Montaribaldi
About
Tradition and innovation. This is the oxymoron on which the Montaribaldi company grounds its great success. Founded in 1968 in the very heart of Barbaresco by Giuseppe Talliano and his wife, it was then taken over in 1994 by their sons Luciano and Roberto. Now the whole family is running it, brewing with passion the best quality wines while always respecting the oldest traditions. As matter of fact, in the last few years, the company has decided to bet on innovation without changing its best traditions. It is exactly that which makes the company able to continuously improve the quality of their wines, while always promoting their land. Such careful management, along with the favorable climate conditions, the richness of its soil, the implementation of new biodynamic techniques, the accurate selection of wines and the careful vinification let Montaribaldi obtain a wide range of excellent, unique wines which are appreciated all over the world and which have become a clear example of the “glocal” philosophy.

Antonella is a lovely host with a great passion for the family company. She gave us a tour and explained how the wine is made, where the vineyards are etc. Then we tasted their lovely wines, accompanied with some bread sticks and water. We had a great visit and feeled very welcome. If you’re interested in wine (especially nebbiolo, barbaresco, barbera and barolo), you should visit Montaribaldi!

We had an amazing time touring and wine tasting at Montaribaldi. Antonella was a welcoming, gracious host. Our tour was informative and comprehensive, as well as laid-back and comfortable. We enjoyed ourselves immensely.

Visited this winery and received a tour of the facility and had a incredible wine tasting of many of their wines. Antonella, our host was exceptional!! She enlightened us with thorough information on the Piedmont wine region, their wines and the various grape varietals! This is one of the best wine tastings my husband and I have ever experienced!! (and we've visited many wineries around the world). An absolute must do when visiting this area!

Nice view along their vineyards while tasting.
Friendly staff (despite we were one hour late and ruined thus her lunch break). We asked in advance only to taste red wines and this was no problem at all.
Before us, there were 5 friends tasting wines and I was as tourist ashamed. They were enjoying their wines but didn't buy a single bottle. If you do like their wines, buy them. If everybody does like them, wine tastings are forced to increase their prices for tasting even more. Let their business model be to sell wine, not to be a bar.

We were 8 adults wanting to taste some Piemonte wine, and found this winery on Tripadvisor. We knew that we were close to lunch hours, during which they would be closed. But Antonella was very kind and spent 1,5 hours with us. Since only 6 of us were going to taste, she told us about and let us taste more than the normal 4 wines. We tasted the brut first, before a chardonnay and a rosato. After that we tasted a Dolcetto, a Barbaresco (the queen) and a Barolo (the king). We also tasted their Moscato, and finally Antonella brought out 3 different kinds of grappa. So about 10 different wines :-) We were very happy with this, of course, and can definitely recommend this place to everyone who wants to learn about and taste Piemonte wine!

This cantina is located opposite the Osteria Taste, 3 km away from the city center of Barbaresco.

A parking is in front of the house.

We wanted to visit this cantina because we drank a bottle of their Barbaresco red wine.

We tried to find the entrance which took some time.

We rang the bell of the office with the name of Cantina.

A lady opened the door and told us that she is unable to speak English.

Thanks God my friend is an English teacher.

From the back side we got shown the wine yards and information about the different grapes.

Outside the building you can see several metal wine tanks.

Then we were entering the wine shop which is also the room for wine tasting.

The look of that room is very basic.

The tasting will be charged with 8,00 € per person!

For this price you will be allowed to taste 4 different wines.

At the wall was a quite small rack with wine bottles to sell.

On the table was a spittoon.

Now the surprise came.

While putting a very small amount of wine in our glasses, the glasses were not exchanged for the different wines!

Try to imagine that you drink white wine and then red wine out of the same glass!

2 times out of 4 times the Italian lady has poured another different sort of red wine into the glass where still a rest of the former wine was on the bottom of the glass.

From our experiences and ability to compare wines - also in Barbaresco - the majority of the offered wines were of average quality!

Despite of that we bought 5 bottles of wine.

Then I went to the toilet. Guess what, the fluid soap out of the super market for a price of less than 1,00 € was extended with water!!

I cannot recommend this cantina!

Montaribaldi is located on top of a hill, on the outskirts of Barbaresco. It is a family-run winery, with parents, children and the in-laws all pitching in in all aspects of the wine production and sale. Our visit was most pleasant. We were welcome on the terrace that overlooks the valley, and acres and acres of vineyards. It was a sunny and warm afternoon, with a mild breeze cooling us under a tarp. The winery produces 3 Barbarescos, one Barolo, 3 Barberas, one Nebbiolo, one Dolcetto, one Niculin, one Arneis, two Chardonnays, one Rose, an excellent sparkling wine, two sweet wines and several Grappas. We tasted most of them, except for the grappas. Montaribaldi produces pleasant wines, easy to drink and not expensive.

We came in late afternoon just before closing time without reservation. The staff was kind and accommodating and told us to wait a moment to see if they had time. Some minutes after Antonella came out and offered us a wine tasting. She gave us a guided tour to the cellar before the tasting of their wines. We got some breadsticks and cheese with jam to the wines. Antonella was very serviceminded and she explained everything about the wines.
Their wines are very tasting and we tasted five-six wines and three grappas. We bought wines for over 50€ and got the wine tasting offered.
We can definitely recommend the cantina for others.

The wines were lovely, and they had a great selection. The views from the vineyard were magnificent and they offered us some home made snacks!

We rented bikes and had no plans. So we ended up at Montaribaldis and it was the highlight of our trip. We got a complete tour and tasting. We ended up buying some bottles of wine because it was really good.
