We had a wonderful time on the half-day ride in the canyon. Rodrigo is very good about matching horses to riders' abilities. He can also assess riding ability and since we had a small group of very good riders, we got to canter a lot. Horses are quite fit and well-cared-for, shod well. We also went on a "Cantina Ride" (before COVID) and enjoyed ourselves very much. We highly recommend buying photos of your ride from Rodrigo. He is a very good photographer and uses a drone and other means to get wonderful photos.

It was a good half day of riding up and down a canyon. We go as a group, and before the ride starts, the leader give a brief lesson on riding technique and horse control. The horses seemed well trained, and mine did not give me much trouble. It is good to have some experience riding a horse, as you maybe able to keep up with a canter and the ride down the canyon can be steep. The guide picked me up from Downtown San Miguel De Allende and we first rode to a ranch home to have lunch. After lunch, we drove to the Horse Ranch and started our ride. There are no bathrooms for the almost three hour ride, so be prepared for that. It seemed there was a good ratio of ranch hands to a rider. The ranch hands are on their own horses and keep an eye on you. But, in our group novices and experienced riders did fine. The instruction can be in Spanish or English. Wear long sleeved shirt and full pants as you ride through vegetation and can easily get scratched by branches. Watch out for some branches overhead, if you still tall in the saddle. The goal is to reach the top of a canyon from the river bottom, spend a few minutes resting and taking pictures. Some in the group rappelled down a cliff wall. After rest, the whole team rides down the canyon. This could be a bit scary as you are riding an animal, but I had little problems. The horses are pretty sure footed. At the end of the ride, you are given an option to buy pictures and videos taken during the ride and taken back to downtown, where one is picked up. It was a thrilling ride that I enjoyed.
