local activities including some not in the local newspaper this is the place. The cafe is a nice stop to.
