DiveMex is a small dive center in downtown Playa del Carmen close to the public bus station, the ferry and the public transport station for tulum and cancun. Diving with us is so much more than just get dressed, jump into the water and dive. The personal experience of every diver is very important to us and that's why we only dive in small groups up to 4 divers. Safe diving, no rushing and personal service guaranteed. You will get the best diving experience possible, regardless if you are at the beggining of your diving career or already an advanced diver

The face of divemex is the diving instructor Gabriela, who is happy to guide experienced cave divers through the underwater caves. This is all the more important because as a cave diving tourist you cannot get into all the caves, you cannot get bottles with the right gases everywhere and it is not easy to get the right car. Not to mention the local knowledge of lesser-known caves, so that we were often the only divers there. She also knows the caves like the back of her hand.
Not to forget the all-round service, which even includes dealing with the authorities. A really great service - we will be back!

We had a great time with DiveMex, with 2 days ocean diving, and 4 days in different cenotes. We also arranged 2 tours of the neighborhood with them.
We can fully recommend DiveMex. Their strong suit is without a doubt their people. We had Jerri as dive guide in Cozumel, and accompanying us in a really great tour of a nature reserve (awesome!!), maya temple, and snorkeling in a wonderful cenote (Mundo Maya Tour). The cenote is very special and restricted access. Jerri is very friendly, helpful, goes the extra mile for you, relaxed.
For Playa and the cenotes, Malte was our dive guide, and that was superb. Very good briefings, knowledgeable and with high focus on quality and safety. We were somewhat anxious about the cavern diving, but his methodical briefings and explaining everything took that away totally. Oh, and by the way, we also had a lot of fun.
The cenotes are so special that we will certainly return. In fact, we are seriously thinking about doing cave training here in the future - it is truly gorgeous and a meditative experience, with all cenotes being different and beautiful. We hope Malte has become cave instructor by that time 😎🤗
Their slogan, “Diving with friends” is not an empty one!

As traveling to playa del Carmen, I was looking for a German dive school offering cavern diving.
I found divemex on google and asked for a cenote dive via contact form . A quick response from Gabriela came in on my mail account.
We made an appointment and I went to the local office.
Before we went out, she gave me a quick briefing what will happen the day. Afterwards I got my equipment and we went to the first cenote.
While we’ve been driving (only the two of us), I already got some instructions and information what’s important for diving in the cenotes.

At the cenote itself, we did the main briefing.
She showed me on a map, where we will go and what we gonna see down there.
Also I got the instructions for communication with the underwaterlamp.

Then we got into the water and I had the most amazing underwater experience ever.

After we got out, Gabi asked me, if I’d like to do one more dive at another cenote.

For sure I did that.

Thank you Gabi for the wonderful day trip and one of my lifes craziest experiences.

And guys, the sandwiches she makes by herself are the best :)

If u want a total safe dive, go with divemex

Spend an amazing 2 days with Dirk and his crew getting my son certified as a Jr diver. What do you look for in a dive shop? Great instructors, good safe equipment, take you to the best site and have reasonable prices. DiveMex is truly great In each category. Dirk took such good care of my son (12 years old) and taught him so well. I had never experienced such an amazing instructor (I even learned a lot after 25 years of diving). Beyond that, the sites were beautiful, Dirk made sure we don’t miss all the beautiful sites. Highly recommend! A truly amazing dive shop. I’m already planning a trip back in August to come see the whale sharks!
(love the shirts too!)
Thanks Dirk!

We had 10 wonderful dives on our holiday. Thanks to Gabriela and also a big thank you to her dive guide Cedric. We went diving in cenotes for the first time and it was fantastic. We felt very well looked after and safe. The equipment was good and fit great. We were always picked up directly from the hotel and also brought back. It was an all-round carefree package with food. Thanks to Cedric, we also learned a lot about life in Mexico, which was of course very interesting for us. We were still diving in Playa and Cozumel. Everything went very quiet and relaxed...they were slow leisurely dives, according to our taste. Cedric has always taken a lot of time for us, as well as Gabriela. We will come back and hope Divemex will be around for a long time. All the best for the future and best regards from Vicky and Lars

Our family of 4 did our first cavern dive with Malte. Was a totally new diving experience for us and Malte was a great guide. He knew the history. Was patient with us and helped us with our buoyancy. Was very cool to see the stalagmites and stalagtites under water. Definitely worth doing!

