We had a group of 8 people and BlueH20/Ocean Tours Riviera Maya was so accommodating! Their communication while pre-booking the trip was incredible. They communicated everything we would need and even checked in a few days before our trip to confirm everything and make sure they had it correct. Since we had a larger group, they worked with us and gave us a small discount. We didn't even ask for it! They provide transportation to and from the excursion, a small breakfast, lunch and a snack at the Isla Mujeres. The tour was absolutely incredible. Our tour guide, Diana, loved her job and it showed! Our boat captain,Sergio, was always smiling, played great music and even let us take a 3rd jump with the whale sharks. When you are finished with the whale sharks they take you to the Isla of Mujeres for snorkeling. This is an excursion I would recommend to EVERYONE! Swimming next to a whale shark was an amazing experience.

Went on a whale shark tour with Blue H2o and I would like to give them my best review. We were 7 people that planned to go, but because both my kids got ear infections, we had to split and ended up going on 3 different tours, and all of us had amazing trips. Jose, my contact at Blue H2o, was so helpful and so flexible. I had to cancel the first tour because of my oldest son and his ears. Then a storm was coming and then my other son got ear infection and I had to cancel him. And all the way Jose did eveything he could, so we could go separately and kept me in the loop about thw weather. It was obvious he wanted us to have the best tour with the best weather and with best chances of seeing whale sharks, so we have been on contact daily for weeks (we are travelling for 2 months, so no rush with the tour).
The tours we were on were amazing. The crew was fantastic and very professional. We all felt in such good hands and really felt they wanted to give us a good tour. They made sure we would go in the water, right in front of the whale shark, so we got to see the shark really close from both the front, side and above. I had 2 really good jumps in the water.
This tour was once in a lifetime for us, so I spend a lot of time researching tour agencies to make sure we went with the best company, and I am so glad I did this research and went with Blue H2o. Blue H2o has both a cancellation policy and a whale shark guarantee - be aware that most tour companies don´t have this, and it is something I would really recommend, because you never know what is going to happend and each day on the water is different.

I can't tell you how amazing our time with John was. We were in Cozumel for 8 days in December 2020 and wanted to get in as many dives as possible, since my children (11 and 12) had only been certified a few weeks prior.
As you can imagine, with new and young divers I wanted to find the perfect dive lead and a small group setting. When I called John he talked to me for a long time and agreed to meet me at the condo we were renting to discuss and plan multiple days of diving and snorkeling with other family members. He put an entire package together at such a great price and it accommodated all of us.
Each day the boat was able to pick us up at our condo, and we had John and the boat all to ourselves. It was such a special experience to dive with the boys and watch them learn so much from John. I felt safe and confident with John in his ability and safety measures. He checked in with the boys regularly while also challenging them in their diving and improvng their skills.
John even brought balloons and helped my son with his science experiement under water! It was spectacular. I cant say enough about him and how much I like him as a person. He is mindful of the enironment and his clients and I can't wait to get back in July for the whale sharks!

I took a whale shark tour in late August 2022 and had a fantastic time. There was a group of 3, a group of 2 and 5 solo travelers. We were all picked up at our hotels and then driven the the pier where we quickly hopped on our small boat and headed out. The crew manages our expectations by sharing recent whale shark volumes and explaining that we might only have 1 swim or as many as 3. We were fortunate to get 3! Our guide in the water, Matteo, made sure everyone (humans and whale sharks) were safe. He ensured we had a good viewing, offered tips and also took amazing photos and video. After, we went to nearby Isla Mujeres for a really nice lunch in a beautiful setting and then back to the dock and drive back. It was a wonderful experience and I highly recommend this experienced, knowledgeable company which I found via recommendations in the Scuba community.

Excellent tour with awesome and friendly guides! Each person gets to do 2-4 passes with the whalesharks depending on conditions and each pass lasts about 5-10 minutes. Plenty of time to see the sharks up close and get videos!
Things to know before hand:
You have to take a 30 minute ferry from Cozumel to the mainland then take a 40-60 minute bus to Cancun then take a 1 hour 20 min boat ride to get to the whalesharks. This is an extremely long time to travel and the boat ride can be extremely rough depending on the conditions. If you're prone to seasickness or aren't in fair health, the boat ride might be too much for you. We sat in the front of the boat to allow more elderly passengers sit more comfortably in the back, where there is less bouncing, and we were pretty beat up the next day. Our backs and butts were pretty sore the next day from bouncing on the waves for 3 hours, some of the larger waves can actually lift you in the air a couple inches from your seat. Overall we thought it was worth the experience! You can only swim with whalesharks in a few places around the world and the rest period afterwards at Isla Mujeres where we got to relax in a shallow beach with some beer and ceviche was beautiful. We would highly recommend this company if you're looking to do a whaleshark tour from Cozumel!

