Unforgettable tour! For years we had dreamed of taking a trip to Mexico and so by pure chance we discovered Karmatrails on the web and, through the excellent Luca, travel design, we chose the 9-day color Mexico tour with a 7-day stay in Playa del Carmen. Here we arrived in Mexico City on February 28th and spent 3 days with the excellent guide Alma Rosa to discover the city and the great pyramids of the sun and the moon, then flight to Tuxhla Gutierrez and with the tireless José who made us both guide than driver! Chiapas with the best known sites, Palenque, Uxmal Chichen itza and the colonial cities of San Cristobal de las casas, Campeche, Merida, finally arrival in Playa del Carmen for a few days at the seaside. We did not need assistance because everything was planned down to the smallest detail Mexico is a great state and as we told Luca we don't rule out going back, never say never...

My husband came to Mexico in August 2020 when much of the world is still shut down due to COVID. We had booked a private tour of Coba and Tulum, with a stop at a Cenote, but due to the archeological areas still being closed via government order, we needed to change itineraries quickly. Antonello and Salvador were able to reorganize a day for us to see the turtles in Akumal (and do some snorkeling) and see the cenote. While it was not the archeological and historical day we were hoping for, Salvador made sure we had a fun day enjoying places in the Riveria Maya. We would use Karma Trails again when we come to the region to see the ruins of Tulum and Coba.

Salvador was our AMAZING tour guide - we had the best day exploring Tulum and going for a private swim in the cenote (we were the first visitors since the COVID shutdown, so we had the place all to ourselves!). His knowledge of the Yucatan, the wildlife, the history, everything about the region made the trip very memorable and extra special. I recommend this tour and Salvador to everyone visiting the peninsula and would hire him in a heartbeat for more adventures in beautiful Mexico. Thank you so much for an BEAUTIFUL day!

We are sorry that you couldn't visit Tulum ruins, which were supposed to be opened since Jun 8th. Anyhow, our guide Salvador did his best to le you spend a great day around Tulum and the Grand Cenote.

First of all, I want to clarify that I'm not rating the tour guide and the driver, they were both nice guys! But I rate karma trails as the tour seller. We were looking for a tour combining Rio lagartos and Ek Balam. Karma trails was more expensive than other sellers but we expected the higher quality due to the good ratings. We were also aware that this tour is long and include a lot of driving time but I liked the description of the offered by Karma trails, since it didn't have the usual "jump into a cenote" or other offers that we're not interested in. However, when we got picked up, we realized that it was a different company and that the tour included a part where you were supposed to cover yourself with clay all over and visit a "Mayan village" just to make people buy something. We have never gotten any information about which clothes/shoes to bring, all other participants have obviously been informed before and were aware of all details. Furthermore, we chose a tour starting in Playa del carmen, where we stayed, which started at 6.30am but we spent the first approx. 1h picking up other guests (we went as far as Tulum for that) which resulted in an additional car driving time of more than 3hrs for us, which is unacceptable. I would recommend anybody interested in this company to check in advance who will really execute the tour!
Furthermore it seems like the tour was actually planned for Italian speeking people only and they just added us to fill the free spaces. The tour guide did his best to translate everything for us but obviously that didn't work out very well and we missed quite a lot of information.

We have taken a couple of days to answer, because we had to review your complaints with our partner agency, in charge to operate the tours. We believe that a few clarifications are needed:
This excursion, as a few other that we propose as “Shares Tours”, are offered and operated together with local partners. This is not something to be hidden, but at the same time we believe that is not needed to specify, being us a travel agency;
You booked (through our web site), a “Group Tour”, which means that the participants could share transportation and guide service (in more than one language) with people staying in different hotels of the area You’ve been picked up in Playa del Carmen and the route to Rio Lagartos pass by Tulum, so our partner didn’t really need to fill the spaces. Maybe you should book the private version of this excursion, and you would have a vehicle entirely at your disposal, going strait from your hotel to the destination, and the same on the way back.
We apologize to didn’t inform you exactly which kind of clothes you had to bring, but we will promptly include this information in our web site.

Captain snake was very informative and fun. We felt safe especially being 3 girls traveling through Mexico alone! The trip was exclusive memorable & amazing. He took us to a private centoe away from the crowds and Covid. Would recommend

Alejandro from City Unscripted took us on this adventure. It was lovely. Absolutely. DO THIS. It was extremely relaxing and opened our eyes to a different kind of Mexico. We stayed in Coyoacan so went from there. Coyoacan, if you are going to Mexico City is THE place to stay

I was hugely disappointed to have my tour cancelled 2 hours before pick up at my hotel on the morning of my booked and confirmed tour. The tour was being changed to the afternoon when I had a conflict and the guide promised to see what he could do and would call me back in 5 min. I literally waited by my hotel phone for an hour before reaching out the the contact number to find out what my options were. What made it even worse is that the tour guide who called me then had reported that I had cancelled AND did not answer my phone when he called me back.
This was such a disappointment as I had very limited free time. I later saw the outside of the house but tickets are sold in advance and the lines are crazy long if you are not with a tour. Beware that a confirmation is not a guarantee of a tour time.

