About
Welcome to Tres Pelicanos Dive Center, the place where scuba divers come to dive their tank and/or computer profile. Our goal is to have each diver achieve the longest bottom time possible-SAFELY. We do not do DECO dives. We also take a longer surface interval in-between dives. We offer plenty of water to keep hydrated and snacks of sweet bread and fruit. Our boat is fast and comfortable. We have a fresh water shower on board to wash the salt off your face and for a camera rinse. Our crew sets up your gear and also takes it back to the shop where it is rinsed and brought back to the boat the next day for your dives. Our dive masters have years of experience diving the reefs of Cozumel. We understand that you work hard for your vacation dollars and want your experience with Tres Pelicanos to be a memorable one. We know that we cannot improve on the wonderful underwater world of Cozumel so we work hard at giving you the best customer service possible. We want the time when you first step on the boat until you enter the water and then back to the dock to be the most relaxing and enjoyable time of your vacation. So come on in and become a member of our Pelican family. Thanks Steve

We dove with Tres Pelicanos for 3 days in July 21 as things were opening back up. I had been in contact with Jeanie for about 2 years prior to our trip. During that time she was so helpful in getting me quotes for and figuring out the different housing packages. Jeanie is a rockstar logistics wiz and made sure our trip was taken care of from start to finish. She even helped us plan a whale shark tour (which was canceled because of weather) but the actual tour company was so unresponsive. In fact, I panic emailed Jeanie at 10pm after our whale shark tour was suddenly canceled to see if they could schedule us a dive the next day and within 15 minutes she had us set to be on the boat for the at 7 the next morning! If it weren’t for her professionalism the end of our trip would have been ruined. Tres Pelicanos was professional and the crew is stellar. The Skinny Shark and Loan Shark fast boats are indeed fast and catch up to all the boats that leave before them. It’s perfect for diving with up to 6 people. 7 starts to feel a little cramped but they did a great job of making sure the passengers were evenly spread out. The boats also have a canopy so you don’t burn to a crisp in the Caribbean sun. In terms of boat crew: Servando is a pro with decades of experience in cozumel. He is so kind, professional and thoughtful of your dive experience etc. Pony ran the front desk efficiently and made sure we left on time and always picked us up right on the dot. Tibu was our captain the entire time and he was funny, knowledgable, and kept us really safe while getting in and out. During a surface interval we were talking and we spotted eagle rays so he handed me my mask and told me to jump in! we just missed them so he turned the boat around to chase them down. Because of him and Servando, we got the closest we’ve ever been to eagle rays. It was such a memorable experience. I also would’ve lost my mask if it wasn’t for Tibu pointing out a loose mask strap before descending! Eduardo was also a fantastic dive instructor and very capable and friendly. Tres Pelicanos is a world class dive operation that I would highly recommend to beginners and advanced divers alike.

Gracias Faith for your very kind words telling everyone about your experience diving with Tres Pelicanos. You hit on all the high notes because it is my staff along with Jeanie that make our operation a success. It all comes down to the people, Jeanie, Pony Tiburon, Eduardo and Servando. They work together to give all of our guests their best. I will pass on your review to them. Gracias and hasta luego. Steve

We are repeat divers with Tres Pelicanos, a strong indicator of how much we think of 3P and their dive operation. Despite the challenges of COVID, hurricanes, and personnel turnover, Tres Pelicanos has adjusted and is firing on all cylinders. The staff is excellent, the boats are as fast as ever, and the shop is well organized. It’s always so nice to return to Cozumel and dive with 3P; we feel like family and treasure the friendships we’ve made along the way. The diving is superb and you can stay down 70 minutes or until you are low on air, whichever comes first. We highly recommend Tres Pelicanos, a very professional and welcoming dive operation.

WOW thank you so much for those kind words. As you remember it was a little difficult for your trip with not only the Covid, but one or two hurricanes. We are so happy that you were able to get your diving in and see our wonderful underwater world. Always happy when members of our pelican family get to return for a visit. Hope to see you again soon. Muchas gracias and Hasta luego, Steve

I'm a last minute diver. When I get a break from work, I can email Jeanie with my plan to be there with two day's notice. I give my information on my desired number of dives, tank sizes, weights, and gas. With little formality, I send the deposit and complete the usual safety questionnaire, sign, and email. Then I just show up dive. Easy Peezie! Yes, Jeanie works with most of the reputable hotels, inns, and B&Bs in Cozumel, so lodging and diving can be a package deal, but you can a la cart if you need.

The diving is also casual with little formalities. They accommodate my needs and diving style with no drama. Since I travel alone mostly, I just join the group and we all look out for each other during the diving. The captains and dive masters know their stuff, know the marine park like their backyard and are eager to show you the best sites and point out where the cool critters are.

