Well worth the entrance fee to spend time in the eco-park. We are birdwatchers and loved seeing flamingoes and other birds in the laguna and also the (included in price of admission) boat ride with a very knowledgeable guide. We also enjoyed the nature walk near the lighthouse and George was an excellent bird guide. The little museum was interesting too - plenty to do for a day's outing to this park - including cafes and enjoying the beach.

This place has, by a country mile, the best beach in Cozumel.

The beach is around 2 miles from the Beach Park entrance and the lighthouse. It's about 300 metres to the right of the Anemona de mar Beach Club. It's a wide empty stretch of white powdery sand with gorgeous water and nothing remotely like the waters you see on your way in to the Beach Park, which are average at best.

The cost of entering the Park is 300 pesos per person (£12 UK, at 25 pesos to the £)

Getting to the beach requires transport of some sort. It's about 50 minutes to an hours drive from Cozumel to reach here.

It's easy enough to organise this in Cozumel or at your accommodation.

You can hire your own transport, or get a taxi, BUT, make sure you ask them to come back for you in a few hours (around 300 pesos each way. That's 600 pesos all in, about £25 UK for a return journey, and that's for everyone, not per person), or strike a deal with your accommodation, like we did at the Villa Segovia. (Excellent place to stay in San Miguel, Cozumel)

You definitely need transport organised, as there are next to no taxis hanging around and it's a long hot walk back for 2 miles to the entrance, which rarely has taxis either, and an even longer way back to Cozumel, which is about 25 miles away!

Once you get to the beach there's a very good chance you'll have it all to yourselves, all day long. This place hasn't been discovered yet, and i strongly advise you get there before it is. It definitely won't look remotely the same in the years to come. It's a slice of paradise untouched.

There is the Anemona de mar Beach Club nearby, should you fancy a bite to eat or a drink, or you can take your own food and drink there and have a beach picnic.

This beach is a must see on a visit to Cozumel. None of the other beaches, Palancar included, come close to it's beauty. Go there before it's too late and it's overrun with tourists, and all the facilities that go with it. You won't regret it.

The $16 per person to get in is really not that bad given all that you get out of it. The drive along the coast was spectacular. You have to go a bit slow but that's because there is iguana and crocodile crossings along the way. And they are very serious, I had to stop several times.

We didn't do the boat tour but will when we go back. But the nature hikes and wildlife viewing were amazing. I highly recommend taking the nature hike behind the ruins. It not very long but beautiful and there is a Cenote at the end.

The biggest downside is the competing beach clubs. The minute you get out of your car they are on you. "Sit on this side and only order from me because my prices are better." The chairs are free and you can sit wherever you want, but these guys can be kinda pushy. The food is expensive and not great but it did the job.

SCAM ALERT!!! We ordered chips and guacamole, they brought out salsa too which was cool, but then they charged us for it. $7 for salsa was insane. They also have life jackets that are required if you want to swim past the coral. 1 is free for 1 hour, the other is $7 per person for the day. We told the guy we wanted one each for the hour. When we went to cash out at the end we were charged the $14 anyway. After my husband brought this to their attention and after a bit of back in forth they finally took it off. Just be careful what you ask for and make sure what they are charging you for.

Overall a wonderful place to spend the day.

Overpriced. Not much to see for $16/person -- a lighthouse, a beach, a lagoon with hardly any animal life (during a boat ride, the guide struggled very hard to show us a crocodile to no avail). Be aware that the beach club's waiting stuff overcharges customers for food and drinks. They also give you a check in dollars converted from pesos using a bogus exchange rate and claim that their system charges 10% fee if you pay with a credit card.

Thank you for your visit to Punta Sur ... we regret that you have had a bad situation in the park with one of our dealers, we always recommend that you pay in cash so that no additional charges apply. We would also appreciate if you could provide us with the information of the restaurant where you were to be able to give you a correct follow-up. We hope to see you very soon in our other parks.

Once was a must do when in Cozumel, not so much anymore says Captain Glen D. Smith.

Yes, this is one of the top three beaches on the island but things have changed. As a visitor to Cozumel of over 14 trips over twenty years I have been to this park/beach an easy 20 times but the changes have been dramatic. It no longer has that quite perfect beach atmosphere anymore. The little family beach hut that served food and drink is gone and replaced with two competing “Beach clubs” that will chase you down as you enter and ‘Guide you” to “Their side” to serve you. There is a clear competition and you will feel this. The beach chairs are lined up in rows from the water’s edge to the service buildings 6 to 8 rows deep. I guess if I had not experienced the beauty and peacefulness of this park for so many years I would not feel so offended as I do now. So, go and experience just be ready for the crowded beach clubs. The water and the beach are a 5 Star. It is just the experience that has changed. Price to get in to the park is now 16 dollars a person and that is just for entry. You cannot bring food, drink and/or a cooler anymore so bring lots of cash.

Captain Glen D. Smith.

The lighthouse was awesome and the snorkeling was great here. We came when there were no cruise ships coming to the island and I think we were charged a little more than normal. It seemed ver pricey once you are in the gate. We had two drinks, pineapple that was uneatable and i rented a surf ski for 30 min and the bill was $136us. I didn’t complain about it mainly because the place was empty because of no cruise ships. The beach was great the sights were great. Make sure you stop at the lighthouse and the observation tower and say hello to the two crocs that are underneath the boardwalk. I would do this again just keep better track of what i was spending.

I think the varied reviews are based on what the expectation is. I didn't mind paying the $17 pp entrance fee to support the park operations, but expect to pay that in CASH. Got there early to do the lighthouse before anyone else. Spent 15 minutes in the small museum, which is all you need. Took the short nature walk from the lighthouse to see a crocodile and a turtle in a pond, an unimpressive cenote, and climb up a little observation post. Wear bug spray here. Went to beach early so got lounge in front and just expected to buy a round of drinks and a little food (about $15 per dish). Snorkeling not great except for my "chased by a grumpy barracuda" life experience. Cozumel has better snorkeling elsewhere without the long swim. Quite a distance from shore to reef. Beach was nice- better before the cruise groups got there. Did not do boat tour on lagoon though it was included in entry fee. We spent a few hours there and enjoyed it and recommend it.

This place deserves a stop if you are touring the island! its $16 per person to enter and its a 6 mile drive along the ocean to the beach, 3 miles to lighthouse stop, 3 more miles to beach and restaurants. beach has chairs and cabanas along with a very calm snorkel beach that is MASSIVE. you can eat on site and spend a whole day here.

Worth going for the day.....relax, swim, snorkle, snacks....walk to the lighthouse.....amazing. We brought our own snorke gear but you can use what they have as well. There is a fee to enter the park but $25 bucks is worth the beauty.

It’s actually very easy to get to. It’s a very peaceful beach that still offers some luxury of beach side service with lounge chairs, bar and restaurant.. There are several activities and viewpoints to keep you busy and enjoying nature.

Tip- It takes about an hour if you drive yourself. Recommend taking a tour trip as alternative, but give yourself time. Park closes about 4pm.