Let us comment that your opinion seems quite unfair and then explain the true circumstances of the case:
We receive your reservation with only 2 days in advance and before sending your confirmation, we request the entrance tickets to the Frida Kahlo Museum, for the 9 am schedule, which were confirmed by the museum administration. The night before the tour, unfortunately they informed us that due to an overbooking for the morning schedule, some of the last reservations received would be changed to the afternoon schedule (2 pm). Our Guide, tried in the morning early to revert the change, but unfortunately couldn't, so had to inform you and offer available alternatives, which were: take the tour a few hours later or postpone it the next day. We understand that for personal reasons you could not accept any of the 2 alternatives offered, however we also hope that you understand that the museum schedule change did not depend on us. Finally our guide and our vehicles were both ready to carry out the activity, on time. Anyway, if you return to Mexico City, we invite you to contact us with enough advance and we will gladly take you to visit both museums. Find us available for any further clarification.

This is the second time we have booked a tour with Karma Trails and they have both been excellent. On this occasion, we booked a day tour to Tula and Teotihuacan. Isaac, the tour guide, and Fernando, the driver, were both great. The car was really comfortable, services very professional and Isaac took us to hidden areas of Teotihuacan that were free of tourists and absolutely amazing - we saw incredible frescoes and learnt a lot of about the history of the site. Highly recommend booking with Karma Trails and ask for Isaac if you are in the Mexico City area.

We had such a great time on our private tour. We got picked up at 8am from our drive and guide Fren (sorry, I'm not sure how he spells it) he drove us 3.5hrs to Bacalae, stopping whenever needed and always offering us a beverage and checking to see if the A/C was ok. So accommodating and so sweet. His English wasn't the greatest so we didn't get to learn too much but we still really enjoyed ourselves and getting to know our tour guide. We got to make the decisions on how our itinerary went. We decided we wanted to save the best for last so we stopped at Cenote Azul and took a refreshing dive in the deep blue water, then got hungry so we ate lunch right along it. Lunch was included and sooooo good! Then we did a tour of the fort de San Felipe, then went on the boat tour where we went all around the lagoon and it's beautiful colors. Got to see where the birds nest, cenote Esmeralda, and stopped at the pirates canal where we lathered and exfoliated ourselves in the mud/sand. As we thought the tour was over there was one more activity! We went to a park which had large waterslides, beach lounges and a dock to jump off of. We stayed for a bit and enjoyed the sun and the water and decided to head back as we had a long drive home.
Our tour guide, Fren (sp?) Was absolutely Perfecto! My husband was saying that, while on the road, when I was sleeping Fren made an extra effort not to wake me by making small slow movements when he would go into the dash and grab a snack to eat and eat slowly as to not make too much noise. Lol I thought that was sweet.
Overall such a great experience!

It was my last day in Playa Del Carmen and it could not have ended better . I met with the concierge Ray at the illusions hotel and he recommended this tour . He explained that I would be taken to an unspoiled undeveloped area an hour from Tulum but it would be a great experience. I explained that sometimes I get car sick so he arranged for me to sit in the front on the side of the driver and arranged a boxed lunch for me . He gave me his cell number in case I had any questions . Ray gave me excellent service and information.
Now on to the tour . Following the drive through unspoiled roads we got on a boat which took us to a lagoon to see Dolphins . So amazing ! We had 5 swimming alongside our boat . So adorable! Then we moved on to an area for bird watching . Nature at its best ! But wait there was more ! On the way to the reef where we would snorkel we looked for turtles . It was a bit cloudy so the water wasn't clear so it was hard to see but our Italian guide Enza was amazing . She did not give up and promised we'd try again after snorkeling . Well it was our lucky day ! Enza found the turtle . So cute when it's head popped out of the water ! Then we headed to an area to swim where the water was clear and pristine . The color of the water was unreal . We ended the day with a nice meal in a small village and then drove back to Tulum. What a fabulous day and great experience! Perfect end to my vacation !

Salve vorrei sapere se organizzate oltre al Messico ( a me interessa la parte sud) Anche il Belize. Sono stata in Messico ed ho girato parecchio. Mi piacerebbe fare la parte sud da Cancun in poi è il Belize, anche se possibile qualche isola. Mujeres? Cozumel? O… non so. Grazie mille

Sobald sie der Meinung sind, dass eine "tailor-made-tour" für den Interessenten(neben anderen Anbietern) von besonderem Interesse ist, erhöhen sie den Tour-Preis bei jeder gewünschten Änderung. Z.B. Für einen Tag
mehr lt. Itinerary um mehr als 500 US$.(Pers).