The fees are a bargain for the service I get and Jeanie will typically get me a better lodging rate than I can do for myself. Payment is handled very professionally with no hidden fees. Thank you Jeanie for the great service and a shout out to Steve B (chief cook and bottle washer) who joined our diving over the week of April 19th

Gracias Terry. That was a terrific review of your trip diving with Tres Pelicanos. All of us here enjoyed having you on board. We appreciate your telling all of the TA audience about Jeanie and how easy it was for you to make an on the "spur of the momenmt" trip. She is so efficient her email responses almost beat the questions asked. She and Big Mike have been traveling in their RV so lately some email replies have been an hour or so late. Leave it to be said, she is one of our main reasons for a successful dive operation. Terry thank you again for taking the time to review us, The only better type of review is --returning to visit your Pelican family. Muchas gracias and Hasta luego, Steve

Tres Pelicanos provided my wife and me with a thoroughly enjoyable five afternoons of diving on our first trip to Cozumel. From emailing a few months before to working through details on arrival we had good communication the entire time. Every afternoon like clockwork we were picked up at the Secrets dock (stayed at Residencias Reef next door) with equipment set up and ready to go on the boat. Quick trip to the dive site with a short briefing and in we would go. Jorge was great at finding aquatic life. Baby flounders, turtles (honest, at least 6 ft long loggerhead napping under a reef overhang!), stonefish, splendid toadfish, lobster and more. Group size ranged from 5 on one day to just the two of us with Jorge on our last day with usually 3-4 on the other days. Bottom time was usually 60 minutes or when you hit 750 to come up for the safety stop. I used 100 cf tanks ‘cause I’m an air hog ($5 per tank extra/day) and I still barely managed the 60 minutes. My wife always had more than 1000 left in her reg sized tank. All in all, very happy with Tres Pelicanos.

jamart59 thank you so much for posting your review of Tres Pelicanos Dive Center in Cozumel. We are so glad that your first excursion to Cozumel was a memorable one. Now that you have had a taste of our underwater critters we hope that you might be able to return again during the Eagle Ray season. They start to show up in late November and leave in April. Even without the Eagles, our turtles, eels and nurse sharks are amazing. Jorge is terrific at finding and showing the smaller things. You now belong to our family of Pelican divers so we hope that you will be able to return again soon. Muchas gracias and hasta luego. Steve

We had 7 divers in our group, from referral newbies to highly experienced Master Divers. Everyone had a great experience in one of the world’s great dive destinations. The advanced divers went out on a separate boat to dive Punta Sur (the remarkable Devil’s Throat) while the others dived shallower boat dives or OW shore dives. But, we all dived 6 sites together with enough variety for everyone. Servando was great with our most anxious new diver, and Jose spent the time (more than 4 dives) to get the other new divers to a certified level, ready to dive without instruction. Jorge and boat captain Tiburon were a pleasure to dive with every day. Boats are fast and covered and not over-crowded. Other touches (site choices, fresh fruit and chocolate cake, water, lunch drops) make us come back to 3P each year. (3P, Please board more 1- and 2-pound weights for trim pockets.)

Rick it was fun having such a diverse group diving with us. Knowing you had newbie divers we enlisted Servando to work with them. Servando is called Maestro (Teacher) and now you can see why. For the others, Jose took over and for the most experienced we have George. All three represent Tres Pelicanos very nicely. I saw your message about more two pound weights. The problem is we need to have the clients return the ones that get left in the trim pockets and go back home with them. We will endeavor to have more for you on your next trip. Steve

Diving made relaxing with TP. Communication was quick, boat was fast, crew was awesome. This is a safety conscious operation. Strangers in the boat the first day, friends by the second dive. This was an easy feeling trip after a year of Covid stress. Steve was on the boat and we liked getting to know him better. He made our last minute changes happen which made all of us dive safer and feel better in the water. Thanks for a good week back in the water.

We had heard good things about this shop, but one guide to nine divers is too large of a group. We didn't get the dive briefing until we were all suited up and ready to back roll, so it was a brief briefing. Our guide never checked on anyone during the dive and never even looked over his shoulder to do a head count for the entirety of the dives. Everyone just surfaced without any signals to the guide, and he didn't seem to notice or care, and he was too far ahead of us to let him know what we were doing.

We felt he was more of a leader than a guide. In other words, he was there to steer the group for the dive but not actually take time to find things and point them out. It was a bit disappointing, but the guide and captain were friendly topside, and they provided bottled water and cake at the surface interval.

I would like to see them switch from single-use plastic bottles to providing clean drinking water from a jug. We pay a sanitation tax at the hotels in Mexico, but I don't know what the heck it's for, but I still see a lot of trash and pollution in Cozumel, and you still can't put toilet paper in the toilets.

