The centerpiece and focal point and one of the best things to do in San Miguel Allende is the unmissable church. La Parroquia de San Miguel Arcángel or the Church of St. Michael the Archangel is as impressive as it is massive. This is arguably the most photogenic spot in the city inside and out. Enjoy the view from the well-manicured garden in the plaza directly in front of the church that looks almost like an ornate pinkish orange cake! On Sundays, the plaza out front is filled with families and their children enjoying the park. The Luna Rooftop Tapas Bar in the Rosewood Hotel is a great place to have a cocktail enjoying both the sunset and this amazing church

This is a "don't miss." It's exquisite during the day and even more when it gets lit up at night. The inside is really something to see. And when you walk outside you get to enjoy the beautiful square and park filled with mariachis. It's simply wonderful.

Here's my question, though, and it's nothing against this attraction. What's the story with women doing sexy poses in front of the cathedral? I don't get it. It's not a club. So many women stand in front of La Parroquia and do the sexiest poses they can for a photo. Ladies.... it's a CHURCH, not a club!!!

For people watching there is hardly a place more enjoyable and entertaining. Food vendors surround the Centro, mariachi bands play for couples and groups, street vendors have something for everyone-literally stacking/hanging hundreds of items on theirs heads and/or a bamboo pole.

Friday and Saturday nights are packed with locals and numerous young adults and families from Mexico City. Others arrive to attend one of many weekend weddings at the area's main attraction-La Parroquia de San Miguel Arcángel. This two hundred plus year old church is a marvel to view, visit, respect, and admire. As the church serves as centerpiece for the Centro, you can have breakfast, lunch, or dinner at one of dozens of restaurants lining the Centro or within a one block walk.

Our visit from PV was a huge weather respite. The church is an architectural beauty and I'm really glad we had a chance to view it inside and out, as there were no services ongoing at the time.

I was a bit surprised by the visitors who were taking photos, since there was a sign requesting no photographs posted at the entry.

It truly is a wonderful site to see and if you are in the Catholic faith, it will be very special. I particularly liked the statue of St. Patrick.

Everyone comes to El Jardin and the Plaza in front of the Parroquia. Mexican life is before your eyes. Take a seat on a park bench and watch SMA life. Children playing in El Jardin, people milling around taking family or romantic photos, New Year's Eve musical events happen in the Plaza in front of the Parroquia. The Church itself is lovely inside and the public is welcome. When you are done watching the goings on, go down any street branching off from this area and find an great restaurant to eat in or gorgeous shops to browse.

This parish church is named after St Michael the Archangel, the patron saint of the city. It is it's most famous sight with it's pink sandstone color and wedding cake towers with arched windows. It dates back to the 17th century altho the facade was redone in 1880 to give it it's European fairy-tale architecture. There. were weddings going on the afternoon we were there so did not really get to explore the inside. But what a jewel to see.

San Miguel's iconic landmark is beautiful during the day, but at night it glows with majesty. Just outside the church is the Jardin which is always lively with Mariachi bands, vendors, and all manner of celebrations. A delightful place to visit.

This church, with its pink wedding cake towers, was designed by stonemason Zeferino Gutiérrez in the late 19th century. He was building an addition to the original church that dated to the 1600’s.

According to local lore, Gutiérrez, who had no architectural training, based the design on a postcard of a Belgian church. He instructed workers by scratching plans in the sand with a stick.

The interior is every bit as colorful and spectacular with unusual saint statues and depictions of Christ.

The Church is the center of San Miguel, and no trip there is complete without visiting it. Due to the angle of the sun during the winter months, the sun never shines directly on the front. Therefore, it is more beautiful at night. Near the square you will find all of the best restaurants, shops, and art galleries. The main garden in front of the Church was closed due to the pandemic.

Beautiful church and easily accessible. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic we were not able to enter the church but it was still beautiful to behold from the outside. Taking pictures at night and in the morning are recommended as both offer different perspectives on the architecture.
