Word of warning to all in this group. Free tours are never free. We went on a tour yesterday that was included in our transportation purchase. If the tour tells you it includes a stop to Hacienda Museum (Glorified gift shop with a tequila section) and Matis Jewerly store (Said Silver Jewelry Store on our guide) run far away from the jewelry store. The jewelry is fake.
I did buy a ring for myself and my daughter, and no sooner got back to resort and a stone fell out. Clearly poor quality. Won't even attempt to contact them based on the reviews here. Will chalk it up to live and learn. Trying to save others from the scam and money lost. I didn't pay a lot in my view but it was still way too much!
The other place we went was actually wonderful, and the people were great called Boca Del Puma! They have spider monkeys you can hold and pet, two cenotes (one open, one cave), ATV's, Ziplining, and some wonderful people that work there. We really enjoyed this part! ❤

The hotel endorsed this excursion. Arrival was late, then we were loaded in the back of a pick up truck to the plaza which was dirty. We never saw the tequila factory and the free tequila was a tiny bottle of vanilla flavoring which I called them out on. After waiting for over one hour, we were driven downtown for shopping. We arrived at the meeting point 30 minutes early, but the van never showed up - even after waiting 2 hours. When we got back to the hotel (Dream Resorts in Can Cun), we complained. They refunded our money and gave us a huge bottle of authentic tequila. I suggest you never go on this trip and steer clear of this money pit. We were put out to sea and then left out to dry in a foreign country to fend for ourselves. I have one word for Can Cun and that is adios!

Returned from my trip from Riviera Maya on January 18 and 1 week later: my 110$ US ring lost 2 stones. Very poor quality. It is a shame that Grand Bahia Principe endorse this company on their hotel site. Very disappointed.

Well.......I bought a ring the last week if April 2021...I wore It for the first time today.June 16 2021. I lost a small stone. Guess I should have read the reviews prior to spending $316 on this so called Emerald ring. Doubt if it's even real....

Different store - we visited the one near Puerto Moreles but definitely scammed. Sold an apparently "silver" ring but it's a mess of colours after only half dozen times of wearing it. It was part of a free trip organised by Dreams Riviera Cancun resort and spa and included trip to the jewellery store and a tequila tasting, then into Playa del Carman. Very poor that this trip is offered by the hotel

Salesperson lied about origin of stones, although they were lovely she said they were from Mexico, but in reality are from turkey. Unethical behavior was disappointing.

We visited this "factory" (more of a large shop where they manufacture on site) back in 2014 whilst we were on holiday in Rivera Maya. Unbeknowst to me at the time, we were engagement ring shopping. The travel was free from our hotel and we decided to go and have a look. The staff are very friendly and welcoming and the premises are massive. We had the introductory talk and then we were given time to look at the different jewellry. The middle section of the shop is dedicated to semi-precious stones (amber, amethyst etc..) set in some stunning jewelry and we bought a set for my daughter who was house sitting for us. And then there are the rooms with locked doors...... Oh My Goodness!! The jewelry in these rooms is absolutely stunning. We had been looking in the UK at one particular stone which was Tanzanite. They had a whole room dedicated to it (Tanzanite is becoming quite rare) and we fell in love with a piece that had been designed at the factory. Needless to say it was purchased and we were engaged. They even took it and adjusted it for us whilst we waited. We purchased a couple of other pieces too (watches). We were very pleased with the price for the ring given the quality and setting. The following day, back at the hotel, we were on the internet and having googled the shop to write a nice review, came across a tirade of vitriol from people who claimed it was junk. You can imagine how devastated we both were given this was my engagement ring? We went back the following day and had a rather heated discussion with Mr Cohen, who was lovely and spent a rather long time talking to us, giving us tea and assuring us and even showed us in the workshop the tests to prove the gold etc.. He guaranteed us that if we had it tested when we got home and had any problems he would refund us 100% without quibble. It put quite a dampener on our celebrations and is something I cannot forgive the people who wrote such rubbish for!! Needless to say, we got home and sent it to the assay office for testing and stamping and for confirmation that it was tanzanite and diamonds as described. It is exactly as we were told it was at the shop. For ever doubting Mr Cohen and the lovely sales assistant who served us we are very sorry. We love the ring and are hoping that they will be able to help us with a bespoke wedding ring to match for our wedding next year. Thank you again Matis

Our tour agency offered us a free 3 hour shopping tour to Playa del Carmen.
We would only have to visit a silver store and a tequila factory 45m each. As this was free and the taxi from our hotel was about 800pesos total we acceppted the offer. We were suppossed to be back to the hotel for lunch.
We first visited Matis' where we were required to "check in", were assigned numbers and sent through the store with your own seller whose objective is to sell you something.
They have some curious items and always say that the price is very cheap but I don't agree and I think that most items are overpriced and from a dubious origin. Don't hesitate to say "no", don´t spend too much time in there and walk out.
When you are done there, they load you into a passenger "wagon" pulled by an SUV and drive you 400 metres to their tequila "factory". We were expecting a real factory where we could see the production and learn something but it is just another store. Once more you have a private seller whose objective is to sell you tequila. They have a large selection of different tequilas and you can taste them, but they still only want your dollar and they make sure that you spend to much time sitting there waiting for your bus to come back and pick you up.
The bus was soo late that we only had 2h in playa del carmen and had to lunch there as we arrived at the hotel 1h30 after lunch (we had to stop in 3 hotels before ours - 1h drive). So, think twice before acceppt these offers.

I bought my wife a ring there for our 25th anniversary and also purchased a ring for my daughter as well. A week after we returned to the U.S. stones had fallen out of the rings already. There is no way of contacting them for a reply. PLEASE...don't get caught up in the scam for free shopping tour. Their merchandise is absolutely Mexican junk. I should have known better but was caught up in the moment.
If you feel a need to take the tour, walk in and walk out. Don't get suckered!

A stop over to Matis. They dont give you a wifi password so you can check what you are buying. fake colour changing rings. They sell them to you as semi precious stones but are fake as hell. Made of glass. Dont buy anything from these guys. You save a few bucks on a free trip but get ripped of 10 * more. Take the trip but dont buy anything. just enjoy their sales tactics and move on. We spent approx $500.00 but after doing some more research. Rings are worth less then 10$ each. Huge ripoff store.