Sorry to hear about your disappointment with our dive operation. Certainly we should have done a better job in all the areas that you pointed out. May I ask if this was your first time diving in Cozumel? The reason that I ask that is because diving in Cozumel can be different than perhaps what you are used to. Let me explain. It is standard to have 9 or even 10 divers on our boats. We have permits for three different boats and each has a 10 passenger load permit. With that being said, there are many dive operations that have boats that only have a six person capacity. Our dive masters are guides. They do point out creatures and marine life when they see it. Did you ask specifically for them to find anything like a sea horse or eel? It is our basic procedure to do a dive briefing once people are geared up. The engine noise on the way to the dive site prevents speaking to the group. Once divers are all equipped, then everyone has the attention of the DM. Our guides may not do a head count every so often, but they are well aware of where their divers are. With the drift diving currents here it is not uncommon for a diver to get well ahead of the group. The DM stays with the group. Perhaps you were not aware of the number of other dive boats on the surface. It is common procedure for a dive boat to stop and ask who you are diving with if you surface not with your group. We also encourage divers to spread out and explore and keep the group in sight. Some divers like to stay shallower where the light is better, while others may prefer to explore a bit deeper. I feel that one of the reason that we have had success is that because we let divers dive their own profile and not be tethered to the DM at all times. Lastly we moved to the plastic bottles during the covid event. You cannot purchase paper cups at an affordable cost in Cozumel. Even with the water coolers we had to use plastic cups. I apologize that we did not meet your expectations. I only hope that you were able to enjoy the Cozumel foods, culture and atmosphere.

Just finished a fantastic week diving with Tres Pelicanos. From the first email inquiry to the last adios the entire experience was awesome. The boats are clean, comfortable, and in excellent condition. The surface interval snacks, individual wrapped, were delicious and plentiful. Each morning the crew would discuss where we would like to dive for the day and if the customers had any request, deep, shallow, wall, swim throughs, etc. With that information the crew picked terrific dive sites all week, tailored to the customers wishes. The entire crew was amazing our boat captain for the week, Francisco, is a friendly guy, a pleasure to be around, a great DJ during the surface intervals, works his tail off, tends to your every need and knows exactly where all his divers are underwater, even if the groups get separated. The divemaster Jose knows every inch of the reefs and the usual hangouts for whatever you are looking for, eagerly pointing interesting finds. He kept an eye on us without being intrusive. We enjoy being able to dive our air and not being told to go to the surface at 60 mins like some operations do. We had a couple self-induced equipment issues with our personal equipment, the owner sprung into action and remedied our issues immediately. These guys really want you to have a great experience and will do everything in their power to make it happen, just be honest and tell them what you want and your comfort level / experience with diving. I would rate them 6+ stars if I could, unfortunately, I can only give them the highest rating of 5 stars. We are looking forward to our return.

Muchas gracias for that wonderful review of your trip diving with Tres Pelicanos. All of us here are so very happy to see our old Pelican friends able to return as we emerge from the Covid era. It was a lot of fun to have you both back again and now we already are looking forward to your next visit. Thanks again for your kind words and sharing your memories. Hasta Luego, Steve

During uncertain times of Covid-19, we found a serene getaway diving turquoise seas, home to Tres Pelicanos Dive Center.

Authentic Cozumel dive experience (with all the extra precautions due to Covid), superb sea life - eagle rays and impressive bright corals, reborn during this time of restoration for the reef.

Cozumel hospital is a three-minute walk from Tres Pelicanos where return travel Covid tests are given daily ($40 and 15 minutes ) results conveyed to meet US travel retirements. Bonus tip — English speaking health care professionals

Superb crew on boats, bottled water, and expert dive guides, sought after by novices and experts:

Gracias RossReef for those very kind words. Yes you are correct--Cozumel has been a safe haven from the Covid pandemic. They really have done a very good job of keeping the safe practices in place. Vaccinations are ongoing now with age group 50 and above. The reefs are healthy, the currents have been rather slack, and the visibility has been excellent. With Mexico as just about the only destination that travelers could take--the dive industry has kept the Island going. We truly appreciate our pelicans like RossReef coming down to support our business and of course the local economy. Gracias. I would like to make one correction--the hospital close to our shop charges $49 for the Covid test required by the airlines. Results are available within two hours. Muchas Gracias again CC. Hasta Luego and a real pleasure to have you join our family of Pelican divers. Hasta luego, Steve

Just returned from a wonderful week of diving with Tres Pelicanos. It was an easy experience from booking with Jeanie to the dive shop with Pony to diving with Jose, George, & Chan Fran. The shop does well with all types of divers, but really shines with experienced divers. Diving your tank is their specialty and it's really a joy to dive with them. The staff is accommodating and will be just as attentive as you want them to be. The boat is fast and comfy. They "get it." Count me as one of their "pelican family."
