About
Just a short ferry ride from Cancun, this stunning stretch is known for its crystal clear turquoise waters and lush palm trees. Lounge on the soft white sand, take a dip in the warm Caribbean Sea, and have fun with beach activities like jet-skiing and parasailing. Book a snorkeling tour to see an array of marine life at the nearby coral reef or a whale shark tour during the summer months. Playa Norte is also home to beach clubs and bars, and restaurants serving traditional Mexican cuisine and seafood. If you can't get enough, consider staying at one of the no-frills beach hotels. – Tripadvisor

    Fabulous!
Amazing beautiful white sand beach with calmer shallow water. Many boats pull up so it does get a bit crowded. The beach is accommodated by many restaurants offering lounger and umbrella rentals as well as bar and restaurant service, beachside. Great way to have your own excursion! Take a taxi there and rent a chair and umbrella. Or go the local way and bring your towel or blanket, sit in the shade of a palm tree and drink beer from your cooler. Muy bueno!

    Not Enough Time
It was a beautiful day and a fantastic beach. The crystal clear water was fascinating to my wife. She usually only goes ankle deep in the water, but went out much farther. The beach was crowded, but not so much that we could not enjoy. It was our fault that we only had a short day. We plan to return and spend much more time.

Constant threat of being ripped off and constantly harassed by street vendors. Would not recommend.
Beautiful beaches but not a fan of this place. Constantly getting harassed by street vendors constantly. They don’t take no for an answer and they’re all trying to rip you off. Cabs are different prices from day-to-day. You have to be on high alert here or you’ll get ripped off. I’ll never come back here.

    Every shade of blue!
Our first time to Isla and Playa Norte did not disappoint. We arrived on February 16 and were here for a week. The water is a bit cooler than I would have liked, but it felt refreshing after a long day in the sun. This beach provides every shade of blue you can imagine, it’s beautiful. There are several beach clubs along the beach. We used, Guru, Green Demon and Mayan Beach Club. I would use any of them again and they are all priced about the same. We enjoyed food and drinks at all three clubs and everything that we tried ordered was very good. What impressed me the most was how good the service was at each beach club. The waiters were incredibly attentive and friendly. I can’t wait to visit again!

Best beach ever, the island is nothing but love. It’s Mexico but there’s so many people from all over the world it’s really a melting pot of cultures. So many people come here on vacation and get stuck and can’t leave. I’m one of those people. @Partymonster.isla hmu for any information or things to do here on the island. 6 years I’ve been here now.

    Worth the visit
There are two main beaches on the Island. They are in the Centro area. Public beaches are free to use /walk or put a chair down. Most place have lounges that you can rent for the day for approximately 600 pesos a day which will have a combination of chair , umbrella and food/ beverage purchase included. The beaches themselves are soft and sandy the water glorious.

Crystal clear, turquoise waters. White sand with many palm trees.
Playa Norte is stunning. Palm trees line the coast with perfect white sand and crystal clear, warm turquoise waters. I highly recommend stopping at the beach here if you are in Isla Mujeres because it will be one of the best beaches you have ever been too.

We went to a public beach on Playa Norte. Was very nice shallow waters with white soft sand. I've been spoiled seeing countless beaches around the world so this was OK for me. Not spectacular but nice. Unfortunately MXN dude approaches us and is insisting that we pay 400 MXN pesos ($30 CND) for a lounger that we were not using. We had our own blanket and umbrella. He went and got another friend from a restaurant and both of them tried bullying us off the beach and kept saying we cant use our umbrella. After about 15 mins pestering us I told him it is a public beach! Unless he showed me in writing a law that states we can not use our own umbrella and blanket then back off or call the PoPo. After that he left us alone. Unfortunately Quintana Roo, Mexico has become very expensive. No one is starving. No beggers. No homeless, which is a good thing but at the great expense of the touristas.

The island is just 7 kilometer road. You can rent a golf cart for 4 people for 150 pesos per hour (8 dlls per hour) or "negotiate a better deal for 3 or 4 hour. You drive around and stop on any place to enjoy the nice sand

A spacious beach covered in a beautiful white sand. Take along a towel and enjoy the water. Easy access. We all appreciated the chance to relax after a long walk from the opposite end of he island which I also recommend. You will have to rent a chair and umbrella if you want one but will make your stay more comfortable if you have a little shade.

