The "Reef and Cenote Tour" with Eddie was the highlight of our trip to Playa del Carmen! He is kind, knowledgeable, attentive, punctual, professional, fun, and committed to each person having an excellent experience. He made it easy for us by coming to pick us up and took great care to accommodate a food allergy. Not only did we enjoy the time in the water, but we had an excellent, authentic mayan lunch. The pictures Eddie included from our time on the reef are treasures we could not have gotten ourselves. As Eddie suspected would be true, the cenote was truly astounding for us. Though we never tire of snorkeling over reefs, we had never seen a cenote before, so the experience, particularly with Eddie's color commentary, was just amazing. To top it all off, Eddie is just a thoroughly enjoyable human being! We are planning to come back so our boys can experience a cenote with Eddie, too! Thanks, Eddie, for a fabulous 1/2 day tour.

My Dad found this tour online. The morning started out pretty early; around 6:30AM. We got up and Eddie met us at our hotel at 7:10AM. He already started out as a really nice guy because he had to wait 15 minutes for my family to get ourselves together and meet him at the lobby. Eddie even sent a selfie of himself waiting for us (he has a great sense of humor and is a really relatable guy). Once we met him, we piled in his van which had more of enough room for our family of five, plus him and his driver in front. We drove probably thirty minutes to Playa del Carmen, where we disembarked to a chill marina that’s definitely hopping midday with people getting small bites to eat after lounging at the beach for a bit too long. However, by now, it’s only 8:00AM, so the only guy there was Michaelangelo, who fitted us for goggles and life jackets. It’s a great vibe and it’s clear that Eddie knows and is friendly with the people working there. All of us got on a good durable boat that took us a few hundred feet off shore to a National Park, which held ocean wildlife and their habitats. When you look down at the ocean floor, you see an ecosystem of cities of coral, and traffic jams of fish trying to get from the little anemones they live in to wherever their other fishie friends may be. Michaelangelo and Eddie are always on the look-out for where you are and your safety. They are also pointing out cool things you might miss otherwise, like sea urchins, sting rays, puffer fish and much more. Eddie took us to two areas of the National Park, and in between had us drink water and rest to stay energized and hydrated. After snorkeling there, we drove maybe an hour to a cenote (on our way there we had THE BEST toasted sandwiches ever...we might have been pretty hungry, but even so it was so good). Eddie also clearly knows everyone there and leads you into this crazy place. I really don’t want to spoil it, but here’s where you just have to trust him. Eddie is going to take you to the underbelly of a cenote. This cenote is riddled with bats and stalagmites and stalactites, all of which he is very knowledgeable about, which is comforting. It’s obvious that he’s done this before and I promise you that if you do as he says, you are very safe. You go through the cave, lit solely by two uber-powerful flashlights that Eddie has. He will lead you into the water, which is not cold...it’s freezing. But as soon as you totally submerge yourself in the water (which took me 50% percent longer than the rest of my family) you get used to it. Eddie will swim you around the cenote, while informing you of your surroundings. It’s dark and he’ll do a few thrilling things, including something called the Mayan Minute, which I won’t tell you about because I don’t want to ruin the surprise. It’s amazing though, I’ll tell you that. Once you reach the end of the cenote, you will have already realized how clear the water is and Eddie will shine the flashlight down into the water and you will be able to see 40 feet down. You can see the bottom and it is very deep. You can see dark crevasses and lonely sticks banished to the scary dark bottom of the cenote. The ceiling of the cave will become noticeably lower. All the sudden you will feel very small and, if your are a suburban teenager like me who hasn’t really exposed himself to much thrill except a few Stephen King books, you’re going to begin to shiver. However, when you look back on it later that night, you will still be scared. Just kidding (not really). Of course though, as long as you listen to Eddie, you are totally safe and you’ll look back on it smiling. And shivering. After that, we left that cave and went back into the van. Eddie took us back to the hotel. All in all, it was the best day of our entire trip to Mexico, and I wouldn’t change a thing if I had to do it again. It is totally worth it and a must-do on your Yucatán Peninsula bucket list. If you have one, that is. I don’t, but, you know, some people do. I don’t know anyone that does but I’m sure they exist. Yucatán is an amazing place. The point is: it’s awesome, and you should do it because Eddie is great and safe and you’ll have a great time. That’s it from me. The last thing is a checklist of things you should bring. Eddie will get snacks and a bite to eat for you, so don’t worry about that. If you ask him, he’ll also give you some legit restaurant recommendations. Here’s the checklist. BRING: -Towels for each person -Watershoes for each person -A change of clothes for each person I hope you do this. Eddie is a super nice guy who is great with kids and speaks excellent English. Everything is super safe as long as you listen to him. Have fun!

