Chichen Itza and the Pink pools

5 reviews
We will start this beautiful day picking you up at the meeting point, the goal is arrive to Chichen Itza early, since is the most visited archaeological site. As soon as it´s open (8:00 am) we will have the chance to enjoy the place with less people, have better pictures and take advantage of the refreshing morning. We will stop in a convenience store to grab something to eat. Inside the archaeological site i will explain you the customs, history, and life of the mayan civilization and the city. Afterwards we will drive to a cenote (natural sinkholes) where we´ll have enough time to swimm and cool off in the crystal clear waters of this amazing natural ecosystem. Afterwards we will drive to a little town and eat in a local restaurant where we can find a great variaty of local food and vegetarian options as well. Then we will hit the road again towards north, this time we will visit the salt mines where we can observe the wonderful pink pools and the pink flamingos that inhabit in the biosphere reserve.

Nice tour of the property which gives you a very good understanding how a plantation was run. A buffet lunch is provided with plenty of options to select from.

I just love this place. You could visit the little museum with very antique objects to learn about the lifestyle back in the day. Facilities are impeccable and very well mantained, keeping the feeling of "aged" and lost in time. They even have a cenote and part of was the "henequen" factory. Loved it!

This hacienda was recommended to us by our hotel hostess in Progreso. After visiting a neighbouring hacienda with cenote, we stopped here for lunch. We came just a few muinuts before they opened luckily, as the huge dining area filled up quickly. The grounds are stunning, we could wander through the little museums with beautiful art work, the cenote and theatre area at the back is absolutely beautiful, I bet it would be amazing for concerts. The food in the restaurant was some of the best we have had during our trip, I had a pork dish with tasty sauce, hubby had a shrimp dish with beets which was great. Service was excellent, some English spoken and the prices were very reasonable, less than $30 CAD for 4 beers and 2 entrées. This place is off the beaten path, south of Mericpda, but if you are on the way to Uxmal, or going to a neighbouring hacienda, definitely worth a stop.

Visited for lunch with my family. Friendly staff. Not many food options for vegetarians but still a fun experience.
