This parish church is named after St Michael the Archangel, the patron saint of the city. It is it's most famous sight with it's pink sandstone color and wedding cake towers with arched windows. It dates back to the 17th century altho the facade was redone in 1880 to give it it's European fairy-tale architecture. There. were weddings going on the afternoon we were there so did not really get to explore the inside. But what a jewel to see.

In a town with several beautiful churches, this was our favorite. We first saw it near sunset when it glowed with a coral/salmon color--gorgeous! But whether in bright sunlight or seen at night lit up, it is just a beautiful, interesting church. We happened to be in San Miguel de Allende near Christmas time, so there was a gigantic Christmas tree decorated between the church and the plaza, and star-shaped lights strung across the pedestrian walkways. Spectacular! The plaza is very lively at night, with mariachis and other entertainers often performing.

Our visit from PV was a huge weather respite. The church is an architectural beauty and I'm really glad we had a chance to view it inside and out, as there were no services ongoing at the time.
I was a bit surprised by the visitors who were taking photos, since there was a sign requesting no photographs posted at the entry.
It truly is a wonderful site to see and if you are in the Catholic faith, it will be very special. I particularly liked the statue of St. Patrick.

San Miguel's iconic landmark is beautiful during the day, but at night it glows with majesty. Just outside the church is the Jardin which is always lively with Mariachi bands, vendors, and all manner of celebrations. A delightful place to visit.

This church, with its pink wedding cake towers, was designed by stonemason Zeferino Gutiérrez in the late 19th century. He was building an addition to the original church that dated to the 1600’s.
According to local lore, Gutiérrez, who had no architectural training, based the design on a postcard of a Belgian church. He instructed workers by scratching plans in the sand with a stick.
The interior is every bit as colorful and spectacular with unusual saint statues and depictions of Christ.

This is a very impressive cathedral, both inside and out. The outside facade with its spires is very picturesque. Be sure to see it up close as well as from a distance during your stay in San Miguel.
The main chamber when we visited was still decked out with Christmas lights and displays and that was nice to view. There is a side chapel as well that has some vivid statues depicting the stations of the cross, this chapel is not for the faint hearted!

This is a "don't miss." It's exquisite during the day and even more when it gets lit up at night. The inside is really something to see. And when you walk outside you get to enjoy the beautiful square and park filled with mariachis. It's simply wonderful.
Here's my question, though, and it's nothing against this attraction. What's the story with women doing sexy poses in front of the cathedral? I don't get it. It's not a club. So many women stand in front of La Parroquia and do the sexiest poses they can for a photo. Ladies.... it's a CHURCH, not a club!!!

Such a beautiful church in the town center. The best time to take pictures is in the early evening or the late evening when the lights are shining on it and there are not very many people around. It is beautiful inside and out and the views from many different locations are outstanding

People call it the cathedral but I'm not sure it is or has a bishop. It might be the most beautiful church in San Miguel de Allende and we have seen 6 or more. There is lots of decoration and Saint Michael the arcángel stands on top of the altar.

This looks like a fairytail park. The trees , the benches, ice cream vendors and at night hot dog and hamburger stands. The Mariachis competing music, and families and tourists alike just enjoying life. It's always entertaining day or night. It's also fun to watch wedding parties on Fridays and Saturdays. Wonderful shopping around the square and on nearby streets.

We are trying to get to San Miguel de Allende from the Moroleón area. Does anyone know what the safest and easiest way to do so would be? We asked one his company, but the into route there arrives around 9pm. We’d prefer a daytime route.
