Famed for its early years of wonderful art classes the Instituto has shifted to weekend craft festivals, many wedding, home of Mi Casa restaurant and a few galleries that are worth a visit. The courtyard and murals however capture every photographers imagination. It is easy to see why it is a favorite place for wedding receptions and dinners. A must... More

We found all kinds of neat things in the Instituto. The vendors are eager to make a bargain. Some of the local galleries have booths. Lots of jewelry, and tourist items.

i enjoyed walking through the house. The decor and furniture are reminiscent of the period the Allendes lived there. I'm not sure if it is the actual furniture owned by them. It was interesting to see how the wealthy lived during the colonial period. Definitely worth a visit.

I recommend the Instituto Allende for any sort of large gathering. The event I attended was a wedding reception and The venue was perfect. The large open area was set up where guests could mingle before proceeding to the main area where tables were set up for dinner. As this was a family wedding there was much preparation to do beforehand.... This was a convent and it retains its peaceful, sacred atmosphere. There is a wonderful ice cream stand right outside the entrance. We bought a couple of scoops, then sat in the courtyard to enjoy a rest, some people watching, and ultimately, the art.

You can take Spanish for a week or more, painting, jewelry making, art of any kind. For Spanish classes- anything from whole day immersion to 50 minute conversation classes. Most start every Monday and go for a week or a month.

The Instituto Allende serves as headquarters to San Miguel's arts and live concert scene, but it's worth a visit even if you don't happen to be taking a class or holding a ticket to one of the almost nightly soirees. The main courtyard is one of the loveliest in the city, graced with a relatively contemporary mural that telescopes Mexican... More

I took a water colour painting course here for 4 days. Great instructor. If you go here, there are 2 front doors along the street. Beautiful gardens, courtyards, murals, etc. If you are going to a studio/room for one of their courses, be warned however....not all rooms are marked and few directional signs. So you may get lost easily. Check... More

Mi Casa Resaurante has changed hands and is now Mi Casa Bistro, with cuisine by the excellent caterers, 2 Suecos (2 Swedes) and gypsy jazz fusion music by Gil Gutierrez and his band of talented musicians. What can I say except make a reservation and go! It will be a highlight of your San Miguel experience.
