Cannot recommend this trip highly enough. We saw crocodiles, dolphin, turtles, osprey, flamingo, cormorants and a while host of other wildlife I cannot remember the names of. Our guide Alex was superb, very knowledgeable and entertaining. The snorkeling was incredible, the village stop and food was great and all of us had an excellent time. A full and long day of wonder and excitement. Our teenage kids absolutely loved this. People complaining about bumpy roads and trees etc? Maybe you should stay home?

We booked onto this tour as a friend was keen to go - she told us it was a boat trip. It was only the day before this trip that I read the TA reviews and saw the details about how long it took to get to the boat. Friend then contacted Croco Runners who said we would be on the road for 1.5 hours to get there. This turned out to be a load of rubbish. We were picked up from the hotel and transported to Tulum (25 mins trip), we were dropped off at a scruffy looking cafe where a different guides and tour operators argued about who owed what with the guests. After half an hour or so we were directed to our transport - military style jeeps with no sides. There were several nationalities of guests and our guide spoke very good English, Spanish, German, French and Italian. That was about the only good thing about him. I can't recall his name as I have tried to erase the day from my memory. But he was quite condescending and patronising as well as dangerous. He urged everyone to ditch their suncream and buy a lycra gasket mask from him - I kid you not! I understand the trouble the reefs have, they are eroding and all over the Americas people are being urged to wear biodegradable creams instead, which is fair enough. This guy actually said that sunscreen CAUSES cancer as well as destroys reefs. I couldn't take him seriously after that, but I tried to enjoy the trip anyway. The 2 hours journey to the reserve was the most horrendous of the holiday - bumpy, dirty, potholes all over, hot and horrible. We were given a small bottle of water each by our guide (I noticed he drank several himself from.plastic bottles, I would have thought he'd have re-usable drinks bottles given his so-called concern for the planet). We stopped for some kind of primitive traffic lights for about 20 mins until our guide gave water to the road workers and then we miraculously moved on. So it was almost 2.5 hours later that we reached the bio-spehere. For a protected reserve, I couldn't believe the state of the place. Nappies, wipes, bottles, food packets etc were strewn all over the place. I'd have thought a reserve should have someone to clear this up? It was like the aftermath to Coachella! Horrible. We were taken to our little speedboat, the driver didnt introduce himself. We set off across the lagoon, expecting all sort of wildlife. Saw a couple of pelican-type birds. A couple of dolphins appeared so the fleet of speedboat (6 or 7 of them) hered the dolphins until they were enclosed, all for a quick photo. It felt cruel to me. Same with the turtle. Got off the boat for a snorkel, we couldn't keep up with the driver as we were fairly inexperienced so we missed most of the reef - we were ushered back to the boat after 15 mins. Then we headed out to a lagoon which was very nice, had a warm beer which was very welcome by that point. Lunch was at a nice restaurant in a village, simple food but still tasty. There was absolutely nothing else in the village apart for this bar, yet inexplicably we stayed there for at least an hour after lunch before setting off again. Then it was back to the bumpy road for the return trip. So to sum up, we had about 6 hours on the road inc transfers to Tulum. We were in the boats about an hour ish and the restaurant a bit longer. Definitely not a day out I would recommend, left me wishing I'd never even heard of it!

We are so sorry to hear about your experience, however this was not one of our tours. We do not offer jeep tours to Sian Kaan and we do not currently have a guide that speaks all the languages you mentioned. So this was definitely not one of our tours. Next time you want to visit Sian Kaan contact us!