We went snorkeling with Eddie in Playa Del Carmen, mexico. He picked us up around 7:15 a.m. It was a super smoothe car ride and I loved to hear him talk about what we where going to do in the next 4 hours and hearing him talk about past snorkeling experiences. When we got to Playa Del Carmen, we got all of our gear (Snorkeling Mask, flippers life jackets etc.) We hopped on a boat for about 2 minutes and when we got to our destination, he helped us get in the water. We saw some pretty amazing fish, lobster and even sting rays and eels! We did 2 places in the water and then got out and ready to get back in the car. In the ride to our next destination he got us one of the best car sandwiches i’ve ever had. When we got to the senote, we walked through the woods and grabbed 2 flashlights, life jackets and some goggles and walked into a cave where every so often a bat would fly over your head. we got into the refreshing water and started to float along the road if stalagmites and tights. Eddie educates is on how they formed and how long it took. he spoke amazing english and was very knowledgeable. we did a meditating exercise which Eddie called a Myan Minute. We turned if the flashlights so it was pitch black and floated there for maybe 45 seconds . We got out safly and quickly. He drove us home and we said our goodbyes. Great tour, definitely recommend.

My family of 5 - staying in Mayakoba - went to Xel Ha. It was a blast and totally worth it. We also visited Cenote Azul, Eden and Crystalline - super beautiful and undeveloped - also totally worth it. But this was the best day of our trip. I wanted to some snorkeling with the entire family. My wife and I have done it (with some scary prior experiences in Thailand) and my kids have only played around. Never done any real reef snorkeling where it feels like your inside a tropical aquarium. I was super intent on giving them that experience so I sent out a more than a few emails to local places in PDC describing what I was looking for. Basically - snorkeling plus something else? It’s COVID times so you never know who’s working and who isn’t. Eddie was immediately responsive and offered a private tour that included snorkeling in a National Reef Park our if Porto Murelos followed by a cenote tour of Chaak Tun. We had just gone to 3 open cenotes so I was a little reluctant but Eddie promised I hadn’t seen one like he was going to show us. He was 100% right. Besides being super responsive, his first comments were about safety of my kids (14, 12 and 11) and how he wanted to make sure he taught them the right way to do it so they could do it well every time after. The price of the day was beyond reasonable considering g he picked us up with a driver, in a van, and drove us everywhere, outfitted us with gear (life jackets required), and took us to 2 amazing places. And we had the best snack ever - literally my kids won’t stop talking about it. To his word, he showed up at 710 am and had to wait for my family. He and his driver took us to Porto Murelo and we were in the water by 8:30. Amazing. The reef is about half a mile off shore and NO ONE else was out there. We worked with another guide Michaelangelo who was quiet and kind and looked like he could wrestle a shark if he had to. He would call us over to see cool stuff and I spied him watching my kids to see if they were safe. Both he and Eddie were constantly aware of where people were and eddie even pulled me aside and tighter my life vest in the water because he saw I kept getting water in my snorkel. Totally worked. We saw exactly what I was hoping for. Colorful fish and eels and big spiny lobsters and sting rays and amazing anemones. And all 3 of my kids loved it, felt safe and comfortable. We did 2 sessions and all of us were ready to be done. Eddie gave us waters, we headed back to shore, showered off and hoped in the van. Eddie has been in this are for a long time and has worked with othe tour companies and shared his own prior experiences. Also interesting to hear about the current situation of these beautiful coastal towns that seem kind of underdeveloped. The day would have already been a success but ehh we stopped for “a snack” and I’m not sure if snorkeling maybe build up some kind of super appetite or the excitement of the day but it was the best toasted sandwich my kids and I have ever had. That’s it. That’s all I’m gna say about that. We drove about 20 mins to the cenote and it was great to just chill in the van and eat and drive. The 3 previous cenotes we visited were open. Meaning open to the sky. This one wasn’t. They scanned temp as do most places. Eddie seems to know everyone on a more personal level and we were the only once visiting Chaak Tun at the time. We walked into the forest and grabbed lifejackets and snorkel masks as we approached what looked like a movie set. We desended into a big wide mouth cave with bats Scooting in and out. Normally I think multiple family members (including me) would have run for the hills but Eddie is so chill and has done this so much that you just go along with it. And all of us are glad we did. With out lifejackets and 2 flashlights we walked thru the cave and eventually into the water that filled the cave and floated quietly amongst the stalagmites and stalactites. And it was $&@? Awesome. When I was a kid I remember being in Howe Caverns and other caves all lit up and walking aroundjust wishing I could actually be in one of these with a line of tourists like a train and holding onto a metal railing. This was that. Alone, in the crystal clear water with a flashlight. Eddie was all about safety again. He pointed out interesting formations and also where you can go diving deeper into the cenote. Nope. It was just awesome. Thanks to Eddie we have a day that we will honestly never forget. 10/10. Worth every penny. Just do it.

We met Eddie on a Thursday morning after we agreed on the phone. I found his page on Tripadvisor and the reviews convinced me. He immediately called me to explain the details. He picked up us at the hotel to transport us to Puerto Morelos, where the boat would leave for the tour. The difference of this company is that it is attended by the owner, a simple person, very well trained and with knowledge of diving and rescue. The tour was private and he went out of his way to give us a great ride, my 9 year old son had never snorkeled and Eddie was with him the whole time until he released and swam alone. We visited several reefs and had a great time. It is not a cheap service but believe me it is worth every dollar. VIP service that we will surely look for again on our next trip.
