Located on 5th & 40. I can't tell you how many times I've tried shopping for real Mexican pottery on 5th. It was hard to find until now. This place is jammed with original signed pottery and art pieces. All different prices from $3 to $3000. Special pieces for your home everywhere you look it was hard to choose. Probably why I came back 5 times!
I really appreciated the fact that they packaged everything airplane friendly for the ride home. There are a couple other galleries on this block so it's good for one stop shopping for authentic Mexican art pieces.

I wandered across the gallery at the north end of fifth avenue in Playa del Carmen and found it to offer a broad assortment of mexican handcrafts of high quality and reasonable price. There was a broad selection of Talavereada, pewter, Oaxacan painted wood work, and day of the dead ceramics. The store had just opened and reported that a large selection of Oaxacan pottery and other Art work would be arriving in the next month. The staff was also open to tracking down items not it stock (they are currently searching for a Talavereada fountain for me).

We loved this gallery!!
This is not the typical souvenir store with mexican kitschy stuff, they have very elegant pieces in beautiful turquoise and aqua colors, I bought some glass jugs for a photo shoot , I could not find the right one anywhere else. Alex was fantastic, if you tell him what you are looking for, he will show you exacly what you need. I also loved the tiffany lamps they have!

Been visiting Playa for several years and have bought Mexican Art every year. This year, we found the Guelaguetza Gallery located on the new 5th Ave extension We spoke with Chiquilin and the owner they could not have been more helpful and kind. The shop is filled over with authentic Mexican Art including talavera suns and dishes, paintings, vase & pottery crafts, etc... and the prices are really reasonable compared to other galleries. Wish them success and I invite you to visit the gallery as it is very impressive !

We noticed this shop on a long walk through the North End of Playa and knew immediately that we wanted to stop in. Alex the shop owner is great. He was very informative on the history and types of native Mexican art on display. Very beautiful handmade plates, bowls, cups, vases and more And they make their own pewter.. Highly recommended. I'm still dreaming of the wine decanter we could not manage to bring home.
P.S. - We actually went in this shop and looked around first, then came back the next day after we had looked at other stores. This shop definitely has some of the nicest and most unique in town.

It used to be that there were many shops selling genuine Mexican artisanal crafts in Playa del Carmen, but there are less and less all the time it seems. Guelaguetza, and it's sibling across the street La 5ta Hacienda are excellent shops which we frequented numerous times in the last couple of weeks. The shops are run by a very friendly and helpful couple (Alex and Denise) - I don't hesitate to recommend them if you are interested in non-touristy crafts (OK - less touristy). These shops are north a ways (just past Calle 40) however if you are in the vicinity they are well worth checking out.

Beautiful gallery with all handmade pieces. Wonderful owner willing to take the time to explain the pieces and a bit of the culture. Such a great place. Not your basic tourist items. Hand made collectables. A great stop.

Today we had the pleasure of shopping for arts and crafts and went to the Guelaguetza Gallery. This friendly family owned gallery sells authentic Mexican made art by local artisans, each with their own story. We were especially delighted with a piece we purchased to represent our 37th wedding anniversary and trip to Mexico. We had an enlightening chat and visit with Alex who shared about his family and the products in the stores. Everything we purchased was very well wrapped for travel. The only regret was not being able to take more home ! Go and enjoy - its so worth the trip to enjoy the real art of Mexico.

This new store at the new end of Quinta Avenida is run by a family from the interior of Mexico who have brought a huge assortment of home furnishings and decorations to Playa del Carmen—one of the best selections of authentic Mexican artwork and furniture anywhere here! I had walked past the store dozens of times without ever stopping in, but when it came time to look for a lamp for my living room, I’d remembered what a cool selection of them they had. There is a ton of Talavera, the blue ceramics, and many pieces of the hand-blown glasswork, but as well several sizes and types of tables and frames and artwork and collectibles and trinkets galore—truly a great selection! Of course it’s probably better for those of us who live here than for tourists—we don’t have to worry so much about fitting things in suitcases(!)—but there are still plenty of small options available!

We recently visited Playa Del Carmen and were looking for some items to bring home to remind us of our trip as well as pick up a Christmas gift for a family member. We had almost given up hope of finding something outside the typical tourist shop when we encountered the gallery. What wonderful items at what great prices! We found a few things to bring home but were unable to find what we were looking for as a Christmas gift. Alex, the owner, was extremely helpful to the point of calling another store (ok, it was owned by his mother) to see if they had what we were looking for. It was really above and beyond customer service. I will definitely shop here again when I next visit Playa!

I noticed that are not any recent reviews of this gallery. Just curious if it is still open for business?
