    Incredible Experience!
I had the opportunity to take both private and group classes at La Calle over several weeks and both were incredible. I have been learning Spanish for 8+ years and I learned more during my time at La Calle than I did in most college level courses. Incredible place to learn Spanish and meet great people!

Best language classes I ever had
La Calle absolutely exceeded all expectations. I have learnt many languages in my life but never have I learnt one as fast and easily as at La Calle. All teachers I had were fun, passionate and professional. I attended both group and private lessons and enjoyed both. However, if you travel alone and have only got a few days or weeks, I'd recommend the intensive course/group lessons. I met so many amazing people at the school that I ended up spending lots of time with, also after class. There's also a small kitchen where you can get coffee and delicious lunch and the tours organised by the school in the afternoons and weekends are great for learning more about Yucatan as well. On a side note, I personally can NOT confirm a previous comment about the school not being a save place for women. I am a solo femal traveller myself and never ever felt uncomfortable.

After three Spanish language schools in three different countries, this was my best experience. The staff were very responsive when I was looking into Spanish schools in Merida. Once I committed they followed up with a written placement test. Unfortunately I only spent one week at La Calle - two or three would have been ideal. The instructors that I experienced (Octavio and Agustín) were amazing and approached teaching differently than my usual experience and it really helped me grasp concepts that I’ve previously struggled with. Class sizes were small. We were three in my class. The setting is very informal. I w otro not hesitate to ríen here next time i visit Merida.

I attended school for a week in January. On the plus side, my teacher was good and the classrooms and facilities were comfortable and clean. There is also a small cafe to get coffee and some really tasty snacks.

The main downside were the mixed and often lax attention to Covid protocols on the part of students. There were about 30-35 students attending the week I was there, so the place was pretty crowded. Some people wore masks in class (which was inside with open windows), and some didn't, or wore them on their chins or under their noses. I had trouble understanding people trying to speak through their masks. One day late in the week the instructor announced that the guy sitting next to me for several days tested positive, leaving me to worry about my ability to board a plane back to the U.S. on schedule. Fortunately, I tested negative and was able to return home, If you are at all worried about getting Covid and testing positive and having to quarantine in Mexico, skip this place for now.

We had a good experience in the Beginner class at Calle the year prior. This was not.

My wife and I returned 14 months later for the intermediate class. Upon arrival we received news that there was no group class at our intermediate level. We were disappointed. Particularly, having made arrangement a month in advance and even underwent taking the hour long pretest and emailing the director of our needs.

Semi-private classes were the only recommendation due to our level, we were told.

That was attempted in earnest for part two days; learned absolutely nothing; it was costly.
The Instructor wrote nothing on the board the first, assigned homework but then did not go over it the second day.
We wondered if the teacher was unsure of herself or plainly disinterested as she used her mobile phone more than several times during the class.

My wife complained to the director by email, requesting another class option. We subsequently left when no other options were presented. We understand the student-availability needed for group class, but Calle did not handle this well, in our opinion, and gave no other useful options.

As for us, thankfully Merida is a nice size city. We resourcefully found another Spanish language school that offered a class at the solid intermediate level, of high quality.

Hola Charles y Alicia Thank you for your comments. It is important to tell to the person who read Alicia and Charles comment that we are a school who takes seriously the teaching pedagogy and we try to adapt as much as possible to the students request even if what they ask is very specific as in Alicia and Charles case. If the person who reads this comment wants to know more why Charles and Alicia were disappointed with their second time at our school, here they have an extensive explanation of what happened according to the perspective of the school 1) Alicia and Charles said: Upon arrival we received news that there was no group class at our intermediate level. The school version: Alicia and Charles had requested by email private lessons for their first week because they were arriving at the middle of the week, so it is not true that at their arrival they received the bad news that there was no group with your level. Students who arrive in the middle of the week, it is difficult to integrate them into a group that started on a Monday. 2) Alicia and Charles said: “Semi-private classes were the only recommendation due to our level, we were told.” The school version: Alicia and Charles are a couple who always had requested to be together in a group even if they do not had the same level. Carlos has a beginner level and Alicia has and advance beginner level. We remind to our clients that we do not mix levels. We can put people with a different level (if the difference is small) in a private group only if the clients request to be together even after a suggestion from the teachers that it is better to not be together. We assure all students that they will be evaluated and placed in groups that correspond to their level. 3) Alicia and Charles said: We learned absolutely nothing; it was costly. The Instructor wrote nothing on the board … was unsure of herself or plainly disinterested It is important to explain that Alicia and Charles just wanted to be with the same teacher they had 14 months ago. This teacher was also their online teacher. They told us that they just can learn with him. They were not happy when we told them that this teacher was not available. 14 months ago, the same situation occurred. One day they had a different teacher and they were not happy saying that this new teacher was terrible. As a school who takes seriously the teaching pedagogy, we sell the school method. Our teachers are trained with the method and documents of the school to ensure a quality of teaching no matter who your teacher is. All our teachers work together and proof of this is that the teacher with whom they wanted to be and was not available, worked with the other teacher to do the study program. They told us that they were not learning because they wanted to learn advanced grammar concepts even if they had a beginner level. Finally, our teachers are always in constant use of the board and never use their cell phones in class. Our classrooms always have open doors, so it's easy to see that this is true. 4) Charles said: My wife complained to the director by email, requesting another class option. We subsequently left when no other options were presented. The school version: We had proposed them to continue with the private lessons because they wanted to be together and they were complaining about the program. They were the ones who decide to not continue with the school because they were not happy with the teacher’s job. We totally understand that there could be people who don’t like our teaching method. What we can assure you is that we will do all that is in our hands to propose something adapted to the needs of the students without compromising the quality of the courses. Unfortunately Alicia and Carlos felt cheated even if every day we were in constant communication explaining them their options.