This was an experience of a lifetime!
We had an excellent Whale Shark tour with Blue H2o. There were only ten guests on our boat and only two went in the water at a time with our guide, Miguel, to swim with the sharks. We did a previous whale shark dive in Australia, and everyone on the boat jumped in the water with the fish at once. It was a chaos of fins and bubbles! With Blue H2o we were able to swim peacefully with the fish. Blue H2o was very conscientious about keeping us and the whale sharks safe. We were well instructed about how to swim with the sharks and what toxic sunscreens and perfumes not to wear during the dives - for the fishes' sake. Miguel also got FANTASTIC video of everyone during their dives so we could concentrate on the fish. They were well organized and made the whole experience fantastic.

Overall this was a great experience. Our tour guide met us at the Cozumel ferry terminal according to the instructions. Our travel was smooth to the the Cancun marina. The boat was ready to depart within minutes of our arrival. We were lucky to have a smooth sea. When we arrived at the Whale Shark viewing area there were probably 20 other boats there for the same reason. Our captain maneuvered the boat into very good positions for us to swim with the whale sharks.
After our time with the sharks we were provided sandwiches while we started our boat ride back. We stopped at Isla Mujeres where the crew provided an additional snack while we cooled off in the water.
Rather than the 5pm ferry we were required to take the 6pm ferry, but that was all of the activities we had planned for the day.
The reason I did not go with a 5 star review is because the tipping policy if very unclear. The tour guide expected a tip, the bus driver expected a tip and the boat operators expected a tip. We already paid a pretty good sum for this adventure so I felt three different groups asking for additional tips was unreasonable.

We did the Whale Shark Swim with the Blue H2O team of John, Mateo, and Gerardo, and I cannot recommend this tour enough! I looked through many company reviews before deciding on Blue H2O, and I’m so glad I did. The crew was easy to communicate with on logistics, and everything (transportation, boat, etc) was on time and how they said it would be. The dive experience itself was incredible! Each pair got to do 3 swims with the whale sharks, and the crew made sure to place the boat in prime position so you were face to fin with a whale shark as soon as you jumped in the water.
After the whale shark swims, we went to Isla Mujeres for a leisurely swim and lunch, and then it was back to Playa Del Carmen to ferry back to Cozumel. We even got a surprise dolphin show on the boat ride back to the dock!
John, Mateo, and Gerardo were wonderful guides for the day - kind, knowledgeable, fun, always happy to accommodate or help, and eager to capture great photos (you do have the option to purchase the photos afterwards, if you’d like).
If you’re going to do this once in a lifetime experience (which you absolutely should) - this is the company and team to do it with! Don’t get tricked into going through a tour broker that doesn’t care if you have a good experience or not - pick Blue H2O, as they run their own tours and are on the boats with you ensuring you have an incredible time.

My boyfriend and I traveled to Cozumel for the first time, and he was very adamant about doing a whale shark snorkel. I was very apprehensive because of the amount of travel we would have to put into this excursion. However, I am SO GRATEFUL we did this because not only was it the best experience of our trip but truly something we will remember for the rest of our lives. John, Mateo, and the captain went absolutely above and beyond to give us an incredible experience. John met us on the ferry in Cozumel and stayed with us the entire travel time getting to the boat, which eased every nerve of mine. The snorkel itself was incredible and we were able to see and swim with a TON of large whale sharks. Mateo captures amazing footage for an affordable price. I unfortunately fed the fish twice while out on the boat🥴 But John, Mateo, and the captain treated me like family. They got me water, poured water over my head, and even cut me up some melon to help soothe my stomach. I felt better and was able to continue the snorkels just fine! Everyone was friendly, attentive, and did everything in their power to ensure we had an amazing time. If you are on the fence about this, you MUST DO IT! This is a once in a lifetime opportunity with a Grade A company!

