We absolutely LOVED our experience with The Custom Tour. We went as three different families and grandparents (a total of 16 people). Everyone from the 84 grandparents to the 13 year old were accommodated for, cared for, and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Our guides Tamara & Claire were so personable and patient with our big group. It was so nice to just get to follow their lead and not have to worry about a single thing. I cannot recommend this service more! Book with The Custom Tour! You will absolutely nothing regret it. We will be back!

Our group of 9, which included an 87 year old and a 5 year old, went on an excursion to Ek Balam and a cenote. Robs’s crew did an excellent job, it was by far the highlight of our trip. Clair, our guide, and Benjamin, our driver were great! Day started out with us making some requested stops along the way to our main attraction. Clair was very knowLedgeable and explained the history of Ek Balam and showed us the ruins and answered all our questions. Service was top notch, including the much welcome cold towel after our hike to the top of the pyramid. Next was the cenote where Clair helped us maneuver through all the required preparations to enjoy a refreshing dip. Then we had a nice lunch! We adjusted our planned tour as we went and Clair and Benjamin made us feel comfortable the entire time! Also, Clair took pictures along the way, everywhere our group went, she was capturing it with excellent photos…….and they sent them along as part of our package….what a nice perk! After our tour, Rob reached out to make sure we were satisfied. He also let us know that we managed to leave a tshirt behind in the van, which we did want to get back. Rob had it delivered to our resort the next day! He went out of his way to assist us, even though our trip was over. If you looking for group to take you on a wonderful experience, I highly recommend this group!

My experience with Rod and his team was exemplary! Communicating with them was a breeze - they were super quick and responsive to my emails and answered all questions that I had. Claire, our private tour guide, was phenomenal!! Her knowledge made the Chichen ruins come alive for me and my daughters (ages 11 and 14) and gave an awesome guided tour. The cenote she took us to was wonderful, and the included lunch was delicious. After every stop of our trip, Benjamin, our driver, always had the car ready and the A/C blasting - a nice reprieve from the heat. The tour was seamless from start to finish, allowing us to fully immerse ourselves in the experience. I would highly recommend The Custom Tour to anybody looking to book a private tour!!!

Hands down one of the BEST private tour companies we have used. They were prompt, informative, knowledgeable, patient, and friendly. Diego & Kat were amazing. They embraced our groups sense of humor (playful sarcasm mostly), they were easy going, and truly made our experience personal & great. They allowed us as much or as little time we wanted for each activity. We will DEFINITELY be booking with them in the future. Thank you again Rod, Kat, and Diego. We had a wonderful experience.

