We had a group of 8 doing this tour and it was excellent. Unfortunately we didn't get to go to the beach as it was closed, but the tour was still great. We first went to Tulum where our guide gave us a good overview and answered any questions we had. From there we drove to lunch close to the Coba ruins. We chose to have the tricycle tour where we were peddled to the various stops. Our tour guide from YalkuTours was also very knowledgeable about this stop as well. I will say that our tricycle driver was very quick to point out how little money he made and how few trips he was allowed to have per day because there are so may people providing the service. Our driver said he was only allowed 2 trips a day, but our friend's driver said he got 5 trips a day. I think we were being scammed! This was not a Yalku Tours employee and does not reflect on their company in my opinion. The cenote swim was amazing! The water was quite cold, but refreshing on a hot and humid day. From there we went back to our resort, which was only a few minutes away. Wonderful day!

We began our day at 6:40am and was picked up in a nice clean comfortable van (you are able to leave your belongings in the van if you like and they will be safe and secure) at the Mayan Palace in Playa del Carmen. We made two more stops – picked up another couple and stopped to get our tour guide Pablo at a local convenience store…where we were given a banana, cookies and juice for breakfast. Pablo was very well educated in the local history and shared many interesting facts and stories with us. It was great that he “briefed” us prior to our arrival of what we would be seeing and various facts. Made the trip that much more interesting. The trip was approximately 2 hours to Chichen Itza – the road was straight and a lot of foliage. I have previously visited this site 10 years ago – so much has changed. There are now hordes of vendors inside and outside of the “park” selling their wares. They are not pushy though – just trying to make a living. You can no longer climb the pyramid nor walk among the “1000 column” posts. These have been robed off to preserve the sites – which is a good thing. Fortunately I have had the opportunity to see all of this up close years ago. Pablo provided us with a very interesting tour then set us free for 45 minutes to roam by ourselves. It definitely wasn’t enough time – so much to see. One needs to return and allow hours to roam the site. We were greeted back at the van with bottles of water and off we went to the Cenote Hubiku and lunch. The cenote was very nice. There are dressing rooms where you can change your clothes – you will be asked to take a shower prior to entering the Cenote. There were two men dressed up in the Mayan dress – you were able to pay to have your picture taken with them. The Cenote was large – the water cold, but a must to take a quick swim. Once you changed back into your dry clothes it was a quick walk over to the lunch buffet. The food was delicious and very plentiful. You could purchase a beer if you like – so bring small bills. Then it was off to tour Ek Balam. I have never been here and was very interested to learn more about this site that was at its height from 700 to 1,200BC. This site was “refound” in the 1980’s by some farmers. Currently the roads are not able to accommodate tour buses -  The site hasn’t been excavated extensively yet – but what has been found and preserved is unbelievable. You can roam the grounds freely, climb the pyramid to the top and look out over the canopy. The pictures I have seen online are exactly what you will see – up close! It was a long drive back to the Mayan Palace – but I’d do the trip again. Don’t forget to tip the tour guide and driver – they both worked very hard to give us all a great experience.

What a wonderful trip this was. Our guide Sergio, was absolutely wonderful and gracious. We got to Chichen itza and he was going to guide us for an hour, however, he stayed with us almost the whole time so we really got a lot of information about the ruins. The bus driver was great too. I highly recommend this company.

They sell you a package then don’t turn up. Chased the day before for a pick up time. No response despite chasing 3 times. One of the other tour operators in the lobby chased them for me. A pick up time then given. Arrived early waited an hour, they say you were not there. A complete scam company DO NOT BOOK

Booked through Trip Advisor, receive confirmation through a 2nd party, hotel pickup arrived on time and delivers us to a 3rd party who has no idea about our reservation, spent some time in the office while they tried to confirm we had a reservation. Finally get approved to board, then we are told that we have a basic package that doesn’t include everything that was promised on Trip Advisor, so it’s another $40 per person to get the all inclusive option. Super frustrated by this point, but didn’t come this far to have a disappointing trip, so we pay the additional fee. The excursion was fun once we finally boarded.

Loads of stalls selling anything you can possible want that has a link to Mexico. If you are after a bargain this is the place as there are so many stalls they are desperate to sell so haggle hard and be prepared to walk away as someone else will meet your price. The ruins are super duper. You can do it in less than an hour but we took 4 as it was so hot. Go early to avoid the 10am stampede from thousands of tour groups arriving. Try to pay in cash as well or it will take you longer to get tickets.

First, every tours success depends on the guide - so ask for Pablo, our guide, and Caesar, our driver. Great team. We are a family of five and rather than take a big group tour we got set up for a private group aboard one of their 12 passenger vans. The van was clean and in good order btw. The advantage is you stop and go when you want - the schedule can be flexible.

Chichen Itza is the more famous, but we enjoyed EkBalam more. There are no ropes to keep you back from the site so there is more to enjoy. But please don’t try bribing grandma to the top of the acropolis - you won’t get her down and you’ll slow up everyone...

Don’t balk when they tell you a 7am departure, you want to beat the rush to ChichenItza - the crowds can be crazy.

Oh and if you are planning on using a GoPro or taking video let your guide know in advance because they charge extra for it. Not a big deal (45pessos) and it helps support the archeological activities.

The tour guide was great. We really enjoyed the tour, until we arrived at the lunch buffet. Being very rural, I suggested to my girlfriend to be careful what we ate. We couldn’t resist the fresh fruit and salad and paid the price dearly. We both got sick. We just ran into a couple that were on the same tour and they both got sick as well. If you go on this tour bring your own food. The cenote was so much fun. Our guide Sergio was so knowledgeable and spoke great English. The history was so much more than any other tour I have been on. We really enjoyed the tour. It was 5 star aside from the dirty buffet.

It is a long day but so worth it if you are coming to this part of the world. Our guide Sergio was amazing. Whilst on the way to Chichen Itza he gave us a basic rundown of the whole Mayan civilisation and beliefs, myths etc which really helped us. The whole day he was extremely informative and we learned so much. Swimming in the cenote was amazing , make sure you pack your swimming costume. Very glad we did this tour.
