Wednesday 2nd March and we walked from our Hotel Riu Palace Mexico into the Town of Playa del Carmen where this Park is located along the seafront by the Ferry Terminal.
Known as Parque los Fundadore, it's name translates to Founding Fathers Park.
The most notable feature of the Park is the massive Portal Maya Statue. Also located here is the small Capilla de Nta Señora del Carmen as well as a small bandstand.
This paved area is a popular meeting place, somewhere to meet friends, or sit on one of the low walls having a drink or something to eat. Nice place to sit and enjoy the views out over the beach and sea or just watch the world go by.
Paseo del Carmen Shopping Mall and a number of shops and restaurants are nearby.

This area is a hive of activity. The big sculptures dominate the immediate landscape and beyond them is the ferry terminal to Cozumel as well as the beach. There is regular entertainment in the area as well with various performers. We recommend going to the beach south of the terminal for a less crowded experience.

Parque Los Fundadores or Founding Father's Park, is the center of local culture. The public space is a meeting point for the locals and tourists alike. A good spot for people watching, enjoy the scenery and watch the entertainment. The beautiful world of art, sculpture Portal Maya is the iconic image of Playa del Carmen. Here you can see the performance of the Papantla Dancers. They are literally flying high tied by a rope. According to one myth, the ritual was created to ask the gods to end the drought. Plenty of street vendors selling fruits and snacks. Lively place for people watching.

This is adjacent to the ferry terminal with a backdrop of a small beach and the Caribbean. It is a nice park that is a nice stone cover area by the water. Really interesting beautiful large sculpture. They have a Mayan show in the evening with people that are twirling around this tower on fabrics that is interesting. I can still here the music now.

This park is a fun gathering area with entertains performing in the evenings. Locate near the ferry. Alternating groups will do the "Dance of the Flyers" or "Flying Pole" with indigenous performers swinging around in circles unraveling from the top AND locals performing dances and rituals in ancient Mayan costumes. In the cool of the evening - a fun place to spend an hour. Entertaining for kids and adults.

The Fundadores park is a cute park at the end of Quinta Av, set between the Nuestra Senora del Carmen whitewashed Church and PDC beach.
However, the park is currently fenced being renovated (as well a good part of 5 Av.).
But, you can approach its magnificent Mayan sculpture from the beach, have few pics and swim in beautiful sea.

Beautiful area next to the ferry harbor. It's certainly a place in Playa del Carmen which I would certainly recommend people to go see. In the plaza near the park, you'll see a fascinating 50 ft high arched iron sculpture which stands right at the entrance to the beach. It is incredible, and the ocean views are just mesmerizing. One cannot miss this!! This is why it is so full of tourists... If you have a chance, I would say: take many photos!! You'll also find around the park kiosks selling all kinds of things, including typical Mexican street food and fresh coconut water. Just go visit it!!

We always try to visit here whenever we are in the area. We always see live entertainment. There is a small catholic chapel nearby and they often have a wedding or service you can see. The parque has added some sculptures and the nearby shops offer anything you can think of. GREAT local atmosphere.

Mayan performers climb a tower some 30 feet or so and a act out a ritual or ceremony up high. I was attracted by the sound of a flute one was playing. Awesome sight as is the view of the ocean and all the tourists and street vendors.

Although crowded with tourists on cruise ship days, This plaza is a wonderful place to hang out. I watched an iguana wander around, nibbling on flowers for 25 minutes. There are shops and restaurants on three sides of the Plaza, the Cathedral is right round the corner
