Visit Sian Ka'an provided us a wonderful adventure in Cancun. Aldo, our guide, was excellent and is clearly passionate about the area and the biosphere. He is knowledgeable and has a great eye for spotting wildlife. He is a wonderful captain and I felt safe at all times, especially when we were zooming through the canals. The biosphere is beautiful and it is such a pleasure to go somewhere so quiet and peaceful. We did a snorkeling trip on a catamaran and it felt like we were snorkeling in rush hour. The trip to Sian Ka'an was exactly the opposite. Although we were not able to snorkel as the water was too choppy, we did see crocodiles and many birds. Sadly, we did not see manatees but it was not from lack of trying on Aldo's part. The Mayan canal float was outstanding! We all loved it and it was the highlight of the trip. One of my friends is not fond of the water and even she enjoyed. I booked this trip online, rather than through the hotel, and was a bit concerned about whether it was reliable given that the payment is through PayPal to a person's email address. However, Katrin was always responsive and clear. She arranged for transport from Cancun to the biosphere and it was a treat to have our own minibus. I would agree with the comments about the snacks being great and the fruit being delicious. I really appreciated Katrin following up after the trip to hear how it was, whether we had a good time, and if we had any recommendations. My only regret is that we only did the Mayan canal float once - i would have loved to do it a second time. I thoroughly endorse this tour!

First the good stuff... Aldo and his assistant were absolutely amazing. So knowledgeable, friendly, enjoyable, and both spoke excellent English. They provided us with light wraps to cover our legs. Definitely wear longs sleeves, hats (that don't blow off!), and water shoes. Our guides also covered their faces with masks to protect from the sun since you aren't supposed to wear sunscreen in the biosphere water. The cold drinks and mangos they brought along were wonderful. The tour started out with boating around the lagoon to spot birds, crocs, and manatees. We found all three! Then out to a beach where the lagoon joins the ocean. Unfortunately the water was too choppy for snorkeling over the reef that day, but I saw the snorkel gear on board in case it would've worked out. Then we boated down the canals, which felt like an amusement park ride- Aldo was so skilled with the turns. We stopped for lunch & then walked the boardwalk to where you start the Mayan canal float. This was everyone's favorite part. Crystal clear water, gorgeous scenery, relaxing float on life jackets back to the boat. Then off to bird island (instead of snorkeling) where we spotted so many amazing birds. Aldo really gets close so you can take great pictures. Truly a spectacular experience! Highly recommend!! My kids said it was their favorite part of our trip. Now the not as good... I really, really wanted to leave a 5 star review for Aldo, but I have to knock off one star for his office assistant Katrin. My email exchanges with her prior to the tour were incomplete and left me with a sketchy feeling such that I questioned whether this tour was a scam. That's not a good feeling for your customers to have! Katrin needs to answer emails quicker and more thoroughly, the company needs to have a more credible looking method of payment (not a personal paypal account for someone named Claudia), and the communication between Katrin and Aldo needs improvement. We are vegetarians and Katrin assured us we would have a lunch option, but Aldo never received that message and we only had mango for lunch as the tamales contained chicken. We had brought some of our own snacks, but we were very hungry by the end. Lastly, she told us to meet at the Mayan Arch, but not knowing the area, I wasn't sure if that was the entrance on the west or the east and we almost went to the wrong place (the arch is on the east side along the ocean road toward Punta Allen). Aldo mentioned that you can send him messages on WhatsApp and I would recommend you do that instead of working with Katrin.

We had to make some changes to our booking and were unfortunately unable to attend this tour, but were so impressed with the customer service of this company - super helpful and professional. So bummed we couldn't make it on the tour but I am sure based on the customer service experience that it would be super professional and very rewarding.

If you're looking to get the real deal and learn from someone knowledgable about the area, this is the tour for you. Aldo's a pro and you can tell he's really passionate about preserving and understanding the importance of the biosphere. Someone had previously written a review that this is much more than your average tour and that's the absolute truth. Aldo took great care to make sure there was ample shade for us, and even stocked up on cold beverages. Unfortunately, the conditions were a little windy so we didn't get to go snorkeling, but we did get to check out the lagoon, see manatees, crocodiles and so many different kinds of birds. Floating the Mayan Canal was also a great experience-- it was like a natural lazy river!

This was my favorite activity of my time in Tulum. You hire a boat to take you out across the lake and then you put on a life vest as a diaper and float through the most incredible water!
