- Austin Y52 contributionsHuge market with lots of options!Went to this local market several times in just a few days. Tons of fresh fruit and vegetables, flowers, meats, spices and much more. Try to go earlier and not at the end of the day when most things are sold out. They also have several restaurants inside selling authentic mexican food: tacos, quesadillas, tortas, gorditas, enchiladas, and more. Several juice stands where they make fresh juice. All of these are so good and very cheap. We had big sandwiches for $35 pesos each, and they go up to about $70 pesos depending on what you get. On the backside there are several venders selling clothing and souvenirs, they have almost anything you’d want to buy! Nobody is pressuring you to buy anything and they dont try to rip you off. Outside the market there are stands selling churros and ice cream, sometimes cookies too, all very cheap but tasty!! Also the “Mercado de Artesian’s” is attached on the backside where it’s all merchants selling tons of souvenirs, it has 4 sections and continues outside.Visited June 2022Traveled with friendsWritten June 9, 2022
- PAWandererPhiladelphia, Pennsylvania17 contributionsA big, vibrant local marketWe went to the Ignacio Ramirez Market with the chef who taught our cooking class. It is a vibrant, colorful part of local culture and it was fun to visit there to buy ingredients for our dishes. I recommend going there for both the grocery items and all of the local vendors who sell craft items, too!Visited December 2019Traveled with familyWritten January 6, 2020
- David E16 contributionsGood buysThey had a lot of of nice things. About a third of it is food, but we didn’t go into that section. The rest of it souvenirs and neat things buy. You’ll probably get a better deal on most things here than in the Centro, although they didn’t deal on the prices. They were very friendly and accommodating. The place is larger than it looks.Visited March 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten March 20, 2023
- MC0526Miami Beach, Florida25 contributionsMarket visitWhile in San Miguel de Allende this market is a must visit. Don’t forget to continue and walk through to Mercado de Artesanías which connects to this market. There’s a fruit stand in the center of the market with huge cups of fresh fruit juices and limonada that is delicious. There’s also a Gorditas de Nata ( sweet gorditas with Nutella or sweetened condensed milk filling) stand outside the market on the sidewalk by the entrance. My girls went back 3 days in a row for these. Never saw these types of sweet gorditas anywhere else.Visited December 2019Traveled with familyWritten January 3, 2020

- non-hillbilly6 contributionsThe place to shopThis is "the place" to shop for just about anything - starting with fresh produce and other foods, moving briefly onto clothing, cowboy boots and small appliances, then into the main section with talavera pottery, toys, jewelry, bolsas, and other goodies. If you are bored, just take a long stroll through the mercado and enjoy the sights, sounds, and smells.Written November 16, 2007
- arubin786 contributionsThe Heart of the Mexican ExperienceIt's hard to write about how much I love el Mercado. I've been coming here since I was a small child with my dad, who loved to take my sister and I out for tortas (delicious grilled sandwiches on french rolls) and chocomilks. This time, I travelled to San Miguel with my sister as an adult---a new experience that gave me new perspective on just how magical San Miguel is. We did a lot of things in our four days in SMA, but every day started with a trip to the mercado for a flavored atole---a completely new experience to us both. Holy MOLEY. How had I never had these before? The best atole stand is outside the market in an area covered with a roof where you will also see lots of women selling handmade gorditas, nopales, cheeses, and other assorted vegetables (the gorditas and nopales are always particularly delicious). Towards the back wall, you will find a bustling stand with about a dozen bright orange large thermoses. Try the galleta, the cascara, and the guayaba atoles---seriously, they are something special. Grab a half dozen of the delicious handmade tamales when you are there and you will be all set. If you're still hungry (impossible, really), go inside the market building and have some fresh juices or a chocomilk. This is a special, special place---don't miss it for fear of eating "street food". Every Mexican knows that this is actually the most delicious comfort food there is, so eat with confidence.Visited November 2013Traveled with friendsWritten November 12, 2013

This is a very authentic local market. Aisles and aisles of produce and flowers, intermingled with counters selling food to go or eat there. If you want to experience shopping like the locals do, this is the place. However, no meat or fish. For this, there are several more traditional shops across the street. The market also morphs into an area selling shoes and clothing. I'm sure bargains abound but we were more interested in the sights, tastes and smells of the food. No prices are listed...too bad because it's fun to compare what we pay at home.

This "mercado" is an excellent place to stock up on fruits if you are staying near it in San Miguel de Allende, GTO. Produce are fresh. No prices are indicated. Better ask the price before buying.

Went in the morning for a fresh squeezed orange juice, we were walking around and saw people eating huaraches. We decided to try one and they were AMAZING. Lots of local and foreign tourists eating at the Veloz Huaraches. Its the one with lots of people. Try them, you'll love them.