We were very disappointed with our diving experience for multiple reasons: #1- equipment is poorly maintained; there were 5 of us diving, one of my tanks was empty, my buddies regulator did not work, we were given a replacement which did not work either. Finally, we had to ask another diving boat for another regulator- this one worked. I am surprised and alarmed that they did not check their equipment. On our first day of diving the guides Emilio and Luis were excellent, once we sorted out faulty regulators, very calm, knowledgeable, helpful and reassuring. But the planning of the trip was terrible! We asked Derk months in advance for a trip for both snorkelers and divers; we were assured that this dive would be fine. We had one snorkeler with us, she was not allowed to leave the boat because the water was too deep for snorkeling and the currents too strong – but we were only told this while already on the boat! So the poor girl spent many dreadful hours on a very stinky slow boat for now reason! On our second dive the regulator stopped working for another member of our group and she lost air pressure and had to share her buddy’s air and they had to surface. What’s more- the guide was not helpful at all and very unprofessional. #2- the company does not have a boat and the ones they rent are the slowest around; the dive in Cozumel took 11 hours, of which 1 and a half was actual diving and the rest getting to and from the place! Were we told that beforehand. would have never taken this dive.
If you decide to go with this company, make sure that you ask about every possible little detail of the trip! The sites were good but not worth 9.5 hours of very unpleasant boat ride. The company is after maximizing their profit, not the pleasure of your diving experience

Thank you for taking the time to share your opinion. We are sorry to read that your trip has not been as enjoyable as it should have. Our boats are not as large and fast as the ones from the big companies, where you can dive with other 30 divers on the same dive site. In return, we keep our groups small to offer a more personal experience. Regarding the snorkeler, it was due to safety reasons that she was not allowed in the water, being the sea conditions not ideal. About equipments, our standard procedure is to check all gears before departure, to make sure everything works properly. We would like to apologise for the inconveniences that you had on this day. Your opinion is very valuable and offered us an opportunity to improve. In fact, since your visit, we have purchased many new gear, regulators included! Special thanks for your comments about our excellent, knowledgeable and helpful staff. Regards

My wife and I decided to try SCUBA for the first time while on a trip to Playa del Carmen. After using tripadvisor.com for research, we chose DiveMex. We couldn't be happier with our experience. We had one instructor (Matthew) for the two of us -- which, if you read the reviews of other diving operations, you'll find is not very common at all. More importantly, we felt completely comfortable and safe the entire time.

On our two dives, we were able to see quite a bit of sea life -- including a sea turtle and stingray. Matthew was great at helping us see all the different creatures and sights we might have otherwise missed.

If you're looking at dive companies, DiveMex certainly deserves the top ratings it gets on tripadvisor.com. We're looking forward to going with these guys again on our next trip back!

My husband has been after me to go diving with him for years. I always swore I would never go. I have a tendency to claustrophobia and the thought of having all that gear on, underneath all that water with no quick way out, was enough to scare me to death. Plus, I don't like putting my face underwater. Not a good combination for a scuba diver.

BUT my husband found DiveMex on tripadvisor and convinced me to try. Amelio was wonderful! I was embarrassed to be so nervous, but he made me feel really comfortable. We went slowly - step by step. Seriously, one step was just to put my mask on and put my face in the water. We started out in the pool, which was way less scary to me that starting off in the ocean. He did everything first so all I had to do was copy him and his communication was very clear and easy to follow.

After a quick lunch we headed out to do my first reef dive. I was terrified of rolling backward off the boat, but I was so comfortable with my equipment and knew Amelio was right beside me, so I sucked it up and did it. We descended slowly and he never broke eye contact with me. I felt very comfortable and never rushed.

The dive was amazing - totally clear and gorgeous. (My husband tells me I'm extremely lucky to have gotten such a perfect experience.) At one point I got a little panicky and he took us straight up to the surface, waited for me to calm down, talked to me a little about what was causing me difficulty, and we descended again (although I did not feel any pressure to do so - he would have gladly signaled the boat to come get us). I'm so glad we did, because we saw not one, but 2 HUGE sea turtles!

Obviously, Amelio has the patience of a saint and I wouldn't hesitate to dive with him again. And that's saying a lot coming from someone who swore she'd never even snorkel. If you (or your wife) are like me, this is the place to go. They will take great care of you. Thank you, Amelio, for a amazing experience!
