This is a pair of two pretty small cenotes suitable if you're passing by on your way to Uxmal or Merida. They're some 10 min drive off road when you turn from the main one.
Entry fee is cheap, around 5$ which gives access to both - one open air and one closed. Due to their size it gets crowded quickly.
I wouldn't advise to drive here only for them as there're far better all over Yucatan, but it's nice to drop by if you're in the area.

It is a small but beautiful cenote. To get to it you have to go through some nature trails and small villages. 2kms before the cenote is the ticket office, 300 pesos per couple and enters the 2 cenotes, the other one is nothing special: small and ungraceful. The vest is not necessary. I recommend bringing booties for any cenote. Prices for foreigners are rising as they go. Keep this in mind if you travel to Mexico.

Stunning cenote. We had a rental car which was extremely advantageous. This cenote is about 70 minute drive from central Mérida. It was well worth the trip. For one fee, you can go to both X’Batan and Dzonbacal. It cost me $100mx and my husband $50mx since he is a Mexican National. If you are, you need Mexican identification or you don’t get the discount. You are allotted 45 minutes at each site, which is adequate time. The waters are crystal clear and you don’t really need a life vest since the water is filled with minerals which keep you afloat. It was a beautiful experience.

Two absolutely beautiful and very different cenotes. One on the surface (not deep) and one subterranean. Not big, however, so get busy fast. $5 entry for both. Limited but acceptable facilities. Do shower before you go in - other guests did not and the water was full of suncream which is pretty awful considering how much wildlife there is to see! We saw frogs, bats, parrots, oriols, lots of various fish - worth showering for.

There are heaps of cenotes about an hour out of Merida and they are far more interesting than things currently rated above it here! Take a tour if you must or grab a 22 peso bus out to Homun where you can bargain with a mototaxi guy to take you around to any of the numerous awesome cenotes and caves nearby.
The water is amazingly blue and clear, the scenery eerie and cool and the caves awesome to climb and explore. There are different activities at each of the cenotes like swing ropes, diving, cave climbing etc.
Highly rate this for all types of people- not just "outdoorsy"- and a fantastic change up on the camera roll from pictures of cathedrals and municipal buildings...

It is certainly worth the trip from Mérida to visit these (and other cenotes). But the photo here is NOT X Batun, it is 800 meters away and called Cenote Dzonbakal. Dzonbakal is really great, a cave open to the sky with sparkling water and a fantastic atmosphere. X Batun has a beautiful setting -- with vines and twisting trees, but the water is shallow, rocky, and not nearly as great as Dzonbakal. Visit both, but if you love the lead photo, make sure you head a bit further to take in Dzonbakal.

While these cenotes are indeed pretty, and so much so that they have been used in music videos and telenovelas, the overcrowding is constantly getting worse. I strongly discourage anyone from visiting them (there are two) on weekends or holidays during warm weather. It will not be idyllic, it will not be peaceful and it will certainly hold no magic. The water is stirred up and cloudy from hundreds of feet, as there is no control over how many people can get in at any one time. The more the merrier. It's all about making as much money as possible and to hell with the experience of the user.
I suggest capping the number of people allowed in the cenote at any one time and raising the entry fee, along with establishing a time limit. There are just too many people now and so the old rules (welcome everyone, stay as long as you like) are no longer viable.

We booked a bike tour through Carnival Cruise Lines to do while in Progresso. My suggestion is to definitely book something... there is not a lot to do at this stop.
We traveled about one hour by van to the bike location where we were given a bike and a helmet. The biking was fairly easy but if you are out of shape, it may be considered strenuous. We visited two cenotes that were gorgeous and refreshing to swim in. Snorkeling gear was provided. On the way back to the bike location, we stopped to eat. Local women were in the kitchen preparing three different authentic tapas. All were delicious. We had a great time and got some great pictures.

This cenote is a trek to get to but well worth the drive! An open air cenote makes for beautiful pictures of the pristine water and flora. If you have access to a car and are up for an adventure this trip is highly recommended! Look for the exit off of highway 261 that says "Cacoa".

When you come into town on the right is a complex with a large sign that you must stop at to pay,50p per person, continue on through the small town, turn right at the store and stop at the gate to give the man your tickets. Down a dirt road, and when we were there, through thousands of butterflies flying and perched on the road, on the right is the first of two cenotes, fairly small but several places to sit and nice cool water, most of it is shallow with one deep spot. The second cenote further down the road is reached by some steep stairs, almost completely cover by a roof of stone. As you step into the deep cold water you can see that the cave extends back about 50 ft with nooks and cranny's in the back. way in the back with the aid of a flashlight there is a shelf that extend another 12ish feet back that happens to have bats. Cool! No seating in this one just put your stuff on the ground and jump in

Hola!
