We’ve been to Isla Mujeres 4 times in the past 16 years and won’t be back. It was always a great little island to visit, but not anymore. The ferry over and back was packed. The island is bumper to bumper golf carts. The point no longer has the metal art and the restaurant at the point isn’t worth going to. It’s still good to walk around the rocks where the art use to be. I hate to see this little island in the condition it’s in.

Golf cart tour. You must visit Burrocho Burro Cantina.bar and grill. This place is an outside bar that has live music and authentic out of this world food. It’s on the further side of the island out of the way and was a Gem Find. We spent the entire afternoon there. Great atmosphere clean bathrooms. 1/2 pound burger was to die for. Cheap prices and staff was amazing. We were a group of 8 and it was the highlight of our 7 day trip.

I booked an excursion with Isla Mujeres Trips for the Tulum Mayan Ruins/ Coba Ruins/ Cenote day trip on May 3, 2022. When we were picked up and met with the group, we (my boyfriend and I) realized our tour was outsourced to a company called Cocay. No real problem with that idea, but I didn't know that was going to happen. Just an FYI for future customers. There were quite a few issues with the excursion so I'll list them in bullet points. 1) Our tour guide Jerry Garcia with Cocay refused to stop so we could use the bathroom. So a 25 minute ferry ride from Isla Mujeres, 1 hour picking up the group, and 2 hours to Tulum, we were not allowed to use the bathroom. We asked and Jerry said "We will stop as soon as we can" and he never stopped. It was a painful ride. When we got to Tulum, my boyfriend was visibly in pain and Jerry just pointed out where the bathrooms were without apologizing. We were scared about drinking water for the reminder of the day because we were unsure when we'd be able to use the bathroom again. 2) During the Tulum Mayan ruins tour, Jerry spoke down to use like we were dumb students that didn't study for a test. We wanted to learn about Mayan people and culture, and we were made to feel like idiots. We were also the only english speakers in the group and sometimes Jerry forgot to translate for us. (That part isn't a complaint exactly, I took myself to a country where I didn't know the language and it was bound to happen. Just an FYI.) 3) The Cenote/Lunch. Lunch was included in the price of the excursion, but yet a waiter chased us down afterwards to charge us for water. I don't think anyone else was charged for water. (The food was very good.) Swimming in the cenote was also included in the price of the excursion, yet the mandatory life vests cost $6. We decided not to swim because at that point we realized we were being scammed. The property itself seemed a bit shady. The property was unmarked and the road it was on was unmarked. The cenote had a lot of trash behind a retaining wall and a lot of flies. It was NOT an awe-inspiring cenote that you would see when googling cenotes or tourist vlogs. 4) Coba Ruins. Due to time, we only had 30 minutes to explore the Coba Ruins. It wasn't enough time to properly take the 3 mile hike to the archeological site and climb it, so we stayed near the entrance. The ruins near the entrance were pretty amazing so that part was nice. The issue was, during that time, Jerry was in the parking lot in another tour groups van drinking beer with their driver. (Not our driver, thankfully) 6) The day was incredibly long and we still had the 30 minute Playa Del Carmen shopping trip. Jerry tried to make it an hour (Maybe why we only got 30 mins at the Coba Ruins?) but the entire group rejected that idea and kept it at 30 mins. 7) Jerry instructed the driver to pull over at one point so he could buy a tiny children's size blue armchair from a roadside vendor. Remind you, he wouldn't stop so we could use the bathroom, but he can make stops to buy children's furniture. 8) When dropping off members of the group, Jerry got out at one of the hotel stops so he could use the bathroom. I guess the beer got to him. And again, he didn't stop when we asked to use the bathroom. Can you tell I'm bitter about that? 9) Our driver seemed nice and responsible. He had an incredibly long day and got us home safely. We tipped him. We did NOT tip Jerry. To summarize my day, Mayan culture and Mayan people are amazing. The ruins were amazing. I wish we had a better tour guide so we could learn more. Jerry is THE WORST. Even if we had an amazing tour guide with no issues, people coming from Cancun/Isla Mujeres need to keep in mind that it's an incredibly long day. I honestly think dinner should be included in a day that long. We didn't get back to our hotel until 10 pm. 7am-10 pm, the day was exhausting. If anyone else decides to do this tour, bring snacks and don't drink any liquids.

We travelled to Club Med Cancun the week of April 25th, 2022 and wanted to take an excursion. We decided on the catamaran tour to Isla Mujeres because it allowed us to bring our 3 year old along. Adrien and his team on the Color Del Caribe were lovely! They made sure that we felt safe with our small child aboard their boat. We had a wonderful time. Adrien in particular went above and beyond the expected by following up with us the next day through the excursion office. Merci!

Isla Contoy trip definitely recommended. As promised a boat of about 25/30 passengers rather than 60 on some tours. Two excellent and friendly guides. The one I had for the island walkabout was very knowledgeable. Beach time, short walking tour on permitted paths, good lunch and a surprisingly interesting guided snorkel with a barracuda on view. Excellent value and a great day out.
