- BellBoys60625Chicago, Illinois230 contributionsUnique Gallery and Shopping VenueThe Fabrica is an easy walk from the main square and is a great repurposed space from a former textile mill. You can easily spend half a day here visiting galleries, meeting the local artists and having a cup of coffee in the courtyard. This is great way to experience Mexican contemporary art among a casual environment.Visited December 2022Written December 22, 2022
- AbiHouston, Texas6 contributionsEclectic collection of art galleriesLarge complex of art galleries. Tastefully done. Mostly paintings but also furniture, curio’s and Knick knacks. All a bit overpriced. A bit of a walk from the central city but worth the trip. The restaurant is very crowded. There is a wine tasting room which we didn’t visitVisited December 2022Traveled as a coupleWritten December 28, 2022
- Alex AAustin, Texas4 contributionsA must do for art lovers. If you enjoy art, this is definitely a place you want to include in your SMA trip. There are a lot of really cool and interesting art pieces. The grounds are pretty and we enjoyed watching the artist working on their pieces while we were there. You can also find vendors selling home furnishings.Visited December 2022Written January 5, 2023
- Travelling folksLangley City, Canada167 contributionsNever expected thisWow and wow again. This place is huge and so many things to see and purchase. Gallery after gallery of beauty all housed in 1 building. Did I say the building is Huge and very nicely laid out. We spent hours just walking around and wishing we could take home many items. Next time I’m bringing my truck… No disappointments here.Visited February 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten February 3, 2023
- Tracy C3 contributionsFabrica La Aurora is a don’t missThis place is a gem. We strolled for several hours through the many galleries and artist studios filled with art and sculptures. It’s a beautiful setting with a great vibe. Enjoyed lunch in the cafe, too.Visited February 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten February 14, 2023
- PojockIndianapolis, Indiana67 contributionsGalleries galoreThere is a lot of art in San Miguel. But in the Fabrica La Aurora you get to see many different galleries, as well as meet many of the artists themselves. A lovely use of the old factory.Visited February 2023Written February 21, 2023
- Donna LNew York City, New York33 contributionsDelightful afternoonWalk or taxi to Fabric La Aurora for an experience to delight your visual senses. Filled with artists, studios, stores and a terrific explanation of the textile factory that was once the mainstay of San Miguel, complete with the old machines on display in various places. So much to see here!Visited February 2023Written March 7, 2023

- D DHouston, Texas107 contributionsBest Place to Visit !!Best Place to Visit ! We enjoyed this afternoon and if we had more time would go back again. The old factory turned galleries is just impressive . We enjoyed seeing the old equipment in place. Each space was like going into another story … a different artist or combination of artist .. The flora and Fauna here were also beautiful . I don’t even think we saw the entire space . We did enjoy a glass of wine and a cookie ( as kitchen closed ) on the patio cafe . So much to look at . The highlight was a visit and introduction to Lucas Rise in the Rise Studio , along with his lovely wife and son. We enjoyed that very much and purchase a one of a kind handbag from his collection. It was an anniversary gift I will cherish as we were able to spend time with him discussing how he creates such amazing art in fabrics , furniture , and more. Thank you for spending time to share your story with us. I would consider this a place you should not miss if your in the area. You will find it very unique .Visited April 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten April 27, 2023

The history of Fabrica La Aurora is very interesting and they've done a good job of highlighting the building's treasures. But unless you're really into shopping, it can be a pretty overwhelming visit. We walked around for about 45 minutes and then we were done. But you could spend HOURS there. We just don't love shopping enough to wander for that long.

Located less than 15 minutes north of the downtown, this complex has a multitude of artisans to peruse. Unfortunately, except for a couple stores with clothing accessories: jewelry and pocketbooks, most of the art work was dark and depressing. One exception: the use of gold by some artists to render spectacular paintings reflecting Aztec and Mayan theology. Other than that, one hour is sufficient to go thru the complex and get back into town

From Centro San Miguel it is a quick cheap taxi ride. The old textile mill has been tastefully remodeled for numerous art galleries with a variety of talented artists represented. The best venue to see so much in one locale. The main cafe was very busy and if we'd been hungry would have eaten there.

Are we really going to compare art in Asheville and SMdA? The River District is mostly newbies and most not at the level of SMdA artists. Asheville downtown galleries are very expensive and almost at SF Bay Area prices. I have shopped both SMdA and Asheville have pieces from each in my homes. Yes, BOTH are expensive for most people, for sure. But jeez, SMdA kills it when it comes to discovering new and different art that we can afford. I will take a couple hour flight any day to buy art in SMdA rather than drive a few hours up to Asheville. We shop every gallery we can in the USA and just purchased a large piece of art from a gallery in Nashville, so we're trying but we mostly find art in SMdA. We just came back from art buying trip to CDMX/Guadalajara and found a sculpture at Sergio Bustamante but didnt see anything else we liked. One thing about SMdA is that you dont need to walk far from one district to another looking for art. Something to be said about that!

Love this rehab of the old fabric factory. Many great showrooms to visit with friendly staff. The outside/covered restaurant was a great place for a cocktail and snack, we were there during a big storm and the staff let us stay past the official closing time while we enjoyed watching the hail and rain under the metal roof. Its hard to judge many of these places as they are all just slowly reopening from COVID lockdowns but I can see where this wold be a viable arts venue as they return to the new normal.

I have to say that this place had some really awesome things. I guess I was not in the mood to spend so much money on the quality items that they had there. I would say this is not a tourist visit really, but more something for an art collector or someone looking for something expensive for their home. So on the upside… lots of amazing high-quality products. On the downside everything that I fell in love with was over $1000.

This location is refreshing and a far cry from the traditional mexican wares you find around town.
Filled with some great modern design it is an eclectic, friendly , informal environment full of young artisans.
Great interior design products, like lamps, carpets and pottery. And some more famous global art, as well as sculpture.
Worth a visit if you have the time. .

The art showrooms in this converted factory exhibited a pretty wide range of art. Some was really good, though we would probably disagree about which art we liked. It was definitely an interesting place to spend a few hours.

This complex was an old textiles factory that was a major employer in the area until 1991. It has since been converted into a major art space with dozens of art galleries showcasing local and international talent. It is set amongst beautiful buildings and grounds. There are also art classes available from some galleries. We spent a couple of hours here and there are restaurants as well in the precinct. This is a must visit if you love art in all its forms.

This is one of the few places we have found in the world where we could see truly creative design applied to arts and crafts, fine painting and sculpture, first-rate crafts, modern and antique furniture, lovely fabrics and clothing, ceramics, and many other art forms. What a treasure house of fine goods! Then we had lunch on the outdoor patio. Lovely!

We visited Aurora Saturday. My husband, David Lutton may have dropped his passport there. Could you ask around? Gracias, Louise Lutton
