The Badal Mahal Gate is a different site altogether with no Mahal or palace connected to it. This gate served the purpose of welcoming and grandly honouring the state guests.
In this structre we seenThe ornaments carving onminiature arched facades v geometric motifs. Also The jaalis of four separate patterns & The two floral roundels on the gate.
In this historic area only boundary wall, Gate & garden area to see only. Within 15-20 minutes take time to see these things.
Ticket- Ticket applicable
Parking - Free for all, proper parking space on roadside
Camera - Ticket applicable
Must Know - near by area shops , you can easily purchase fast food, water bottle etc.
Situated near the Jama Masjid, Badal Mahal Darwaza or Badal Mahal Gate was constructed by Sultan Mehmood Shah Khilji, the King of Malwa, in the 15th century to commemorate his victory in one of his many military campaigns.
The Badal Mahal complex is enclosed by an old fort-like structure towards the front and sides.
A straight paved path flanked by beautifully landscaped gardens and lawns from the entrance lead to the tall and imposing Badal Mahal. They remind you of the Mughal gardens that one sees at the Taj Mahal and other Mughal monuments including the likes of Qutub Minar .

One of the most charachteristic features of medieval Chanderi, it was built by the foreign invader Mahmud Shah Khilji in 1450. It was meant as a welcoming gate for the foreign visiting dignitaries, as a triumphal archway. The Islamic kings were fond of making such archways, as is evident at many other places in India.
It is situated in the inner town, surrounded by fort walls, and well-manicured gardens. What struck me most was the striking background of the fort which makes for a beautiful backdrop. It is built entirely of stone, hence more of a marvel, it is 15 meter high. The jali works in the brackets joining the upper turrets is marvelous. Not a place to miss in Chanderi. It made my day.

Whenever we talk about Chanderi, we will find first picture as Badal Mahal. Actually it is not a palace, as per its name but its status is very high, It is mainly a beautifully carved & designed gateway inside a complex. From outside, it looks as if we are entering into a palace building but from inside, we will find a large garden area with lush green grass and Badal Mahal gate as the main attraction of the complex. In past, when VIP guests visits Chanderi, they were formally welcomed here thus its importance is very high. During Chanderi sightseeing, tourists should must visit this place and take photographs. We can visit this place in daytime and it is just close to Jama Masjid. Approach road is good, can be reached by car or bus, but after passing through congested local fruit & vegetable market. Hiring guide for Chanderi local sightseeing is highly recommended as variety of monuments are scattered over large area, in very good condition. Without proper knowledge, we may miss important places.

I had seen photos of the gateway and heard it's inside Badal Mahal so as I entered the rather impressive entrance surrounded by a thick wall I was expecting a lot.
It's a garden enclosed by a wall with broad ramparts on which local boys were strolling, playing etc.
In the centre is a tank with the gateway behind it.
The gateway is indeed impressive and sin e it doesn't take too much time it's worth visiting for the quaintness of the Darwaza
it's a stand alone and probably built as a victory arch

Good spot to cover on your trip to Chanderi. Gardens are maintained and offers relams from Chanderi's traffic and bustling.
It sits right at foot hills of Chanderi fort.
