Portions are massive and good value.

Well, they are if you appreciate your food served by staff who routinely pet dogs, let dogs lick them, take their pictures and return to food prep. Even if they boiled their hands in bleach afterwards, this is not my idea of food hygiene. Along with aprons that need to make acquaintance with a washing machine occasionally.

Aside from that, food is homely, large portions, cheap and cakes look delicious. Dig deeper though, and you'll find that leftovers are used in almost everything - squashed up digestives, cake crumbs and multicoloured sprinkles making the "crumble" in fruit crumble. No hint of butter, flour and sugar that you'd usually expect in crumble. Perhaps they do it differently in Blyth.

The decor is "shabby chic" and pretty but there's not many seats and the dining area is uncomfortably hot and stuffy.

Staff are, for the most part, friendly and chatty. But don't bother complaining about anything (wrong order, anyone?) because they immediately turn defensive and a teensy bit scary. And there's no need to tell me "that's ice cream" on the top of the crumble when I query that it's supposed to be custard. I know it's ice cream; I've been eating the cold stuff for over 40 years.

I'm just getting used to this new fashion of allowing dogs in eating areas. And I think I'm OK with it now, as long as they're well behaved and under the table. Staff interacting with them and then making my food? No thanks.

This review is about the cafe hidden at the back of Ridley Park, Blyth. Lovely home made food, nicely presented - we had lasagne and quiche, both well balanced with just the right amount of chips and salad, a delicious apple & ginger cake and good Italian coffee. Pleasant sunny outlook over the park. Although there was a well behaved dog with its owners in the cafe, there were none of the issues that have bothered some other reviewers. Highly recommended.

First of all, I need to say this . . . . . some of the comments left by previous customers seem a million miles away from the experience I had earlier today and I would ignore them, completely.

I am a cyclist, a keen one and do quite a few miles per week on my bike.

This morning I was out soon on the bike (5.15am) and I think it was somewhere around 10.30am when I was getting hungry so as I was passing through Blyth on my way to Bedlington I stopped off at Mr Ridleys. When I got there and was locking my bike up before going inside, the Gentleman was outside and immediately started chatting. He was friendly and welcoming. I went in and received a lovely, warm, friendly greeting and asked what would I like. I never looked at a menu, I said "do you do bacon sandwiches please" "Yes, I will make you one straight away" the Lady said. There was a very large selection of gorgeous looking cakes on the counter and also in big chiller cabinets and lots of different scones and pastries and other things. I said "I'd love some cake as well please (It's a cyclist thing, we always eat cake haha). I decided on Orange and chocolate cheesecake. I had coffee as well. The food and coffee was lovely, the people working in Mr Ridley's were extremely pleasant to me, the surroundings were fab and even the music that was playing was spot on, old classics from the 60's. Next time I am cycling through Blyth I am definitely calling in again and I would recommend the Cafe' to anybody.

Been here loads of times as it is only a few mile away from my home and for some reason did not realise I have never left a review ?? This park is a FULL day out with the kids as there is plenty to do especially on a hot day as the kids play for hours in the water pipes and the two parks. There is a cafe open in season, the food is lovely and very good value for money, and there are usually bouncy castles etc: for a small cost, also ice cream van. It is a lovely well maintained park always clean and well looked after. there are toilet facilities right by the water pipes so no mile hike and no need to round up all the kids as its so close you can still look out for them

We travel a few miles to come here. There is a variety of play areas for different age children. All appear well maintained. Also a fairly new looking toilet block, which appeared clean when we used it. A water park as well, who can complain. On top of that there is Mr Ridleys coffee shop. Well worth a visit

Went to have lunch with my grandson today (2years old) asked for a cup of water for him only to be told I had to buy a bottle of water for him as they don’t serve tap water because their prices are so cheap. I’ll take my own drinks to the park (which is lovely) next time. It’s not the money but the plastic bottle that bothers me.
They’ve lost a customer over a glass of water, so shortsighted.
