My husband and I did a Cavern Tour with ProTec in Tulum... it was absolutely awesome!! Elliot was our guide for 3 full days (2 dives a day) and showed us 6 beautiful cenotes! He taught us some caverns skills and the history of the area. It was my first time cavern diving and he made sure I felt safe and comfortable the whole time. Elliot is very knowledgable and we are so thankful for all that he taught and showed us!! The whole ProTec operation is very reputable, safe, and organized! We stayed at The BaseCamp for the nights we were in Tulum and it was perfect... it has everything you need and is walking distance to many restaurants. Additionally, we traveled during covid-19 and felt very safe in the shop and around the whole city. I would certainly recommend ProTect to anyone wanting to explore the cenotes in Tulum!!

Protec is honestly the best dive operation I have encountered. Their wealth of knowledge is truly invaluable if you aspire to improve your diving. Elliot is an excellent guide/instructor/human. My wife is not a tech diver or adventurous type of diver and Protec made her feel so safe and secure that she spent around 6 hours in cenotes and truly enjoyed it. If you’re reading this, just go with Protec for your shop while in Tulum. You will not be disappointed and will leave a better diver. I’ll be coming back for Full Cave as soon as I can get back to Tulum. Our visit was around the first week of August 2020 and Mexico is taking the coronavirus very seriously. We felt safe. It was a great time to visit as well because All the cenotes are empty!!

I have now dove with ProTec on 3 trips (my most recent being in NYE 2020) in both Playa Del Carmen and Tulum and I can say that this is the most professional and just awesome staff have dove with, in any situation. Firstly they are super professional and cater to people who really want to learn tec diving, and do it safely. There will be no easy pass here. Secondly, the level of friendly is just amazing. The first day I stayed in Tulum everybody was like 'Hey Matt, what is up' as though I was family. Those little things really add up. Thirdly, they are really diligent on the theory and setup to make sure you are super safe and comfortable. Fourthly. They are a shop that caters to a rate of your own skills, and not a prescript number of days. What this means is that 'intro to xyz' will be passed when you have all the skills, not a specific number of days. For me this was great as I was a slower mover and needed more attention from being away from diving for so long. Fifth. You might read this elsewhere. But they have really have some magical coffee in their shops. The playa del carmen shop is the older shop and the Tulum one (which this review is for) is really the bumping one at this time. They even have a bare bone set of rooms above the shop called the 'base camp' which is quite great. Affordable rooms with their own bathrooms and a shared kitchen. You literally can wake up at 7:55 and be at the shop by 8:00 am if you want to. I have only used them in the capacity of training and fun/training (i.e. some training mixed with fun dives). However when I become cave certified I will absolutely use them as guides. 2020 has thrown a monkey wrench in the world, but this is one business I would put on the top of my list to to support.

From the moment you walk in you realize you’re in a different type of dive shop. You feel the professionalism and the excellence that this place brings. To begin with they have a great retail shop that includes everything you may need or want. Secondly their fill shop is top notch and they can fill everything from air to Trimix. But all of this doesn’t even begin to describe how great the staff is. Everyone from the logistical staff to the instructors make you feel like you are home and show an interest in you. They truly care about you and do all the little things to make you family and want to come back. You simply can not do any wrong here. Trust me Protec Tulum is the best shop not only in Tulum but probably the world. I cant wait to go back

I just returned from another fantastic trip with ProTec. I could not ask for better treatment than what I received. Kim, Jaime, Tamara, Skanda, and Nelson were all professional, knowledgable, and great to deal with. (As were Jakob and Atura from their sister company, ProRec) Since my last visit, ProTec finished Basecamp - 3 double and 3 single rooms on the second floor. I stayed in a single room. It was small but very clean and comfortable with a queen bed, wall desk, plenty of storage, a charging station, a safe, and a bathroom. There was a community kitchen with utensils, stove, refrigerator, and food storage containers. At the top of the stairs was an outdoor sitting area which was perfect for meals, your favorite refreshment, and socializing after a day of diving. My purpose for this trip was cenote diving and I was not disappointed. I made 13 dives at 7 sites over 7 days. Some sites were on the main roads, some were a 20 minute drive off the beaten path and one required a small hike in the jungle. All were spectacular. My guides, Tamara and Jaime, did a super job in giving me cave choices to consider each day. Also they knew the caves and gave me several navigational options to consider before each dive. Every day began with gas analysis in the shop. At the dive site, predive communication consisted of equipment matching, testing, and location, air pressures, turn pressures, line placements, directional marker usage, what to expect and more. They asked other teams about their plans too. In other words, we were all on the same page prior to diving. ProTec is located in town and probably a 5 minute walk to the main street and a lot if restaurants. If you are a cave diver, ProTec will tend to your needs.