I've been coming to the Yucatan for over 10 years (every summer) and have only done the whale shark excursion once before in 2013. A very good friend suggested we book with H2O for this time.
I could not have been happier with the communication, professionalism, and quality of the entire tour.
My boyfriend and I were already staying in Isla Mujeres, so John at H2O was our point of contact. He coordinated with the captain to pick us up at the dock in Isla and then we crossed over to Cancun to pick up the rest of the tour group! The boat was very nice and clean and the guys were very friendly and professional.
Once in Cancun, we met John and he was extremely knowledgeable about the whale sharks and answered all of our questions about their migration etc. There were 10 people total on our boat and we all had a comfortable place to sit with plenty of shade, water, and cokes to drink!
The boat ride out to the whale sharks was very nice and we even saw some dolphins and turtles! Once there, they had an organized system for maximizing our time there. We all jumped into the ocean with the gentle giants in pairs with a guide. It was the most incredible experience and I highly recommend you do it at least once in your life! Definitely bring a camera because you will want to show your friends and family! Each pair was able to do 3 separate jumps into the water with the whale sharks!
Afterwards, we headed to Isla Mujeres beach called Playa Norte where the guys whipped up a fantastic batch of ceviche and served us beer while we played in the picturesque blue water!
At the end of the trip, you had the option of buying pics/video the guys took of you and your loved ones while snorkeling with the whale sharks in case you didn't have your own camera or for some crazy reason your go pro stopped working just as you hit the water! True Story...it happens!
You will be glad the guys had theirs and videotaped it for you!

Hi, we will be there the first 5 days of June and was wondering what’s the chances of seeing the whale sharks then on average you think ? and are there typically a few then or or many on average by then you think ?
Thanks
Jenny
Written January 30, 2020
Hello Jenny. Because these are wild animals we cannot say how many whale sharks there will be. Usually June is early season so the numbers will not be the same as what is seen in July August. Blue H2o Cozumel guarantees it's tours.
Written January 30, 2020
Hello...do you still offer the lion fishing tour? If so, where can I find pricing information? Thank you!
Written April 12, 2019
Hello. The lion fish hunting is limited now. There are not a lot of lion fish seen at recreational depths compared to years ago. We do allow divers to bring approved equipment on dives if they do encounter lion fish.
Written April 14, 2019
Hi! We will be and Cozumel February 21. How far in advance do we need to book a private four hour four person snorkel tour? Is it better to do it before we arrive or can we do it when we are there? Thanks!
Written February 12, 2019
It is best to book in advance because feb to april is very busy and the day you want may be reserved already with us.

My daughter and I will be in cozumel this August and would like to do the whale shark tour. How much is the ferry from cozumel per person in USD? Also do you pick us up from our hotel in cozumel or do we have to meet you at the ferry? Where is the ferry? Thank you!
Written July 12, 2018
$26.00 US per person. You meet at the ferry dock near the cruise port.

We are coming to cozumel on Tuesday June 23, 2018. We are interested in the whale share excursion. Do you pickup at the cruise port? How long from the port does it take to reach the excursion site? What is the price for two people?
Written June 8, 2018
Hello. It is very hard to do this excursion while on a cruise. The departure time from Cozumel is 545am and returning at 3 or 4 pm daily.
Written June 9, 2018
We'll be in Cozumel 9/23 to 9/30. Are there any whale shark tours available then?
Written September 4, 2017
Hello - I have a group that wants to do the whale shark trip in August but can you tell us how much time we get to spend in the water with the sharks? Also, do we have to wear a life jacket that keeps you at the surface or will we be allowed to wear the vests that allow us to dive beneath the water? Thank you.
Written March 31, 2017
Hola. We normally spend about 2 1/2 hours with the whale sharks so plenty of time to swim with them. A life jacket is mandatory while swimming with the whale sharks however a wetsuit (shorty) can be used instead of life jacket.
Written April 1, 2017
Do you run all year round?
We are coming out on our honeymoon September 17th but seen a somewhere it's open until September 15th.
Written February 12, 2017
Hello. We run whale shark tours from May 15- Sept 17 weather permitting. The tours are also in this time frame because of Federal Permits are issued for that period only.
