It's just a beautiful little harbour, unspoiled with a few art galleries and eating places, ( you need to book ahead at this time for food).
You can join the coastal path from the harbour for a scenic walk along the cliffs, go left up the steps (looking out to sea) and you will arrive at the Blue Lagoon. Visit but don't spoil it.

Quite surprised first time I visited. The brick works were unexpected but good for photos. Good place to start or finish a cliff walk. Decent size car park and clean facilities.
Would like to have tried the pub but was travelling alone and chickened out - maybe next year as I intend to return. I believe it is essential to book in season.

On recommendation we visited Porthgain and thoroughly enjoyed the day. It epitomises tranquillity and has lots of places to park, watch and relax. The Shed Bistro and Sloop Inn cater nicely for visitors

A couple we met while on holiday in Fishguard recommended a visit to Porthgain, and we were not disappointed. Our only limitations were that we use Rollator walking frames so could not climb the cliff paths. The brickworks and history were a surprise and very interesting.

Visited here as part of a tour of Pembrokeshire. Whilst there are some nice shops and pleasant looking cafés, there wasn’t much else happening. Good views from on top of the hillside, but there are nicer views in Pembrokeshire.

We stayed in our motorhome nearby and managed a 5 mile circular route from the campsite along the very scenic coastal path via Porthgain. Historic brick works here appatently with a nearby old quarry (Blue Lagoon).

Incredible spot for a walk. Very peaceful. Lovely to listen to the sea hitting the harbour walls and see the fishing boats bobbing around. Didn’t expect to see the amazing remains in the hillside. Set in a sheltered inlet this was once a busy port where slate, brick and granite were shipped from the local quarry.
Today the main industry is tourism, and there are a number of galleries, cafes and pubs within a stone’s throw of the harbour. But there are still plenty of reminders of the ports more industrial days.
At low tide there is a small sandy beach here which, being in a harbour, is very sheltered. This is a wonderful spot. Would definitely return again if in the area.

Porthgain harbour is a lovely place to start a walk the cost left towards st Davids and right towards Fishguard
The harbour was once a working slate and brick quarry with materials being exported over the world. The coast line here is dramatic and Atlantic grey seals are common in the coves with their pups easily seen on the rocky coves
There is free car parking here also.

Located on the Pembrokeshire coastal path Porthgain provides a variety of entertainments - if you want exercise then climbing the cliffs on either side to visit the beacons used for locating the entrance to the harbour will open up superb views - for the more studious there is so much history to explore - the slate works, brickworks and lime kiln around the little tidal harbour, designed with gates to keep the boats afloat during the low tides and its own rail line to transfer the roadstone from the hopper to the boats. There is also an art gallery and two excellent hostelries, the Shed and the Sloop - something for everyone!

Hi,
Really fancy stopping a couple of nights here to explore, but not many lets for a couple & a dog. We like to be close to a cosy pub for the evening so nothing to secluded. Where would
be best to stay? We have looked at Trefin but is there much there and how far is it from Porthgain harbour?
