About Mérida Eats!
Allison Morrill & Cliff Rugg first came to Mérida on our honeymoon in 1979! In 2004 we bought our home here. We recently retired but still summer in Maine, USA (grandkids rule!). Cliff is an avid gardener and amateur chef; Allison is his chief taster. We enjoy dining at Mérida restaurants of all kinds, and we started a weekly supper club. Mérida Eats! Food Tours is a way we can give back to this wonderful community, while sharing our passion for the richness of Mérida's cuisine and culture.

Merida Eats did a fabulous job of working with all of the restaurants we visited on the tour to make sure that my need to have gluten-free dishes was met. All of the dishes were delicious and, except for one, were served at the same time the other guests were served. Allison and Cliff Morrill do a wonderful job organizing the tour and provided lots of interesting tidbits about Maya history, culture, and especially the food. The restaurants visited were within easy walking distance of one another. The schedule was well-paced so that no one felt rushed or over-stuffed at any one time. All of the chefs came to the table and talked about the food, history, development of the restaurant's concept, etc. What I appreciated the most was that 100% of the ticket sales goes to the support of local restaurants, guides, and local charities. We will be taking another tour when we come back to Merida.

I grew up in Merida but have been living abroad for 15 years. So I was very excited to be a tourist in my hometown. Needless to say, I came back multiple times to the stops we made during the tour and recommended it to all my friends in Merida north.

We wish we had taken the seafood tour as soon as we arrived in Merida. Each of the restaurants we visited were unique, the service fantastic and the food delicious. Added to that...the insights on the culture of Merida and it's cuisine provided by Anna Paulina and Cliff throughout our time together was much appreciated. We would highly recommend this tour. Thanks!!

The tour was lots of fun, and the restaurants were all very good. We ate generous portions of excellent Yucatan food accompanied by local drinks and even a cocktail at one restaurant. We were able to eat outside in lovely courtyards at some of the restaurants. We were given a brochure listing the names of the restaurants, so I was able to return for more delicious food soon after. The tour gives great insight into the food of Yucatan. Don’t eat too much before you go, and enjoy a very pleasant and informative afternoon .

Truly a unique experience. Easy walking tour with an extraordinary guide to explore the treasures of restaurants that offer some of the best seafood in Mérida. The super interesting cocktails included definitely added a nice touch to the overall group spirit of the diverse people attending. Not to be missed if you desire a delicious and well thought out excursion into the heart of Mérida’s top restaurants. An easy walk with a small group through the historic center having a local guide that will answer your every question. Book in advance especially for the cruise ship days to secure a wonderful day off the boat to understand the reason Mérida was chosen by Condé Nast readers as the best small city of the year.
