This park is some 10 min walk from the central Plaza. It's nice to combine it with the Mercado Santiago - great local market.
The park is just next door to it and a beautiful whitewashed Church decorates it.

This is my neighborhood park or “ Plaza de Santiago “. I recommend the coconut ice cream. It is very good and refreshing. I like to just sit on a bench, relax and eat my ice cream in peace.
I did not travel there. I’m a U.S. citizens, retired, living in Merida and Orlando.

Santiago is at the heart of Merida: the market may be small, but you can find most fresh foods there, and some of the loncherias (food joints) are really very good, for example La Lupita (second row) which is open for breakfast and lunch only. Every Tuesday evening there is Big Band music in the Santiago Square, with hundreds of people dancing the foxtrott and the chachacha. Well worth inspecting!

We were in Merida for two weeks and discovered Santiago around the halfway point of our visit. The Airbnb house we stayed in was just a few blocks away, so we walked through the park many times at all hours of the day and into the evening.
It's not fancy - the benches are simple wood slats and the fountain only works some of the time - but is a lovely place to people-watch.
The church, like others in town, has simple yet beautiful architecture that's lit up at night. We could hear the bells from our house.
The market is on the small side. It includes a number of meat vendors (not sure about their sanitary standards), the usual fruit, vegetable and flower stands, and a tortilleria.
Two or three loncherias line two sides, along with an ice-cream stand and often a marquesita cart. Across the street is a small Aki grocery and a farmacia, and on another side of the square is a movie theater (Spanish language, of course).
The Tuesday night music was good and the dancing lively. Very friendly and low-key, as is everything about the park. On Wednesday we stopped to watch two teenage jugglers put on a fun show. A day or so later it was a small group singing folk songs with more enthusiasm than musicality, and on a third night, about a dozen young teen girls had a lot of fun rapping and breakdancing.
Aside from the Tuesday big band, all of the entertainment seemed local and impromptu, which is so refreshing after the highly choreographed and promoted shows at the main plaza.
If you like a place to just hang out and enjoy the neighborhood, this is it. Oh, and like most of Merida's parks, there's free wifi.

We have been in many parks in Mexico over the years but this is the only time we have seen a park full at 7am... Kids waiting to go to school, people reading their newspaper, people going in-out of church and people heading to the restaurant. Great for people watching. We are usually the only people out that early (raised on the farm, can't sleep in and enjoy cool morning air). It was actually a pleasant surprise to see so much life. Did not see other tourists there which is how we like it. Only locals meandring about.

Wonderful neighbourhood park. There is always something going on. On Tuesday nights there is a seniors dance night in the park with music accompaniment from a big band. The whole neighbourhood participates and it is a quaint and wonderful experience. At other times the park is just a great place to have an ice cream and take a well deserved break from the heat. There's a great portable marquesita stand at night . Very relaxing and enjoyable place

A mercado is set up here. We frequently ate here as there is numerous little restaurants (I use that loosely). Must tries are the Sopa de lima, poc chuc and cochinita pibil tacos.

I live one half block from this park. The park is always alive with it own market. Purchase fresh fruit and vegetables or take home some of the local flowers. There is always a place to find a wonderful Yucatan home-cooked meal. On Tuesday night dance under the stars as a band play and many locals go to dance. This is one of many parks in Merida...but I call this one home.

Santiago is great on Tuesdays to come dancing with the locals at 8pm. But don't leave it there... come back for your shopping at the market every morning or for breakfast at one of the various cafes in the square. While you there check out what is at the cinemex ;)

Lovely park in south of the main square. Every tuesday night there is live music and the people gather to dance. What fun. Everyone is welcome to join in. There are some very good dancers there and the atmosphere is light and friendly. Just go. No one will ever see you again so dance like crazy!!