This beach is beautiful but also very busy as most tourists stay in the north. The buoys stop you from passing the boat so the water you have access to doesn't go past standing height. This is the best place for sunrises as you will get an unobstructed view of the sunset and have access to the warm water to swim in. If you have the opportunity, I would recommend spending your days at the beaches on west/south part of the island at beach clubs. You get free access, only having to pay for drinks and reserved seating if you choose you want either. These beaches are just as beautiful but much quieter and relaxing. You will also have access to amenities such as pools and water activities.

The Beach is really amazing but the parasol rent value was too expensive like 450 pesos. If you like empty beachs such as a paradise this is not the deal for you. It's totally crowded and every 5 minutes a person come to you to offer a massage.

I have been to Playa Norte probably 20 times or more in my life since the mid 90’s. It is an absolutely beautiful beach with shallow, turquoise waters, flour-like white sand and little to no seaweed. It has always been more crowded over the past couple of years but this year was substantially worse. By far, the worst part is that there are now a large number of boats and yachts that come to the beach and drop anchor just past the swimming barrier. This is the first time that I have seen this, maybe a newer thing since Covid? Not sure. A lot of them blast music so people on the beach and swimmers are forced to listen to several different boat’s music all at once, not fun. Also, the boats really ruin the view for the beach goers. Still a beautiful beach, but something needs to be done about this issue, especially the noise. I counted around 20 boats on weekdays and close to 50 on Friday and Saturday.

We rented 2 bedroom condos at Nautibeach ( #5 and #6), which is a smaller, intimate development in the middle of this beautiful area. Swimming pool is just off the beach, and there are comfortable lounge chairs and security on site. It is walking distance to shopping and restaurants in town and on the beach. The hosts are responsive to all requests and make your stay easy and comfortable. The beach can get a bit crowded, but the water is perfect- and walking along the beach less crowded areas can be found.

If you like really loud music, sitting 2 feet from the person next to you, during COVID, not good, how is this allowed??? and not very clear water, you will like this place.
We went on Sunday to try it. The Ferry ride over was great and fun. Then we walked to the beach. We were so disappointed because we read such good reviews. The water is not crystal clear and very cloudy and the beach clubs has obnoxious people playing very loud music, so if you want to sit on a beach and relax, it's impossible. One guy had a boombox playing very loud rock and roll. Do you really want to sit next to this guy. Do you think the patrons of the beach club would tell him to turn down the volume. No. So this place is for people who like all of above. We went around the corner and the water was lovely, the beach wasn't that crowded and it was way better than Playa Norte. They need to change a few things there.

Playa Norte is beautiful and is the best beach on all of Isla Mujeres. Walkable from the ferry dock, all hotels on that end, and Hildalgo Street (main restaurant/entertainment). Water is clear and mostly clear of seaweed. One area, near Mia Reef, still had sargassum from recent hurricane, but workers were clearing it up actively all week. Lovely calm shallower water. You have to walk a long way in before you get up to your shoulders. Sorry nothing to see if snorkeling, but good place to practice. Many boats are docked and partying within walking distance out in the water. Many beach clubs and places offering lounge chair and umbrellas. All the places close up around 5-6 so if you plan to stay longer, I suggest bringing your own like we did. You can still patron the beach clubs for food and drink though. No minimums that way. Local food and merchandise vendors walk the sand as well. A simple No Gracious deters them. Fantastic way to spend your vacation.

We stayed at Nautibeach condos right on this beautiful beach. The condo complex is in a perfect location with easy access to both the beach and nearby bars and restaurants. The complex grounds and pool are gorgeous and our 2 bedroom condo was clean and comfortable with a large balcony overlooking the pool and beach. The beach gets crowded but the condos always have beach chairs for the guests. There are also showers to rinse off as you leave the beach. A lot of boats, some private and others paid tours, anchor just offshore so people can get off and swim. It can be a bit annoying if those boats play loud music since there is also music coming from the nice restaurant on the beach next to the condos. The water in front of this part of the beach is gently sloping sand so snorkeling isn't really an option but it is perfect for swimming and wading. This is a great option for families with small children or teens.