I don't recommend this school for women or transgender people. I had to leave a class early due to the instructor wanting us to play an inappropriate game. When I contacted the school with my concerns, I didn't receive an apology. I requested multiple times to know if they would remove this exercise from their classes and if they would add some kind of policy to prevent this happening in the future. My requests were pointedly ignored.

I will also say that the classes lack structure and their processes are generally pretty disorganized. You may get any given instructor depending on the day and the subject matter may not build on the concepts you learned in the last class. They also don't have enough students to fill their classes so on Sunday they tell you your schedule for the week which may randomly change. This is pretty inconvenient if you're trying to plan other weekly commitments around classes because you may find out at the last minute that your schedule has changed.

However, these issues are secondary to the main one, which is about the school creating a psychologically safe environment for students. I can't emphasize this enough: go elsewhere.

I loved my experience at La Calle! Going into it, I knew a good amount of Spanish, but was struggling to actually speak. The teachers made class fun and exciting, and progressed through new material in a manageable but challenging way. I was there for three weeks and made a lot of friends with fellow students. I highly recommend doing the more intensive classes, as this really pushed my Spanish to the next level. The pool is also gorgeous and a great place to relax after class. Overall, a great experience!

I stayed here for 2 weeks with no skills in Spanish. After the 2 weeks I was able to communicate in the language! Alejandra was the perfect teacher with a lot of patient and varied lessons every day. Very well organized and everyone working here is always friendly and helpful! Enjoyed the delicious food in the small restaurant which is in the school. Preferred, that there has been also „older“ students. Regret that I could not stay longer!

So fun and useful! Attending a couple weeks of Spanish class was a great way to start our trip, and really improved our traveling experience by allowing us to converse with people beyond simple transactions. The school is flexible and accommodating, and classes are entertaining. The immersion style is difficult at first, but ultimately rewarding, as it demonstrates that you can make yourself understood with a little creativity. Optional field trips to a cinema for discussion of movies in Spanish were awesome.

I studied here for two weeks. The focus was on conversation. My spanish level is high intermediate and I was able to improve substantially in my two weeks here. The staff were all friendly and encouraging. The teachers were focused and helpful. The school is perfectly located in Mérida which is a very safe city. There are many restaurants and other places to visit nearby to practice your spanish when school is out for the day. The school exceeded all of my expectations. I came home speaking spanish more fluidly and with more confidence. I would not hesitate to return and highly recommend this school if you want to learn spanish at any level.

Me and my girlfriend just finished 2 intensive weeks here and let me tell you, it was awesome. We started by doing a 5 minute interview then we were all sorted into groups relative to your level.
The atmosphere is great and all the teaches are extremely good at their jobs. It may be slightly difficult speaking no English at first but you get used to it quickly!
You will start at 9am and do 2 hours, followed by a 15 minute break, then another 2 hours. There's always coffee and water available and on Fridays Rachel goes out to by croissants!
We went from speaking no Spanish at all to being able to use it in day to day life.
Miguel, Pablo and Agostin keep doing a great job 👍🏻

I took two weeks of intensive Spanish courses at Calle 55. I am at an intermediate level of Spanish and absolutely believe the two weeks I spent there helped me more than any class I have ever taken in college. The classes are small and you are matched with people of your same level. The instructors are GREAT and the learning process is fun. I felt as though I was coming to visit with my friends for four hours instead of sitting in a boring classroom. That said, even though the classes are fun, the instructors are incredibly savvy at providing structure and concentrating on aspects they feel the students need help with (so you do get necessary grammar and vocabulary). While at the school, I took a guided tour around the Centro in Merida and learned so much about the city's history.

I made several friends while at Calle 55 who were at various levels and I believe they each had an absolutely positive experience. I would certainly recommend this school to anyone looking for a fun, yet productive language learning experience and I look forward to continuing with their staff online.
