About
Visit La Posheria, house of a mayan traditional beverage: Pox Bankilal (pronounced "posh"). This is a drink made out of corn and we offer five flavours: White traditional, black traditional, coffee, coconut, vanilla and cacao. In La Posheria you can also find our coffee, brought directly from the highlands of Chiapas. Come to La Posheria and have a taste of this spiritual journey now in Merida.

Our group stopped in during a recent visit to Merida. It is located right along Pasejo de Montejo, and is a perfect stop to get out of the sun when you are going for a walk down the road there.
We got a short introduction to learn what Pox is and where it is made. Of course we all decided to try a taste of this corn based liquor!
If you are not much of a fan of spirits, go for one of the flavored ones. For those not into alcohol at all, there are a lot of hand made crafts all over the shop. Some of our group did leave with a few momentos.
Posheria is definitely worth checking out when in Merida. If you are the pretentious type, you can even bring this up to all your friends and acquaintances when they start talking about tequila and mezcal!

We wanted to try pox, so we headed to this place. Store looks great, and the guy selling was really knowledgeable about these drinks. There are lots of nice crafts too but we just bought 2 types of the drinks. They sell in small bottles (50ml) which you can take in your carry-on luggage

We experienced a wonderful place in Merida that was fulled with handmade crafts from the locals. We walked away with several items including a silver box with a mirror. We tried the specialty coffee with Pox made of corn. Delightful. Definitely a place to see.

I purchased a finely woven runner. The quality of cotton and weaving is high. But the dyes are not natural which does not matter for most. I would encourage the Mayan weaving community to move to more authentic natural dyes. The Turkish DOBAG weaving project switched to natural dyes and their rugs are truly collector items.

We visited other shops featuring Yucatecan handicrafts in Merida, but this was our favorite. Well-located on the Paseo de Montejo, it's an easy stop during a hot day. And it features some unusual items.
I bought several loosely woven tote bags made from maguey, a type of cactus: they'll be perfect for farmers' market shopping trips.
But the totes weren't the only usual items on offer. You can taste (and buy) spirits -- Pox Bankilal, a traditional corn liquor that comes in a variety of flavors (vanilla, cinnamon, and others). The shop also offers coffee from Chiapas.
We talked with Julio, the owner, who was helpful, friendly, and totally enthusiastic about the products in the store.

This is such a great find in Merida! We had tried pox from Chiapas before but were unaware it was also produced in Yucatán. Beautiful store, delicious (and refreshing!) drinks and excellent service from Laura who explained the process and the provenance of the handcrafts in the store. A perfect place to stop and enjoy a few shots before carrying on with your visit.

We stumbled across Posheria during our stroll Paseo de Montejo. A must walk street when in Merida. Posheria is a quaint cafe specializing in coffee drinks, whole bean coffee, some artisan goods and a specialty liquor, Pox. They offer tasting samples. It’s similar to a Sambuca with an anise flavor. You can get it as is or with flavors added, like honey. It’s strong. We had an iced coffee. Was a nice alternative to Starbucks. Which is right across the street. We stopped in a few days later to get a few bags of their whole been coffee. Trying to support local. It’s worth stopping.

The handcrafted textiles are gorgeous. The information about Posh and the history of Posh is very interesting. I recommend a stop at POSHERIA

We visited having read good reviews about it. It’s a nice little store - the guy there (did not get name!) was friendly and spoke fantastic English to tell us all about Pox and it’s origins and let us taste some different ones. We ended up taking 2 bottles home! There are some nice little bags / purses and even coffee too from the Campeche region should you wish to buy any additional gifts. Go if you can!

I couldn't agree more with the other reviewers on here. Posheria is a fab little bottleshop/cafe, the chiapas coffee and cold brew is absolutely delicious and the beautiful surroundings in the shop offer a welcome respite from the Merida heat. If you're into local food and drink you must try the liquor (Pox) before you leave Southern Mexico, and this is the best place to do so, with a wide range of both flavoured and unflavoured spirits. Last but not least, the guy running the shop is possibly the friendliest Mexican I met (and he had stiff competition!). Super helpful, and happy to impart great local advice. If I ever return to Merida I'll definitely be back here!
