I come sit here every day. It's become my routine to get a late-morning cup of coffee and just sit here and soak up the vibe. And I'm often here late afternoon or evenings as well. The park is spotless, it seems there are people sweeping the pathways 24x7. There is often wandering musicians, sometimes groups of 6 - 10 people playing and singing. And the view of the Parroquia is stunning. It's just a fantastic place to sit and relax. There are vendors selling ice cream and other food depending on the day, and there are often events, like food markets, or crafts fairs on the square. My favorite spot in SMdA!

There are many reviews of the El Jardin and I will add just a couple of notes. It is the heart of the Heart Of Mexico as San Miguel de Allende advertises itself. This is a must stop and rest place to view locals, tourists, natives hawking trinkets, baskets, hats, etc., and kids asking for money! Really is a gathering place in front of the cathedral of San Miguel! In 3 visits we observed weddings, a funeral, practicing for a quinciero (sp?), artists, performers, outsized characters and much more!! Definitely a great place to drink a refreshment, eat a lunch or dinner, buy some souvenirs and just people watch.
Many retirees from Canada, the USA and other countries come here for the winter, for a month or just on a tour. Very safe and friendly and even has a Starbucks on one corner!

This is where everyone goes to hangout, meet friends, relax. The central park is tree-lined and shaded. So it is a cool spot even on the hottest of days. If you come here, you will see old men gathered to talk; young couples together; people having something to eat or drink. There are also colorful people, processions, sellers and local features. You can spend time here just taking in the variety and diversity of the local color.
Stop and have a drink at on of the cafes along the perimeter and just relax & enjoy.

El Jardin is is the heart of this picturesque city in Mexico's central highlands. It's San Miguel's main plaza, the magnet that draws tourists and locals alike, a public space that really belongs to and attracts a diverse public. Surrounded by little street-food vendors, cafes and more elegant restaurants, bars, and coffee shops, it offers plenty of dining and snacking options. In the evenings, mariachi orchestras serenade the patrons eating at the many outdoor tables or stroll through the well-manacured trees of the park. Locals often join in singing the songs the minstrels perform. Foreign or local, young and old - it's a place for eveyone.

Known as El Jardin, this tree-lined plaza is surrounded by gorgeous buildings such as the parish church of San Miguel. Hanging out here easily tops the list of things to do in San Miguel de Allende. The square is bustling with activity in the evenings and at the weekend. You’ll see roaming mariachi bands, balloon salesmen, and plenty of snack vendors, making for a very lively scene. Many want-a-be artists are scene sketching the church.

This is our fourth visit to San Miguel de Allende originally recommended by a close friend. Many have preconceived ideas about Mexico and I want to tell them, go to San Miguel where it is clean, safe, perfect 70 degree weather with great food and shopping at a reasonable price. Start out at the Jardin where you will find many Mexican families with their little ones and Grandma. It is also a haven for ex pats and tourists alike - a great mix of all ages and all nationalities. The Jardin is shaded in a square of beautifully trimmed trees and shrubs. Their are heavy, ornate cast iron benches throughout always filled with people looking to be in the shade or seeking out the sun. The Jardin faces the Parroquia, a pinkish sandstone church that is a beckoning call to all of San Miguel. And don’t forget the array of sellers of balloons, toys, hats to keep out the sun, ice cream and soft drinks. One of my very favorite spots to people watch.

The garden is beautifully maintained, and the grounds are very clean. Lots of heavy wrought iron benches to sit upon. During the day, sometimes there are children playing soccer with their coaches/parents, and everyone is cheering. Streets are closed off to trafffic around this area, so it is easy walking in the streets around El Jardin. Street vendors, restaurants, museums, art galleries, gorgeous shops -everything within easy distance.

Great place to spend an hour or for a meet up spot. Local families often having fun with small children. The vendors are pretty reliable if you are a bit adventuresome. I can certainly vouch for the coconut ice cream. The beauty of the Catholic Parrochia, especially when lit at night, can't be missed.

Plaza Allende is known as el jardin because of the trees and wrought iron benches.
It's like a garden atmosphere in the middle of a buzz of activity all around it. Gives the historic center of the city a small park.

Beautiful, tree-filled park in the central square of San Miguel. Our hotel was just around the corner from this park and we strolled through there most nights as it was always lively and welcoming. Mariachi bands, families, tourists, a nice mix.

Is getting around San Miguel De Allende with a baby stroller doable or impossible?
Written October 24, 2016
It is totally doable . The cobblestone streets and sidewalks are narrow but accessible

what is the cost of the shuttle to the airport
Written January 27, 2015
Hi! I would strongly recommend Bajio Go, where you can arrange a shuttle to any airport (shared trip or not). New vans and trucks, professional drivers and reasonable prices (U$ 150 for a one-pax one-way trip to DF or half that price if it is a shared trip to same destination). Both my experiences were great and it is just one block from El Jardin!
