About
Rancho de la Capilla is a 17th-century ranch 15 miles from San Miguel de Allende. We offer horseback rides from the ranch into the surrounding countryside. You will see herds of animals, ruins, panoramic vistas, migrating birds and the Presa Allende, a huge picturesque lake. After the ride you will relax on the terrace overlooking the Picacho Mountains and enjoy a local fruit drink.People always tell us this was the highlight of their trip

We thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Rancho de la Capilla. Starting with the stone entrance gate, the construction is amazing. It was established in the 17th century. The grounds and landscaping are beautiful, particularly the cactus. The chapel itself is amazing with ancient artwork on the ceiling.

Rancho de la Capilla was the highpoint of our vacation to San Migeul. Kathy and Steve are great, they opened their home to us like we were family. We were in a large group, ranging in age, and it was a great experience for all. Steve took the groups out riding, Kathy gave us a tour of the beautiful ranch, and we were cooked an authentic lunch. We ate on their patio with a beautiful view...and the food was delicious! The horses were great and the ride was catered toward experience.

Rancho de la Capilla was a highpoint in our 2 week stay in Guanajuato/San Miguel de Allende! The horseback riding delighted my 11 year old son, and Steve and Martin geared the ride to our needs. We rode past farms, through rivers and by the reservoir, getting a taste of the varied landscape. The rancho itself was fascinating! A 500 year old chapel sits on the property, along with other outbuildings, gorgeous cactus gardens and a beautifully designed main house compliments the character of the place. I spent the afternoon watching the light change in the sky from the spacious porch. The owners, Steve and Kathy, were gracious in every regard and I am already making plans to return. This is definitely a place to share with friends!

Want to experience the 'old frontier' Mexico? Visit Rancho de La Capilla outside San Miguel De Allende for a ride through the countryside on horseback that's geared to all levels of riders (my 3 friends were in no way horsepeople and hadn't done this before-and haven't stopped talking about it).
The countryside is rugged and stunning, and Steve the owner and our guide shared lots of interesting historical information as we quietly walked along (in deference to our beginners but also gave all of us time to soak in the scenery- he will accomodate a more challenging ride).
The historical buildings on the site are amazing and he has restored and constructed a beautiful hacienda (I think you can rent it) and will provide lunch if you wish.
The horses are quiet and well kept and the staff friendly and happy- that's says a lot about Rancho de La Capilla and its owners.
Don't miss this one!!

Wow...Rancho de la Capilla is a must see when you come to SMA. We visited Rancho de la Capilla with my family of 18 (ages 12 - 75 year old) and all had a blast. Kathy & Steve were so welcoming that we felt like part of their family visiting for Thanksgiving. Steve took our group riding and Kathy gave us a tour and history lesson. Lunch on their back porch was awesome, the scenery was beautiful and our hosts were spectacular!

Go visit...you will be glad you did.