After doing an extreme amount of research on the whale shark tours and Chichen Itza, I decided to go with Rod’s Custom Tour. We traveled with our three children (13, 11, and 8) and our au pair, so there were 6 of us in total. Rod was extremely professional from the start. I emailed him with several questions as I did other companies, and he always responded quickly, in depth, and answered exactly what I needed to hear. Here are my two reviews for the Whale Shark and our customized Chichen Itza tour. WHALE SHARK: This was an experience I, nor will my family ever forget. Please don’t think twice about doing this adventure. To be able to swim with these gentle giants was an absolute treasure. So peaceful. When reading other reviews with other companies, you quickly realize that you want a boat that is safe, you want a company that will utilize your time effectively, and most of all give you an experience you will never forget. Our boat was, La Panga and our captain was the happiest guy around! Always singing and so excited when he would find wildlife in the ocean for us to see. All of the boats that go out for the whale shark tours have to be a certain size so you won’t get a huge boat that has stabilizers, but you do want a boat that has double engines and a cover. With the weather in the Gulf of Mexico, you have no idea what you will get once you get out there. So you want to choose a company that has plenty of space and will keep you safe. Claire was our guide and she was absolutely amazing. My children loved her and she was calm and patient with them. She packed treats she knew the kiddos would enjoy and being that I am gluten free, she packed me my own special goodies from an allergen bakery. Very thoughtful. She told my kids stories about sea animals, tons of information on the whale sharks, and made sure they were comfortable. It is a long ride out to find the whale sharks. If you are prone to sea sickness or you think you aren’t, double down on non drowsy Dramamine! Take one the night before and one the morning of, and another once you get to the whale sharks! The ride isn’t bad but once you stop, the big rolling waves will cause you to be sick. I am prone to sea sickness and never got sick because I listened to Rod and double downed. I also stayed towards the back of the boat. Our au pair who never gets sea sick, got sea sick! She didn’t take one the night before because she thought she would be fine with one dose. The boat provides masks, snorkels, and mandatory life jackets. My husband’s mask leaked even after he switched it out. If you are worried about that, then bring your own. You can also bring your own life jacket. There’s are a bit worn out but still do their job. The day we went out, the weather was hit or miss. Sun would pop out some but once we arrived to the whale sharks, we had a crazy lightning storm for about 20 minutes!! It was intense and my kids were def scared but the captain drove us to where it would calm down quicker and we hunkered down. The captain sang and we waited it out. There were about 10 boats there when we arrived and crazy enough, people in the water! Once the storm left, the seas were calm and we jumped in and had numerous whale sharks everywhere! It was quite an experience. All of my kids went in and loved it. My youngest has a very tiny forehead and the snorkel mask would leak so she put on googles and was totally fine. The whale sharks swim quickly. So once you jump in, follow your guide and don’t stop swimming! Kick your fins! Swim along side with them! Those are the best videos and pictures. We brought our own GoPro9 but Claire had her own and she took all of our videos with both. She also had a helper, whose name I can’t remember!! He helped the captain, assisted us, and swam with us too. He was soooooo nice! Half way through our swim, we looked up and there were about 30-50 boats around. Custom Tours def got us out there early! Those boats also left quicker than we did as we didn’t have a timeline. After swimming, we headed for Isla Mujeres. It was raining and cloudy so snorkeling wasn’t ideal. We tried though! We then headed to north beach and it was beautiful. And packed! So many boats and people. The water color was gorgeous. They fixed us ceviche and fresh guac and chips. We did see some other companies that are on floating boards in the ocean; that would have been cool! We Lounged for a bit and headed home. We were all exhausted. It was such a wonderful experience. If we had to find something that could have been better, the boat could have had music to make the ride a little more pleasant. We noticed other boats had music. The boat didn’t have fins that fit 2 of my children. Maybe they could ask shoe sizes prior so make sure they have them. They offer ham and cheese sandwiches for lunch. If you don’t like that, pack your own or make sure you tell them what you want on it. They add Mayo, mustard, lettuce to them. Definitely bring your own towels! And extra! It poured on us and we were cold. All of the towels were soaked. If you have rain coats, bring those too. Tips: you have to tip the entire crew separately. The guide, the captain, and the other helper. Have your money in different envelopes for each of them. It was such an amazing experience! We survived a crazy lightning storm and swam with whale sharks. My husband and I are coming back to do it again without kiddos. CHICHEN ITZA / EK BALAM / CENOTE / VALLADOLID DELUXE TOUR: We chose this tour after talking back and forth with Rod. With three kids, we needed to choose the one that best fit them and their interests. My oldest loves world history and really wanted to see the ruins. We are all glad we chose this tour. It was a great but long day. We left early (6am) for Chichen Itza. It’s about 2 1/2 hours away. We stopped 3x on the way and Claire (she was our guide again) told us about authentic Mexican food at one of the stops. Oh wow! Delicious! They cook this specific pork underground and it is so tender with so much flavor. Those were my favorite tacos on the entire trip. Our driver was Diego and he had a lot of knowledge on Mexico. We got to ChichenItza early. Not many people were around so we got great pictures. It was hot and muggy to dress appropriately. The tour packed umbrellas to help with shade and in case of rain. We saw all they had to offer and bought some souvenirs there. They are much cheaper there than the hotel zone and airport. We headed to Ek Balam and this was a fascinating site as well! We are so happy to have included this. You are still able to climb Ek Balam and all of our kids did it! So fun. Definitely add this! The drive is about 45 min from Chichen Itza. You get to drive through authentic Mayan Villages. We finally headed to the cenote for late lunch and a swim. The weather started turning but we were swimming anyways so it didn’t matter. The lunch was very good. It was buffet style and authentic Mayan food. 99% was gluten free. Try the Mexican drinks, the rice water or hibiscus water. Delicious. The cenote was extremely busy when we arrived! Packed. I know there are several cenotes around. Maybe they should call prior to see how many people are there. But it was gorgeous and big enough for all of these people. My girls were brave and jumped off the platform. The water is clear and cold. Tiny fish swimming around. You get to swim for 45 min which is plenty of time. Pack towels, flip flops, and googles if you need them. When we arrived to beautiful and colorful Valladolid, it was raining heavily so we stayed in the van and just drove around. Such a quaint city. The ride home is long. It’s an exhausting day. We packed pillows and blankets from the room. We also packed sweaters. We ate all the snacks they provided and drank all the waters. They also pack beer for you. Claire packed me lots of gluten free goodies again. Thank you Claire! The van was very nice!! Especially when you get to compare to others at the sites. Very comfortable and clean. Diego got us home safely around 8:30pm. It was fun filled packed day. We would definitely do it again! I highly suggest both tours and using Custom Tours. Claire was a wonderful guide for both tours. She has been living in Mexico for 18 years and speaks fluent Spanish, French, and English. She was always so patient with my kids. They can tend to ask the same question she just explained. Ha. But she stayed calm and answered all their questions. Kids or no kids, this is the tour group for you. Can’t wait to go back!
